Not much else going on after the let-down. That is to say, the news of our two latest additions to the team. Who knows, they may be a welcomed surprise, but I'm not going to hold my breath until I see it first-hand. I'm hoping that they make such an impact that one of these guys becomes my new favorite player. Each of us has a favorite player or two on this team and more than anything, we want the Kansas City Chiefs to succeed. Moreso than that, we want a win and we want it badly. A win this weekend against the New York Giants would be miraculous, but again, I won't hold my breath. It would take a drastic turnaround from last week and God's hand to make that happen. Am I hopeful? Absolutely, but I am also a realist. But I can tell you this, I will be praying for the big "W."

Regardless of the outcome this weekend, or the results of games 1 through 3, Cassel has become one of my favorite players. It's just something about his work ethic and leadership skills that, if all else fails, I want him to succeed. I think we all have those types of players that if we can't get the win, we at least want our favorite(s) to succeed and show he, or they, deserve to sport the red & gold. I love everyone who proudly dons the Chiefs uniforms, but Matt Cassel is my favorite. Interested to know who your favorite is and the reasoning behind it.

Fearless Leader?

The reference of the caption is made regarding Scott Pioli. A lot of opinions have been flying around about the man in charge. Pioli is a smart man, and I believe most of us will agree with that statement. His moves from the draft to free agency to present can all be questioned. As we all know, they have been and continue to be by the likes of Jason Whitlock, other pundits, and quite a few of us right here on AP. His decisions may not be luminous right now, but it is the opinion of this author that they will eventually shine bright. I am not going to go as far as saying that I condone his every move and hang in the balance of his every word, but I will say that I will not give up hope. And I also will go on record to say that I believe and if pushed to the edge of the proverbial cliff, will jump...

to take that leap of faith that he will get this team squared away. I truly believe he is doing whatever is necessary to bring a winning mentality back to Kansas City, the Chiefs, and the beloved Chiefs' fanbase. Did he do right by the offensive line? No, but maybe he and Haley thought they saw something on tape that they could improve upon. Sometimes, as we all know, things just don't go according to plan. Did he improve the defensive line? I will reserve judgment on this question. The jury is still out and only being three games in, I don't think it is fair to stake a claim one way or the other. The talent across the defensive line has potential, and hopefully in time, will prove to be good moves. I don't agree with all of his draft picks, but they were done for a reason. His judgment of talent is far superior to mine, that much I admit. He is making moves and shaking trees to uncover any shred of talent that he can find. That is to say, any upgrade that will potentially improve this team, and this is being done with week four fast approaching. That, to me anyways, shows that he is not satisfied and is willing to continue to make upgrades where he believes may assist this team to chalk up a big W. The man puts in work, and hopefully it will pay off very soon. I, for one, can only close my eyes and dream of the day that this picture is printed on the front page of the Kansas City Star.

Until then, I can only remain hopeful and keep believing.

No boys and girls, this is not about the Chiefs. This post is in regards to the AP site. I'm a little confused and needed some advice. It seems like most of you here hop on this site to help you get through your workday. Don't worry, I'll keep it our little secret. And yeah, I do the same thing. However, as soon as I get home, I try to fire up the computer and hop right back on to check what I'd missed in the last hour. It usually remains up for the duration of the night and is only shut down when the computer goes to bed itself. I love this site and am addicted like a crack baby. Does AP really stand for Addictive Pride? I wonder because the majority of folks who come to this site gradually acquire an addictive behavior. One that is only sated when posting or getting the latest feeds or updates. At any rate, my question pertains to the best times to post. I ask because for me, I can only post late at night. I am the sole provider in my family, wife and two children. I work ridiculous hours and when I get home, I have a few hours to play with the kids before they're in bed and then another couple hours to spend catching up on AP. Time with the wife? What, are you kidding me? She gets to sleep with me, what more could she want? Seriously though, when I post, it is generally after 10pm PST, so all (or most) of you are already in bed. Then, it seems the next morning, the pages are full of new posts and mine gets pushed out. So fellow members, please shoot me some advice on when to get the best feedback for my posts. I appreciate it. And if you get the time, please take a look at my latest post. Thanks guys and gals...

Zero Acquisitions

News is slow and acquisitions were nil for the week of September 21st. There was news that the Chiefs were working out some players this week, but to my knowledge, names were not released. At least I have not seen any names released for said players. I'm curious as to the players and/or the positions that were being looked at this week.

Shall we jump?

As we all know, we are lacking production on the offensive front. Although, from last week's game, it seems that that particular area is starting to improve. Pass protection wasn't the greatest, but definitely better from the previous week. We also opened up some holes for LJ to be able to run through instead of getting marred in the backfield. Although, they did take a step backwards when it came to the penalty tally. Another area that needs an upgrade is the LB corps, those who can excel in pass coverage as well as attacking the ball. From what I saw, LB pass coverage was definitely lacking in both games; the Ravens and the Raiders. Depth at S couldn't hurt either, and neither would solidifying the KR/PR position. I do not think Wade is the solution. I agree that he made an immediate impact at the receiver position, but he did not show much talent at returning. Most of his returns were fair catches or a simple 5-10 yard pickup. I know it's only one game and it's not fair to judge, but he did not show me much. I'm hoping if Haley looks at him as the solution, he vastly improves. That said, I am overly excited that we did get Bobby Wade. Hey Minnesota, thanks for the talent by the way, or by the Wade, however you see it. This guy, on less than a week to game prep, exploded onto the scene. He seems to be a quick learner and picked up things quite nicely. Cassel relied on him like Thiggy did Gonzo last year. If this continues, it will open up the deep threat, give Bowe some more looks, and provide some wiggle room for LJ to expand upon. Back to my initial thought process though. Any news on the folks getting workouts in KC? The Jon Runyan front? Or how about Langston Walker or Mark Tauscher? Are we still even looking at these guys or have we wrote them off? Again, like they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. And I also know that there isn't much talent available in the cess pool.

And what does this mean to us, the fans? I'm curious here, so please help me solve my own riddle. Are we still looking for quality talent to add depth and compettition? Is anybody out there even worth grabbing? Or has Todd Haley seen something that tells him otherwise? What I mean is, has Haley finally convinced himself that the talent we have has progressed enough to make him think they are good enough to be his pawns that puts other teams in checkmate? My personal opinion is of the latter. I think that our boys are finally showing Haley something that he can hang his hopes on and a team that gives him an opportunity to shine in his rookie year at head coach. What say you???

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I've been giving it a lot of thought lately, and like a lot of you, I was unbelievably upset after the game on Sunday. I just don't understand how we could let victory escape our grasp like that. We were right there, people. I was so bummed that I moped around for hours after the game. If it wasn't for my children, I probably would have locked myself in a room and dwelled on the loss for the remainder of the night. Yes, I'm that pathetic. However, as with everything else in the world, you have to let go of the bad and focus on the good. To our dismay, our beloved Chiefs, like our children, must learn to take their lumps. They must fall off their bikes and get right back on, and I see them doing just that. They are learning to ride and they are getting back in the saddle. It is only a matter of time before they get it right. I have all the faith in the world that it will come together before season's end. Maybe I'm el numero uno homer, but I believe. And speaking of believing, the Chiefsmas Spirit has paid me another visit. Please enjoy my latest creation after the jump, sung to the tune of Jingle Bells...

Cassel passes will sling

On a fake handoff they’ll bite

Chiefs will strike a mighty blow

Flying home winners Sunday night

Oh, 1 and 2, 1 and 2

1 win is on the way

What fun it is to hum

And sing the Chiefsmas song today

Oh, 1 and 2, 1 and 2

Winning’s on the way

Keep your hands and feet inside this ride

Cuz the Chiefs will come to play

This stadium is one of the coolest in the league when the Chiefs get things going. The stadium, which is getting a facelift, is a sea of red on game day. There isn’t a bad seat in the house and they almost hover over the field.

It is one of the few charming stadiums left in the league. The facelift is necessary, but this is a very simple place that creates energy.

Okay ladies and gentlemen, take two. I tried to post this up last week but it ended up getting swallowed by all of the gameday posts, and for good reason. We faced many a trial and tribulation last week. There were some good points and some bad points to take away from it all. Since then, we've picked up Bobby Wade and dumped Turk McBride. Are we better with that move? Only time will tell, but it excites me that management refuses to sit on the roster. I get giddy just thinking about who they might pick up next (hopefully some offensive linemen). I think the Kansas City Chiefs proved they can compete by hanging with the Ravens. Too many little mistakes cost us that game, but I believe we are going to be a damn good team by the end of the season, starting this week. So without further ado, I wanted to touch up my old post so that it can be re-posted this week. So last week while I was reading the whole Chiefsmas piece, a thought occurred to me. Since it is Chiefsmas, why not sing some carols? I've created my own rendition of Silent Night after the jump. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Final Judgment

It's curtain call people. The final curtain is about to fall on quite a few players. Thursday's game against St. Louis marks the final game of the preseason. Yes, that means we are going to lose five folks as early as tomorrow. We can all speculate, but only the brain trust knows which heads will actually roll.

via img527.imageshack.us

Sadly, four days after, another 22 will be severed. The final cut on September 5th will reduce that number to 53, or as Pioli puts it, "the right 53." The problem is, that there is actually some talent on this team that will be forced to pack it up. We all have our personal favs that we would love to see make the team, but there are only so many slots available. And as much as preseason bores me, it is after all, football for piss sakes. Whether we admit it or not, preseason is not about the number of ticks in the win column. The preseason is about evaluation of talent. No, nobody likes to lose, and I'm sure nobody on this team wanted to lose any of our first three games, but lesser players must be evaluated. While I'm on the subject of losing, who the hell was the asshole that coined the phrase, "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game?" I'm sure that cat never won a game in his damn life. At any rate, the preseason is for the coach, and other evaluators of talent, to see who the men are amongst the boys. We don't like seeing our Kansas City Chiefs be in a game, only to falter when the backups take the stage. In my opinion though, this last game is a critical piece of the puzzle. This game will be the last chance for some of these men. Hell, it may be their last chance to play football in the NFL, period. IMO, they can keep their heads held high. For one, they got to wear the red and gold for a period of time. That, to me, is something I could be proud of and a story to pass on to my children. Even greater than that, Todd Haley's last chance to decide on who will be our first unit, the ones that will lead us in battle. On the flip side though, we've had our own scouts scavenging the NFL looking for potential talent as well. In the end, we may be fortunate enough to pick up some offensive linemen, or other potential talent, in the NFL's wonderful garbage pile of retreads.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

Do you think we'll find talent in the cess pool and if so, at what position?

3%

Hell no, there will be nobody worth picking up

1 votes

0%

No, we'll piss away more draft picks on lesser talent

0 votes

Yes, at different positions for depth and competition

13 votes

WTF Moments

Let me start off by sayng that I am on the West Coast and just finished watching a recorded version of the game. Also, I am 100% sure that all of you know what the acronym in the title of this post spells out. Well, tonight folks, I had plenty of these moments. I've done a lot of reading, and posting, on all of the fanposts and headlines on the main screen. This game was disheartening for me for a number of reasons. I can honestly say that we did have our moments, and there were plenty of them, but that's not what this post is about. That said, I won't go running around screaming that our beloved Kansas City Chiefs are doomed for the year either. I'm just a litlte baffled at some of the stupidity that transpired tonight. After the jump, I'll share my WTF Moments and eagerly await feedback from my fellow AP Tribesmen.

- Ryan Succop missing from 28 yards. WTF? That is supposed to be a chip shot, is it not? Yes folks, I about filled my shorts because, just before the kick, I was thinking that Das Boot would be money from that range.

- The atrocious play of the offensive line. WTF? None of the tampon strings were any good. The first string showed signs of life, but is still a work in progress. The biggest problem I see with this is, even if we upgrade talent from waiver fodder, the answer will not be that simple. It will still take time for said starters to play a few games together before they can gel and become a cohesive unit. If that is the case, my worst fear may come to fruition. And that is, that we will be in deep kuso by the time our bye week hits.

- Copper and Darling were our starting WRs yet again. WTF? Has the coaching staff not seen the play of these rummies in the first two preseason games? Terrance Dropper doesn't even deserve to don a Chiefs uniform, let alone run with the 1st team. Good thing Darling got injured, because I'm not so sure I could have taken watching him an entire half.

- Thigpen's throw to the TE. WTF? He had all day back there and his man was wide open. All he had to do was toss a relaxed pass and he overthrew it by a mile. It wasn't even close, folks. That is the type of pass that should be a gimme.

- Larry Johnson's slow starts. WTF? Yeah, some of you may respond with a WTF right back at me, but bear with me. I know his stats showed that he ran well, but he just didn't look like he was going full throttle. I know the OL was shaky, but there were several plays where he looked like he was walking to the line of scrimmage after being handed the rock. I expect more from a "changed" man who is supposed to be a poster child for the new offense. I dig Larry and think he's the goods, but he needs to show me more.

- Amani Toomer's wheelchair not getting back to the line in a hurry-up offense. WTF? If you need a new wheelchair, I'm sure Haley will budget for that. I know the man's got skills, but if there's no giddy-up in his gallop, then get the duck outta fodge. We want folks who are going to go full-bore at all times. Take a couple tokes off the oxygen tank and get your ass back in there.

- Tyson Jackson's lack of awareness. WTF? He turned around for some unknown reason, turned back around, got set, and stayed set even after the ball was in play. Pull your head out son, you're earning a shitpot of money as the #3 overall draft pick. Let's try playing like we deserve that contract, huh?

- Coverage. WTF? Was it just me or did they seem to have an open receiver on every play? It didn't matter what type of defense Pendergast called, they had at least one man open. In most instances, I saw 2 or 3 running around with no red jersey within five to ten feet.

- 3rd Down Conversions. WTF? This was huge in this game. No matter what we ran at them on 3rd down, we could not convert to save our asses. It's like somebody from our side was faxing our plays to Mora before we ran them. Now, I can blame this all on Thiggy, because his performance was horseshit Wang, but he cannot shoulder the entire blame. I put a lot on him, but with no blocking, no QB would be able to run a successful offense.

- 3rd Down Conversions. WTF? No, it's not a repeat. I'm talking getting off the field on defense. This game gave me flashbacks to last year's defense. We hold them tight, push 'em back or give up minimal yards on 1st and 2nd down and then POW, right in the mouth. They just seemed to execute on 3rd down rather proficiently.

I'm sure there are many, many more WTF moments, but I will give you all an opportunity to post some of your own. Yes, this is preseason, but it's getting down to the wire. We need to be more consistent. From last week to this week, we actually failed in key areas. Here are some of those areas of failure.

First Downs: Last Week - 22 vs This Week - 14

3rd Down Conversions: Last Week - 8-15 vs This Week - 1-10

Time of Possession: Last Week - 34:34 vs This Week - 23:21

Points: Last Week - 13 vs This Week - 10

Neither week produced wins, but we need to show continuous improvement if we expect to be ready for Baltimore.
