Why aren't we actively interviewing coaching candidates now?
There's so much competition for coaches with HC openings at Miami and Florida (possibly Michigan) and OC openings at OU and Nebraska, why aren't we actively interviewing coaching candidates now? I realize that the candidates for the HC openings are different than those for the OC openings, but we all know how when one hire is made the dominoes then begin to fall (Petersen to Florida, Harsin to Boise HC or a new head coach leaves his staff behind and now HE is also looking for an OC).
1. Well, Mack doesn't want to be disrespectful and step on the toes of another HC who is preparing for a bowl game. I'm sorry, but unless you are preparing for the National Championship game (and I don't think we are seriously targeting any coaches from Auburn or Oregon), who gives a shit. Its the nature of the beast. We'd like to fly your OC down to Austin for one day and show him around and interview him. I apologize if we are interrupting your preparations for the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl. Many of these teams are not even conducting on-field practices yet with finals going on. If we choose to hire your coach, we have no problem with him staying on and coaching you through your bowl game (if that school still wants him). The schools with HC openings sure as hell aren't waiting.
Well, what if the shoe was on the other foot and it was your OC being sought after? Well, I can't even fathom that hypothetical because our OC has been Greg Davis for the last 13 years. I'm guessing that we would have paid to fly Greg where ever. So what if it was your DC being sought after? That would suck. But that's the way it goes.
2. While we may not be asking for official permission, we are working behind the scenes, putting feelers out, etc. Isn't that more disrespectful?
Get out there and start asking for permission to interview potential candidates. Hiring away an OC from a team playing what is essentially an exhibition game is not going to cripple that team like hiring their HC might. And while this may contribute to what is perceived as "Texas arrogance," you would be saying that we think making a hire at the coordinator level at Texas is just as important and valuable as your school hiring a head coach. FWIW.
In my quest to convince the world of the futility that is Rick Barnes
6:19: Come on Celtics … Avery Bradley … Avery Bradley … Avery Bradley.
6:20: YES! Good value. And by the way, if you're betting on a No. 1 overall high school prospect whose stock dropped a little after one college year, you want it to be for a reason like, "Yeah, he played at Texas for Rick Barnes, OF COURSE his stock dropped!"
T. Boone Pickens on Realignment
Here's a great little interview the AAS did with Pickens. Interesting viewpoints he has on Nebraska, Mizzou and the Texas-A&M relationship.
NATIONAL CHAMPS 2008!
Infant body suit
In a search for longhorn clothing I stumble across this. Someone please buy this and put it on your child, at least long enough to take a picture.
Give Pat Forde the sports pullitzer
We have spent the past 7 days trying to find the words to display our anger and frustration with the ongoings of the BCS. Forde does a great, albeit simple, job of tackling the longhorn issue as well as summarizing the major events of this season and how they all tie in together. I think I am actually able to achieve a bit of closer after reading this article.
Controversy constant along annual twisting BCS path
I love this!
For those looking for an opinion that has a little more bite than the mild mannered, afraid to piss off their bosses, talking heads that we normally see on tv. This is what I would have sounded like had I been in front of a camera anytime over the last week. Only I would have been sweating, my face beet red and there would have been a healthy dose of f-bombs sprinkled throughout.
Texas Tennis advances to Final Four
This is too cool. Thanks to kellen, this is your liveblog/celebration/wtf? thread. Everyone head over to www.texassports.com and follow the links to watch Texas try to advance to the Championship Round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament! - Horn Brain
#7 Texas men's tennis team defeated #2 Ohio State 4-2 on Sunday in Tulsa. The Horns will advance to the final four for the second time in 3 years (lost to eventual champion Pepperdine in 2006). They will meet the winner of USC-UCLA -It's UCLA -ed. #1 Virginia and defending champ Georgia will meet on the other side. This is a good break for the 'Horns as Virginia and Georgia are probably the top two teams in the tournament. This is a special group of guys, probably the deepest team in the field. They are led by Kellen Damico, a freshman out of Colorado who is a former Wimbledon junior doubles champion. Look for a Texas - Georgia final.
[Note by Horn Brain, 05/19/08 8:39 PM CDT ] Texas wins! Kutrovsky clinches it and Texas is headed to the Finals to play the winner of Georgia/Virginia. Details on TV and all that good stuff to follow.
[Note by Horn Brain, 05/19/08 9:17 PM CDT ] Final round will be played against Georgia at 6PM CST on ESPNU. Be there or be 54b. The University of Tulsa is running the event, so check out their site for any info you may want - Unless of course you're just trying to find out if we really have a tennis team or not, do that on texassports.com.

Gabe Muoneke Blog
Stumbled across this. Yes, a Gabe Muoneke blog. Interesting read, funny at times. Has some interesting and positive things to say about his time at Texas. Also some interesting stories about Ime Udoka for those of us who are Spurs fans.
Muschamp Deal Done!?
This coming from Auburn media:

Will Muschamp resigned today as Auburn's defensive coordinator to accept a similar position at the University of Texas.Muschamp, who interviewed at Texas on Thursday, told Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville shortly after returning from Austin this afternoon that he had decided to accept an offer from Longhorn coach Mack Brown. Muschamp leaves after two years on the Auburn staff.
The Auburn president and Board of Trustees recently approved a raise for Muschamp that would have made his salary $425,000 in 2008.He had a two-year contract with no buyout clause. He would have been the highest paid assistant coach in the Southeastern Conference.

Reason for Hope?
Or just more blog fantasies? Bob Stoops' biggest fan writes (last paragraph most important):
Duane Akina's tryout
really lasted only 4 minutes.
1st Half Iowa Offensive Stats:
246 total yards

63 yard scoring drive
Bright spot: Ineligible Receiver Downfield (wiping out a 93 yard scoring drive)
Ouch!
