Potential QB targets for Jags?

QB is clearly in need of improvement. Regardless if you believe in Gabbert or not, QB needs an upgrade. So here are some names that could be aavailable or maybe targets currently on teams

Alex Smith (obvious)

Matt Flynn (another obvious)

Ricky Stanzi (liked some of his stuff pre-draft)

Matt Moore

Dennis Dixon

maybe a shocker, but Brandon Weeden. New management apparently wants a change

Of course you could list any QB in draft, but lets not and instead give opinions/thoughts on current NFL QB that maybe or may not be on the Jaguars radar.

Please no Gabbert/Henne talk. This is about potential to improve the QB situation, not argue about its current state

Assuming you fire Gene Smith (question being when, not if), where do you look for next GM?

I'd start looking at Texans, Falcons, Bears, Giants front office people.

Also, do you allow GM to get a whole new coaching staff? (This one is tough for me, but I don't see how you force a GM to a staff)

My high hopes for the year have been crushed. Hopefully Gabbert shows whether or not he has what it takes and for some more improvement from guys like Shorts

How is he not in the top 5 for FB is understandable. No one outside of Jaguars fans probably he knows he exists (Lamarr Woodley probably does). We gotta man up and start voting for our Jags. I need more words. Vote for Greg Jones. Someone come up with a cool twitter trending thing. I am not creative enough to make a witty one. Greg Jones for Pro Bowl. And MJD and Scobee. And Uche. And Daryl. And Poz. And Greg Jones.

Top NFL WR college stats

Clearly, the Jags need a #1 WR. Looking just at stats, I wanted to compare some of todays top WR stats from college to some of the current top WR who will (may) be in the draft.

Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, Greg Jennings

Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffrey, Michael Floyd, Dwight Jones, Marvin McNutt (for Alfie)

I'll focus on # catches (can he get open), YPC (what does he do with the ball) and TDs (does he score)

Clearly, the Jags need a #1 WR. Looking just at stats, I wanted to compare some of todays top WR stats from college to some of the current top WR who will (may) be in the draft.

Current NFL WR

Calvin- Good # catches, pretty good YPC, good TD production (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/calvin-johnson-1.html)

Greg- Catches improved every year, YPC decreased over time in college, always had good TD production (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/greg-jennings-1.html)

Roddy- Not many catches until SR year, great YPC, # of TDs improved every year (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/roddy-white-1.html)

One thing that stood out to me was the high YPC and TD production. Now I do not know what style of offense these guys played in, which could inflate or deflate stats. Also, I have no idea how opponents game-planned for these guys (I assume Andre was double covered a lot due to his lack of catches). But now for the college guys.

Current College WR

Justin- Lots of catches, okay YPC, tons of TDs, may be a result from style of offense (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/justin-blackmon-1.html)

Alshon- Catches down, YPC down and okay TD production, all probably due to QB play (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/alshon-jeffery-1.html)

Michael- Good # catches, YPC average, Good TD production (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/michael-floyd-1.html)

Dwight- Decent # catches, good YPC, TD production improved every year (http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/dwight-jones-1.html)

Marvin- Catches improved every year, great YPC, great TD production(http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/marvin-mcnutt-1.html)

After looking at it I like Marvin and Dwight the most, especially since they probably won't be considered high first round picks. If somehow the Jags wind up with one of these two in the second, I'd feel much better about our WR corp.

I'm a Jags fan and it is clear that the team needs a stud at the receiver position. If somehow these two guys are available when the Jags are picking in April, I'd like to see one of them in teal. However, I haven't really followed either of their college careers and have only seen highlights of both. So I ask, who is better and why? Poll after the jump. Word Word (now I'm at 75)

Black Alts?

Is there any word on whether or not it is happening? All of the other uniform updates have been announced and no word on a black Magic alt. I have to add some more words here so I am going to keep typing until I get the correct amount of words here. I really would like to see a black Magic uniform. I really like the update from 2 years ago and I think a black one would compliment it nicely and would look sick (if its the same format)

General Gene giving the axe

I saw this yesterday: "True story: Gene Smith called Groves into his office last year and told him that he didn’t want him; that Shack is reason he was in Jax." If General Gene told Groves that he didn't want him and then eventually traded him, why is Reggie Nelson still around? I find it hard to believe that General Gene likes Reggie, considering he was benched by Del Rio. If he gave Groves the axe, when will Reggie get it (or will he even get it)?

Pass Rush helps Coverage

In 2007, the Jaguars had 37 sacks. In 2008, only 29. In 2009, only 14. Reggie Nelson's interceptions in those years went from 5 to 2 to none. So is it safe to ask that getting another safety in the draft is not as important as improving the pass rush overall? Did Reggie get progressively worse over those years or suffer from a lack of pass rush? I'm not trying to help him keep his job (watching Reggie Wayne blow by him still haunts me today), but are his weaknesses just being magnified due to how much time the QB is getting?
