Webb says three specialists all gave him the same answer: don't have surgery. He'll spend four to six weeks strengthening the muscle and not throwing, but he hopes he can be back in time to make a few starts in September.

The Mesa Historical Museum has an exhibit up on the history of baseball in Arizona, including the Cactus League and even before then. Saw an article in a magazine about it and it looked pretty interesting. It's supposed to be running through the end of the years, so I'll have to convince mrskishi to make a cross-town trek. Anyone seen it?

The Mesa Historical Museum is located at 2345 N. Horne Street in Mesa AZ. During the summer, it's open Tuesday through Saturday, 9AM to 1PM, and admission is $5, $3 for children age 3 to 12.

Dealing with a drug scandal can be difficult. I encourage the Dodgers to look at how we handled the Jason Grimsley issue, and follow our lead.

Since we never got an update, and I've got a little spare time, here's a rundown of last week in the AAAZSnakepit League.

The Wind Farm 5, Funny team name 4

Budd By Proxy 7, DbacksSkins 2

Team Awesome 6, For Scherzer 3

Snyders Nutty Budeez 6, dance with girls 4

UofA Astronauts 5, Grace'sFlask IsEmpty 5

NiceCrispyBacon 6, Pelham Plumbers 3

Arizona Monsoons 10, Merely Mammals 0

Byrnes When I Peavy 7, The Nashville Nasty 2

Week Two Results:

The Wind Farm 5, Funny team name 4

The Wind Farm won with pitching, putting up scoreless starts from Johan Santana and Paul Maholm, and Funny team name nearly managed to sweep the offensive categories, making this Game of the Week an exciting contest down to the last day.

Budd By Proxy 7, DbacksSkins 2

Budd By Proxy romped this week, and Ian Kinsler's 9 runs and 6 RBIs makes him the notable MVP. Three home runs from Torii Hunter and saves from Papelbon and Qualls helped Dbacksskins avoid the shut-out.

Team Awesome 6, For Scherzer 3

Chien-Ming Wang might be Team Awesome's MVP here, despite being on For Scherzer's roster- a pitcher putting up a 61.71 ERA is hard to overcome. Team Awesome swept the pitching behind 20 strikeouts for Javier Vazquez, while 10 RBIs apiece from Ryan Ludwick and Bobby Abreu for For Scherzer gave them an edge at the plate.

Snyders Nutty Budeez 6, dance with girls 4

Having three Diamondbacks on your roster isn't an recipe for offensive success, as dance with girls found out this week. Snyders Nutty Budeez reaped the benefits of a 12 RBI week from Carlos Pena, while neither team impressed when it came to batting averages, and dance with girls won there, .236 to .219.

UofA Astronauts 5, Grace'sFlask IsEmpty 5

Strength versus strength here. UofA Astronauts swept the offensive side, largely thanks to 5 home runs, 6 runs, and 9 RBIs from Carlos Quentin. Meanwhile, Grace'sFlask IsEmpty dominated on the mound- Haren's 0.83 WHIP was nice, but credit Zack Greinke for going 2-0 with 19 Ks and a very nice 0.00 ERA for keeping this one an even split.

NiceCrispyBacon 6, Pelham Plumbers 3

Pelham Plumbers found themselves unable to resist the pitching power of NiceCrispyBacon, particularly the bullpen. Jonathon Broxton put up a win and a save for Bacon with 6 Ks and a WHIP of 0.00, and Fransisco Cordero notched three saves. The Plumbers made some noise at the plate behind an impressive .550 average from Raul Ibanez.

Arizona Monsoons 10, Merely Mammals 0

This rout seemed to have developed abruptly towards the end of the week, but what else would you expect from the Monsoons? Two wins from Edinson Volquez and 12 strikeouts from Randy Johnson, plus 7 scoreless innings from Ian Snell helped out the Monsoons pitching, and while the Mammals saw a great week from Andre Ethier- 4 homers, 8 runs, and 12 RBIs- they were just overwhelmed by the Monsoons in the end.

Byrnes When I Peavy 7, The Nashville Nasty 2

A pretty strong showing for Byrnes When I Peavy this week- the offense did well in the RBI column behind 10 from Mark DeRosa and 8 from Adam Jones. Matt Lindstrom's 2 saves for The Nashville Nasty was one of the few bright spots on their roster.

Standings

Rank Team W-L-T Pct GB

15. For Scherzer 5-13-2 .300 9.5
16. Merely Mammals 2-15-3 .175 12

Week 3 Games

The Wind Farm vs. Grace'sFlask IsEmpty

Budd by Proxy vs. Snyders Nutty Budeez

For Scherzer vs. DbacksSkins

UofA Astronauts vs. dance with girls

NiceCrispyBacon vs. Funny team name

Merely Mammals vs. Pelham Plumbers

Byrnes When I Peavy vs. Arizona Monsoons

The Nashville Nasty vs. Team Awesome

Well, with the week mostly over, it's probably a bit late to call the game of the week, but we'll go with the league-leading Monsoons facing off against Byrnes When I Peavy. The Monsoons are looking to show that their rout of Mammals was not a freak occurrence, while Byrnes looks to build some momentum and make up for their tough loss in Week One.
