Gutted about the loss? So am I.

Here's a wonderful play-by-play analysis I read from DB.com boards. Credit to mavsfan81 who spent the time going back through the 4th quarter and coming up with this.

Now, I'm not trying to point any fingers, but I think it speaks for itself. Probably has something to do with Carlise's 'too many minutes' quotes after the game?

You decide.

With everyone accusing everyone else of not watching the game, I decided to re-watch the 4th quarter and tabulate how the Warriors actually scored their 33 points. Now, obviously, the Mavs were in zone sometimes, but even then, it was a matchup zone, so you can see who had the cover. This is not to say who is at fault (in some of these pick and rolls, the switching was a mess), but instead to point who the Warriors were attacking. Points scored off of plays run at JJB are in red, transition/non half court set(fouls in the backcourt) points are in blue, other half court points are in black...

-Ellis blows by JJB with a crossover for a layup: 2 points
-Ellis drives past JJB for a layup, AND-1: 3 points
-Ellis and Mikki Moore in a pick and roll against Humphries and Barea, they got switched up, and Mikki Moore got an easy shot from there: 2 points
-Ellis and Mikki Moore in a pick and roll against Humphries and Barea, another switch, but Barea goes back to help on penetration by Ellis and fouls him. Ellis makes both FTs: 2 points
-In the zone, they isolate Ellis on Humphries, and he blows past him for the layup : 2 points

-After a made basket, Ellis pushed it up the court to Morrow, who was spotting up and he hit a 3 over a closing out Hump: 3 points
-Loose ball foul on Humphries, GSW hits 2 FTs: 2 points
-Transition alley oop to Randolph: 2 points
-Curry dribbles around JJB with the help of a Randolph screen and hits a top of the key 2: 2 points
-Curry drives around JJB and JJB fouls him, he makes both FTs: 2 points
-Transition wide open 3 for Curry: 3 points
-Ellis drives past JJB on a screen and roll. It was a soft screen, JJB went under it then stopped and switched onto Morrow, who Kidd was also going back towards, opening the lane up for Ellis: 2 points
-Curry goes around Terry and shoots a tear drop over Dirk: 2 points
-Ellis drives at Terry, Kidd traps, they dump it down to Randolph, Kidd strips him but it rolls to Ellis for a layup: 2 points
-Intentional foul in the backcourt: 2 points

JJB scored against - 15 points
Transition/non half court set - 12 points
Non-JJB scored against in half court- 6 points

In Summary: Out of their 21 half court points, 15 came in plays run directly at JJB. About half way through this exercise (about the time Anthony Morrow blew past JJB, Tim Thomas came over to help, and then had to foul Radmonivich), I realized that I should have tabulated every half court set, even those that did not result in points, but it was too late, and I didn't feel like going back and retabulating all of that. Suffice it say that a vast majority of their plays were run directly at him, largely because GSW had 3 athletic guards (Morrow, Curry, Ellis), and whoever JJB was guarding (either straight up man or matched up against in the zone), had a huge mismatch.

7/12 from downtown reinforces some of the sharp-shooting we saw in the clip posted here at MavsMoneyBall earlier. Personal fouls seems to still be an issue since the first game.

Here's what Rick Carlise had to say.

"He brings us a different dimension. We don't have this kind of angular speed, or supreme-type athlete at the point guard position right now. So he gives us a different look."

Resigning Jason Kidd

Got this excerpt from Yahoo Sports...

You can find the full article here.

Because of his comfort level with his teammates and city, and of course, the chance to get an $8 million-$9 million contract, odds are that free agent Jason Kidd will re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Yet, he has an intrigue with the New York Knicks that is mutual, and a Knicks source says they plan to try and meet with him once free agency starts on July 1.

Kidd is considering possibilities with Portland and Cleveland, but he always loved New York a lot more than New Jersey. He built good relationships with Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni and Portland’s Nate McMillan when they were assistant coaches for Team USA.

Barring a sign-and-trade deal, the Knicks would be limited to offering Kidd the midlevel exception.

i was a bit surprised to read in an Adrian Wojnarowski column on Yahoo!...Here

'...With the Knicks, there are two teams a source familiar with James’ thinking says intrigue him: The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.'

obviously i'm not taking it too seriously... interesting read though...

why?... i can understand New York or LA... but why Dallas.... Wojnarowski doesn't even believe that Nets are in the running for him.... (not that we are).... but what does Dallas have to offer that other teams don't...

Kelly Dwyer is proposing 76ers try to pull this deal off as they are struggling to come to terms with AI2's new contract.

I personally think this move is sort of like the one we've been discussing for Josh Smith, and possibly slightly worse. It's one for the future, and I don't really think it puts us in a better position to win it this year.

What do you guys think?
