I think the question should be asked what does Matt Cassel do that resembles a starting QB in the NFL. From the beginning his accuracy has been questionable. It’s a rare pass that he throws that the reciever does have to contort his body to make the catch. Rarely does he throw a pass that hits the reciever in stride. I actually think he makes our recievers look bad (Except Mark Bradely and Sean Ryan – they don't need help from Matt). I’d bet that if Brodie or any other starting QB threw the same passes Matt has thrown thus far, the drop number would be half what it is.

The  pass thrown last game to a WIDE OPEN Bobby Wade was slightly off the mark....and it didn’t have to be perfect because nobody was even on the same side of the 50 yard line with him. Bobby took all of the blame but I have reviewed that pass again and again and I still see it as Matt’s error (Dan Fout's assessments are always QB freindly).

While it is true the offensive line has had some protection problems along the way , I think Matt has aggrevated the situation by taking forever to make a decisions. It's obvious that defenses have schemed to play according to his tendencies. They create havoc at the line to draw his attention away from looking down field so he doesn't see the open recievers. When he does have time he appears to hold on to the ball longer than necessary. It could be that he lacks field vision or is just confounded by the coverages.

It's seems that he doesn’t drop back and throw with any sense of rythm and timing. Could it be that he needs to mature alot more than we think to be a starting QB – to play with poise and know when to hang in there and throw with anticipation? While playing time does provide the growth opportunity to mature sometime you have to take a step back and watch somebody else get it done to regain your confidence that the job really can be done well within the confines of the existing circumstances.

From my observation Brodie appears to be a mature, albeit frail QB with much better QB tools than Cassel and I think the difference between them is substantial enough to warrent playing him over Cassel. Brodie has shown, to his detrement, the rocks to stands in the pocket and deliver an accurate pass in the face of the pass rush. It’s obvious to me Brodie’s skillset is recognized by the coaching staff otherwise he would not be there.

Matt couldn't move the team in preseason but the cuprit wasn't as visible then because there were plenty of things to blame. Through the process of elimination and adjustment the chiefs have gotten better. I think changing the QB is one more step in the right direction.

  It's time to take the blinders off and stop making excuses for Matt Cassel because he is a great guy and has some potential. He hasn't had enough experience playing good football at any level to fall back on; to have confidence in himself he can play well in the NFL. Most third string nfl QB's have at least played well somewhere in their football career; they have something to hang their hats on in the face of adversity.

We can't let economics dictate how we proceed. The cost of doing business can blinds us to the true sometimes. If Matt Cassel didn’t cost us so much he may have had an opportunity to sit and mature behind Brodie. 

 Just like the Larry Johnson, Sean Ryan, Mike Cox, and Derrick Johnson situations, it may take plugging somebody else (like Brodie) in there at QB to see what Matt can’t do. We won’t be able to fairly evaluate our team if we don’t take that step.

We need some toughness and smart leadership. Brodie, to keep coming back the way he does, shows me plenty of that…I’d play my butt off for a guy like that. I ‘d fight for him too. You don’t see our lineman too eager to help Matt up off the ground. Let Brodie Play and watch our catch/drop ratio go down.

I can't take it anymore. So many comments from people without a clue.....and it seems the more clout you have as a writer the less you know (KB,JW,AT...If you see your initials here I'm talking about YOU Kent Jason & Adam. AT, please kill the Vlog you scare me. Can't you just write your junk down so we don't have to...).

Cease ye.... all of this talking a bunch on no-brain nonsense like you really have a clue. Here's the real deal....KC will be 6 and 10 and within a touchdown in 7 others games. 1.The whole AFC west including the overated chargers will struggle against the NFC west.
2.The AFC west will still be competive and split in head to head matchups with San Diego being the only team to win both games head to head (they'll beat Denver twice) against a division opponent.
3.If you watched the games last year the chiefs did not lack effort:
3a.Our defense always looked out of place and there seemed to be huge spaces unattended as if the players were asked to "play cautious and then rush and make a play". The "Bend but don't break" Cover 2's basic scheme requires a very active and aggressive front 7 to work. Our Safety (Pollard) was coming up to help fill those spots which created holes in our back end. He was chasing his tale trying to do it all because our cautious front seven behavior left many wholes to fill. I blame the coaching, the scheme and injuries on that. We have plenty of talent and solid playmakers on defense....all young and hungry....they just need good coaching. Gunther's defenses have never been great at making halftime ajustments and that's where our season went down the tubes the last 2 years. I am excited about what our defense will be this year. We have enough leadership, youth and TALENT to be the best defense in our division. I predict the first 4 games will mature the defense and give them the confidence (yes we will play Philly and NY tough in the 3rd and 4th games)to keep us in all of the remaining games.
3B. Our Offense is lacking one element and that is a solid 2nd WR. The offensive line just needed better coaching, the size and athletism are there; the direction and technique are not. We have one of the best
O-line coaches in the business now and his assistant is a great commuicator so there will be massive improvement here. If you look around the league and at history, great change has occured for some teams almost overnight on the O-line. Remember the pathetic Chargers (feels so good to say those words) several years back. The year before their impressive turn around the O-line was a big weakness and the reason they were not going to finish higher than last in the division. Something happened that offseason and that big weakness became a huge strength. We can do that too. We Do Have the talent to TURN IT AROUND....but I have to say this - it will scare me to see D.Mac starting anywhere on that line unless some miracle has happened and he forgets how bad he is and has a renaissance of sorts (hope that "r" word isn't too much for the pigskin heads to handle). The QB situation is good. I truly believe we have 3 starters - yes i said it 3 starters on the team. Brodie can play. In fact I would bet that if you could ask Chan Gailey who has the most Quarteback gifts for the position he would say Brodie. I beleive he would be carving up defenses like a Drew "Cool" Breeze or Kenny Stabler by now if he had a decent O-line and a running game. Unfortunately the Chiefs fans may one day find out just how good he is when they have to play against him. We have the RB's to do well on offense...I really believe JC (J.Charles is a monster)and I hope we keep Javarris Williams around....he reminds me of Priest Holmes(funny how it's hard to let go of the ones we love). The recievers - well theres D. Bowe and ....? D. Bowe is solid and under appreciated (yeah that's right, we need to show this baller some love so we don't run him out of town)when you think about it he's done an excellent job with NO HELP. TG doesn't count as much as most fans think when it comes to rolling coverages to contain a recieving threat. They operate in different domains and it's easier to bracket the tightend with LB's when the O-line can't block and the running game is nil leaving our lone WR threat doubled covered on passing downs and well covered all other tmes. Mark Bradley just breaks your heart don't he?. Loads of talent and speed...prototipical for the position...but he hasn't gotten it done. Shows flashes....agh! Come on Mark baby bro I'm on yo side...can we kick it for real? If we don't make a big Free Agent WR aquisition that tells me the coaches have finally gotten Mark B. on track and I'm cool with that. The one area I have plenty of confidence in Haley is in his ability to access and mold WR talent.
4.Our coaching staff is good and I think it will soon be regarded as one of the best in the league. With the talent we have, I see a very good and competitive team in 2009.
On the way out let me throw this at you: Pollard would have been a great LB. Demarrio Williams can really play. Tank and Dorsey are going to establish themselves as a solid DT tandem no matter what we call our defensive scheme they will be on the field and playing well. They are the key to our defensive turnaround. O-line will improve the offense.
