MLB Daily Dish What 3 Players Would You Start Your Team With?

As trade season heats up, here's a fun exercise to get the juices flowing. -jbopp

Gyi0065250545_extra_large_medium

Lets say you were given a Major League expansion team to run. (obviously this is all hypothetical) You are allowed to pick ANY 3 players in all of baseball to anchor your team. These 3 players would come with 10 year contracts. Who would you choose to anchor your team for the next 10 years? Here are my 3.

Trade for Carlos Beltran?

I just had a brilliant idea! Let's trade for Carlos Beltran. Can't imagine he'd require a ton to get and he's hitting great in a contract year. Whaddya think? ***ADDITION*** I am born and raised in Millersburg OH and listened to the Indians my whole life. The Kershaw screen name is because I got into fantasy baseball and joined minorleagueball.com around the time Kershaw started being hyped as a prospect. Didn't know letsgotribe existed at the time. So TRUE INDIAN FAN but just happen to like Kershaw too....

Silver Screen and Roll Cheap Lakers tickets?

I'm gonna be in LA Friday Feb 25 and would love to catch the Lakers/Clippers game. However not wanting to spend 75 bucks... but maybe I just have to? Anyone know of anywhere I can get cheaper tickets? Don't really care where I sit. Thanks!

Fear The Sword Chris Paul in 2011?

Is it a plausible idea that we would sign Lebron and then have a shot at Chris Paul in 2011? Either that or work out a trade for him this year yet? If we could swing a lineup in 2011 with Paul/James/Jamison and then a steady bench I think we would have a nice rivalry with the Heat. Or would this mean that we need to get rid of Jamison somehow to make room to sign Paul. In any case I think Paul/James is just as scary as Bosh/Wade. Thoughts?

Minor League Ball Thoughts on Brandon Wood?

I apologize if there is a recent post discussing Wood. I looked and could not find one.. I'd like to know general thoughts on what Brandon Wood will do this season assuming he is the Angels 3rd baseman. I guess I'm sort of expecting a .250 23hr 70rbi line or somewhere around that.

The reason I ask:

12team 5x5 league. I need AVG and SB on my team and I am contending this year. I have Wood for 1$ for next two years then yearly increase of 50% minimum 5$. I've been offered Shane Victorino who is 15$ for this coming year and will go up 50% each year after.

So my real question is which is better.  5 years of affordable Brandon Wood. 1 year of affordable Shane Victorino.

Poll
Wood for Victorino?
Absolutely if you are trying to contend this year.
42 votes
Unsure it could go either way.
12 votes
No because Wood will be a beast 2011-2013.

Minor League Ball Mike Pelfrey revisited

I apologize if this subject was visited recently and I missed it. I'm just curious what the general consensus is on Mr. Pelfrey.  2008 he goes 13-11 with a 3.73era and 1.36whip through 200.2 inn. A good 110k/64bb ratio. This year the K's and BB's are both up a bit but he's giving up way more hits and runs and has a 5.08era and an awful 1.52whip. I have him in my keeper league and I have him for 6 dollars for the next two years if I so wish. With his 2008 season I am tempted to use one of my 15 valuable keeper spots. So is he just having a sophomore slump and will bounce back next year or is he just not good... Perhaps its the Mets awful luck this year that has sapped his desire. It'd be hard to be motivated on that team this year...  Anyways if all of you well eduacted people would give me your opinion that would be great!!

Thanks.

True Blue LA Russell Martin

Hello, I just joined True Blue. Contrary to my screen name I am actually a (blech) Indians fan. Big Dodgers fan though due to all of the exciting youngsters. Rooting for them to take it this year. I'm in a fantasy keeper league and am currently contemplating a trade for Russell Martin for Hunter Pence/Rod Barajas. I basically want to move Martin for salary reasons and will not be able to keep him for next season. Pence and Barajas are both affordable but doubt I will keep them for next year. Basically I'd want Pence to help me out with average/homers. So my question for you Dodger scholars is "Will Russell Martin start hitting?" He's heated up a bit but really... whats wrong?

Thanks and appreciate the input.

Minor League Ball Help prove Yahoo wrong

Yahoo has plastered on their front page this article http://www.yahoo.com/s/1070695 It says that Randy Johnson 6'10" vs Daniel Cabrera 6'9" is the tallest pitching matchup in the history of baseball.  I thought about it a little bit and suddenly remember another tall pitcher in the NL. Chris Young for the Padres. He is listed at 6'10". However I can't find a site anywhere that shows me pitching matchups over the last couple years. They were in the same division the last 2-3 years and it seems to me they should have met at some point. I'm guessing Yahoo is right but I would love to prove them wrong....

Minor League Ball Clayton Kershaw big year?

So far this year in 2 starts. 12inn 19k 5bbi 3ha 1.50era 0.67whip.(no desicions yet though) I remember reading earlier this year (maybe on this site) that Kershaw could be poised for a Tim Lincecum  type breakout this year. I realize this is only two starts into the season but man did he look filthy his last start.

When I read about the Lincecum type breakout I thought wow that would be awesome. His next start is Monday night against the Astros. Does he keep on dominating? What kind of a season do you think he is gonna have?

Is this the year Kershaw makes himself a household name? Can you see 2k10 with him on the cover?

By the way I hate 2k baseball games but love the last cover with Lincecum on it...COME BACK TO THE BASEBALL SIDE EA SPORTS!!!

Minor League Ball Nick Adenhart tribute

I am a big fan of basebal mogul and play it often. I was playing last night and was in the year 2028. I decided to see what kind of numbers Nick Adenhart had put up for his career. I decided to post this in honor of what Nick Adenhart could have been. May God Bless his family, friends, and the Angels organization.

This is just what Baseball Mogul had him do. I did not have the Angels as my team nor did I ever look at Nick Adenhart while I played. Overall I think he had a solid career. Sort of fizzled out quickly after age 35. He had 5 All-Star years. 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021. 2 Cy Young awards 2015, 2019. Unfortunately the Angels never won the world series while he pitched with them. The best they did was win the ALDS in 2011, 2017, 2018, 2019.

Minor League Ball A-Rod admits and apologizes

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rodriguez-steroids&prov=ap&type=lgns

A-Rod may have let down alot of his fans but at least he is more of a man than most. I must say when I found out I was very disapointed. I always though maybe just maybe A-Rod is a pure baseball player. The fact that he can face the media and his fans and say yes I took steriods and I regret my decisions goes a long way in my opinion. Maybe it wasn't his decision (lawyers, agents, Yankees management) but either way I think this is better than how some other players have taken steroid accusations. aka bonds, palmerio, clemens.

Minor League Ball Vote on awards-AL Cy Young

Ok, so I keep seeing everyone arguing about if CC should win a Cy Young and if Manny should be considered for MVP. Lets vote on a few of these issues... this is how it should be anyways, true baseball fans voting for the awards.... Since I can't put more than one poll in this post (at least I don't think I can) I will just put out 4 seperate posts (hope I don't tick everyone off). I'm really curious to see how the voting goes.

Thanks.

Minor League Ball Gavin is finally here

Is he the real deal? 10 wins and a 3.63 era 1.20whip at the break. I'm just curious if this is a tease or if he is only going to get better. Edwin Jackson seems to finally be the real deal as well. I remember about 3 years ago when I had both of these guys on my team and was thinking I had a couple of studs on my hands.

Is Gavin the new ace in Chicago?

Minor League Ball Question for John

I love this site and I check it daily. Previously one of my favorite things was the crystal ball posts. I am not sure why they disapeared, maybe they lost their touch but I would be very interested to see them again. I love looking at potential numbers for a player throughout their career and the controversy and discussion it brings. If your answer is no that is fine I am just curious.

P.S if you wanna throw one out there I'd love to see one on Kershaw or Sanchez.

Thanks.

Minor League Ball Max Ramirez = next stud catcher?

I just wanna know what everyone thinks of him. Killed the ball in the minors and in his first start at catcher for Texas he goes deep. The way Salty is playing I hope Max can take over and kick butt. Plus his full name is really cool Maximiliano Ramirez. But really... can a name like that suceed? In all seriousness is he the next stud catcher? Russell Martin came somewhat unheralded and took over with a frenzy.

I am sorry if I am wrong about Martin coming unheralded but I had not heard to much of him before he came up.

Minor League Ball Jonathan Sanchez part 2

On April 10th I posted a poll on who would have a better season. Jonathan Sanchez or Johnny Cueto. I personally was leaning towards Sanchez. The votes were split with Cueto winning at 132 votes and Sanchez with a mere 24. Sanchez is 5-3 with a 3.70era and 1.30whip. 75.3inn 75k 33bb. Cueto is 5-5 with 5.06era and 1.34whip. 74.7inn 70k 23bb. Care to revote? I am still convinced Sanchez will have the better season.

Minor League Ball For all of those Kershaw lovers

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AplvfVKSTUD9OP10sFiWcws5nYcB?slug=jp-kershaw051408&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Interesting article. Gets into his personal life a bit. Sounds like a pretty good kid. Alot of you will probably freak out at how they over hype him though. I hope the lights and cameras don't get to him. Go public enemy #1!

I guess I have to fill the rest of this up so it will let me publish it............ By the way I have Kershaw in my keeper league at 1 dollar for 3 more years.....

Minor League Ball Felix Pie?

I have a trade offer for Derek Jeter. Pie for Jeter. I am in a keeper league and my teams theme song is "another one bites the dust" (i have said goodbye to Tulowitzki. Blalock, Hughes, and Wells.) So my team is starting to free fall. I have an offer of Felix Pie for Derek Jeter. Is Pie going to do anything? Doesn't look like it right now. Your input on Pie's future please.

Thank you.

To add to this Jeter is 24 with 2 years left and Pie is 1 with 1 year left. After the contract is up salaries increase by 50 percent with a minimum of 5.

Minor League Ball jonathan sanchez!

Who all hascoppened to catch his game last night? I did and wow! He was on. It seemed the first time he got a runner on he freaked out a bit and couldnt hit the strike zone but then later with men on 2nd and 3rd and no outs he strikes out the next two guys then gets the 3rd out yet. I snatched him up last Monday night in my league hoping for a performance like this. Is this the real Jonathan Sanchez or is this a tease? I realize of course that he will still have his growing pains but come on he looked alot like that other red hot cincy rookie pitcher (not Volquez) . 10k in 6 innings. Thoughts?

Minor League Ball Marmol has done the impossible

According to CBS Sportslines live scoring Carlos Marmal pitched 1.1 innings with 3k. It also says he only threw 9 pitches. ???? 3ks equals 9 pitches...... how did he get that 4th out? He is amazing.
