Collie making waves and racking up the stats
"... I thought the Colts were taking Collie in this year's draft mostly for roster depth and special teams help, not as an integral part of their passing game. But there he was on Sunday night, scoring two touchdowns and generally looking like a poised veteran, not a rookie with one NFL start under his belt.
Think about this: Collie was the 19th receiver taken in this year's draft, and he already has 20 catches for 228 yards and three touchdowns. The top two receivers taken in this year's draft, Darrius Heyward-Bey and Michael Crabtree, have a combined for two catches, 36 yards and zero touchdowns."
What is Gaskins thinking?
I listened to the Bronco Mendenhall’s interview where he talked about his discussion with Gaskins and how he admired him for being willing to step down from the #2 QB spot. But I’m not so sure I admire him for stepping down.
One one side, he’s looking out for the team more than his ego, but on the other side the team is made of the individuals and their drive. If Gaskin’s is willing to give up something that he already has, then I’m not sure he deserved the #2 spot anyway. I’m sure that just sealed the deal for Mendenhall. Not because he nobly stepped down, but because he revealed why he was going to lose the spot anyway.
Was it nobility that allowed Gaskins to give up #2 or was it a lack of determination. I know as an athlete myself (high school glory days), I never, ever would have given up a spot as a starter or a backup. I switched positions twice "for the good of the team," but I never dropped a spot on the depth chart.
But I’m not convinced. Does anyone have any insights that I’m not thinking of?
