Times Union Video...

I was watching a pre/post game video of various fans on the Times Union website from this Sunday's game and I have to admit there was something that was said on there by a fan that completely took me by surprise. I am not as internet savy as some, so I can't link the site, but I'm sure most of you are already aware of the Ultimate Jaguars page on the internet. Go on there and listen to what some of these adults say after the game, but pay particular attention to the last comment made by a young boy. To sum it up for you he basically said, "Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, oh well!" I was stunned at first, but more because he is absolutely right.

I am through worrying about this team and letting them dictate how my emotional state is from week to week based on win or lose. I have taken football way too seriously lately and to be honest, when a 7 or 8 year old has to put it into perspective for me, it is quite sad. Let's take a step back this week and just enjoy the fact that we have a team here in Jacksonville that we can all enjoy. I would take the Jaguars going 0-16 each week rather than not having a team and we should just enjoy them. In retrospect, it was a rather fun game as we both went back and forth. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. What are you gonna do?

His time has officially come! Excuse me if this aricle is not up to par as I am inebreated, however I have seen what we as Jaguars fans have come to hope of our former first round pick. Quite frankly, I am astonished at the level of performance our WR is displaying this preseason. Jerry who? At this point, I don't think we even need him! Matt Jones is looking like the WR we envisioned him to ultimately be. Just like Vic Ketchman said in his daily column; he wanted to see him go over the middle for the tough catch and he did it!

Matt is catching everything thrown his way. You can make a case for that INT tonight, but the fact remains he is still the most valuable asset this team has as far as a recieving threat concerns. It is time for all us Jag fans to tip our hats and give credit where credit is due. Last season was Matt's third year in the league and he hardly played. Granted, he missed that catch in the postseason game against the Patriots, but he looks as though he is figuring it out. I have to think that his arrest had a lot to do with his emurgence, but still, he is making plays left and right. Let's all rally around him and embrace this talent that may take us to the next level. With Porter's injury, he has the opportunity to be featured as a true number one reciever before his contract expires. Way to go Matt! Make us all proud, bro!

Derrick Harvey's value diminishing

Some of you guys should go back and look at the players we could have had in camp that we gave up to grab this guy. Some points that I would like to make about Derrick and the 2008 draft are that we did give up our 1st round and both 3rd round picks to reach up and grab this fella. In hind sight, I went back to the draft board on NFL.com to see who we could have potentially had if we had just drafted those picks. It is pretty uninspiring to think of some of the top talent that was still available to us that we could have selected.

Another point I would like to make is this, almost all mock drafts that I can remember had Harvey going at or around the twelfth pick in the draft, so with that said, we actually gave Derrick a considerable pay raise by 'reaching' up to grab him at the eighth spot in the draft. Why all of this fuss about his contract? From what I have read and heard on the air, he is getting a more than fair deal based on last seasons number eight pick, Jamal Anderson. I believe it was a ten percent increase in fact, but don't quote me on that.

My point is that at this point in the contract negotiations, he may not be able to provide an imidiate improvement to this years squad because he has missed too much time. We gave up valuable draft picks and reached to draft him ahead of where he might have been actually drafted by another team. Sure that gives Harvey's agent more ammo to negotiate with, but come on, enough is enough. If he signs his contract with what the team has offered him, he'll still make a considerable amount more than what he would have gotten had he been picked at #11 or #12. What are your all thoughts on this subject? I'm starting to think we would be better this year with three extra players on the team right now than one selfish holdout. I would be surprised if Harvey has any real considerable effect on our teams defense this year due to time missed.
