Richar tore his labrum and is on the 15 day DL but I imagine that he is out for the year and Edwin has been reinstated from the 60 day DL just in time for a huge series against the Cardinals. He is a big bat that we have been lacking. We need him to come up and play like good Edwin and not bad Edwin. How much of an effect on the line up do you guys think that we will have.

Purchase price was not disclosed.

Well another offensive superstar from the most recent generation tests positive for steriods. But I can't figure out if he only started using them in LA as why wasn't he caught in Boston. If he just started in LA then that seems stupid after he drew out his contract situation for months longer than it should have been. And apparently a ton of people on his teams though he was clean.

Barry Bonds doesnt fit says Dusty

So i saw this quote from Dusty after Fay asked him about signing Barry Bonds and I wanted to get the feeling from around here. Excluding all of legal garbage. I am talking about Barry Bonds the player not the purpose and I dont want to sign him this is just hypothetical.

Baker on Barry Bonds, who is trying to catch on with team: "I know he can still hit. I talked to his auntie. She said he's working out couple of time a day."

As for the Reds, Baker doesn't see it. "I don't know where. He might be better suited for an American League team."

The "I dont know where" part really irritates me because of the huge gaping hole at left field. I mean if you dont want him say you arent interested but dont ignore the only real hole on your team. But would you take him at league minimum to play left field for a season or two?

Brandon Phillips wins NL Gold Glove

[Note by Rick House, 11/05/08 5:01 PM EST ] Bumped from diaries. I'm a little surprised Brandon won this popularity contest over ChUtley, but I'll take it. Way to go, Brandon!

Just saw on the bottom line that Brandon Phillips won a gold glove. He committed only 7 errors this year in 140 games which was good for a fielding percent of .990 Congrats to Brandon and lets hope that he wins about 10 more with the Reds in addition to finally returning us to the playoffs.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3684696

Another fun fact to take up space. Houston made the least amount of errors this year and did not have anyone win.

This is the 16 year old outfielder the Reds gave the $2 Million signing bonus to. Everyone thought he was eligible to be signed until July 2nd but the Reds snuck in and got him before. I was wondering if anyone knew what team he was placed on or if he is still in the dominican. I checked the Reds minor league teams and did not see him on any rosters. Just curious to see if anyone else knows anything about him.

Also its great to see The Next Big Thing is here.

Arroyo wants out?

Bronson Arroyo may be in Cincinnati, but his heart is still in Boston.

In fact, he may already be planning his return.

"I still miss playing in that uniform, especially when I turn on the TV and they are 10 games out of first place and there is still a crowd that is maybe more enthusiastic than any crowd in the game," Arroyo told the Lawrence (Mass.) Eagle-Tribune in a story published yesterday.

"You never know what's going to happen in the next couple years."

One thing that will happen is Arroyo hitting the free-agent market after 2008, when the three-year contract he signed with the Red Sox last winter expires. He has yet to sell his home in Boston, and he told the newspaper he'll hold onto it for at least two more years . . . or until he sees what happens in free agency.

Arroyo, 29, went 14-11 with a 3.29 E.R.A. for the Reds and made the National League All-Star team. He said Sox general manager Theo Epstein, who traded him to Cincinnati for outfielder Wily Mo Pena in spring training, called to congratulate him on his All-Star selection.

"He was joking around about how he couldn't go anywhere in the city without somebody yelling at him about trading me," Arroyo said.

Like many Sox fans, Arroyo didn't understand why Boston would pitching for outfield help.

"[Why] would you trade away a young, 200-inning arm?" he said. "Even if Wily Mo hits 40 home runs, I think with what's going on in baseball as far as getting rid of steroids and stuff, it's becoming harder for people to pitch 200 innings and stay healthy year after year. I can see pitchers becoming more of a commodity than they were five or six years ago."

And Arroyo thinks he became more of a commodity after the season he had.

"I was disappointed with the move, but it is probably going to help me out in the long run, because I'm coming over to [Cincinnati] with a little more responsibility, showing I didn't need the Boston Red Sox lineup to stay out there and win ballgames." he said. "In the end, as a free agent, I have become worth more than if I stayed in Boston and pitched out of the pen . . .

"Over time, you earn your respect. I've always been a guy who has been borderline, 'Is he a starter or a bullpen guy?' But now I think I've shown I can be a No. 3 on any team in baseball.

"So now I've gotten over that hump. Now I have to prove that I can be a guy who can do it 2, 3, 5 or 10 years in a row."

http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/projo_20061011_11rsoxjo.31c8562.html

what do you guys think? i get the vibe he wants to be back in Boston and he really is just here because his contract says he has to be. And if he doesnt want to be here do we keep him here only to have him leave for nothing in return?
