So an era comes to an end
So as the last 30 seconds ticked away, the hearts of green fans sank slowly. Reality is starting to sink in, the post KG Celtics era has most likely come to an end, giving way to another "big 3" as their era looms. But before I go on about that, let me reflect on our team.
A champion team, true grit, true toughness, true team, true basketball. The brave warriors out there played the game the right way, the good old fashioned way. The true Boston Celtics way. The way that us fans are proud of, and even with the disappointments and misfortune in recent playoffs, the players have given us something to be truly proud of as Boston Celtics fans. For we witnessed the ups and downs, fortunes and misfortunes, joy and sadness of a great team that will forever be in our hearts.
I was going to make this a post about how we were couple pairs of fresher legs, couple of questionable plays run, couple turnovers that was plain schoolboy error, couple of big shots by Miami and couple questionable calls in tight moments for the Heat just because their big 3 pulls in millions of $$$ for the NBA each day. But no, things happen and it's all part of the game. We lost, no other way of putting it. But rather, I want to express what this last game truly meant to me.
The end of this era, is much bigger than basketball. To me, it signifies an end of an era in life. To me, this Celtics team and the way they play is more than just X's and O's, but rather it's a way of life. For the hardwork, doing things the right way, humbleness, unselfishness, and concern for others fall out of favour. A looming era dawns, signified by the Miami Heat team. Consider this, Heat is a team of young superstars in their mid 20s, turning their back on their fan base after receiving millions of dollars from them in terms of merchandise sales and other things. They have a star who self proclaim to be the one and the king, as opposed to being nicknamed something like the Truth by an established future HOF. They have a star who says "I'm not making excuses but I woke up with a crink in my neck", as opposed to someone who don't even talk about any injuries and won't make excuses for a dislocated elbow.
Let's look back on the first day. The Cs came together with a genuine smile on first day as if they were giddy young friends playing basketball together. It's real. The heat came together with fireworks and a performance that should be saved for after winning. It's superficial. As the new era looks to replace an old era, new values has already replaced old values in our society. However, the Boston Celtics remain the good old values. Us fans, can take pride in that.
And I am proud to be a Boston Celtics fan even in this very moment. I was first a C's fan when KG came on board (I grew up following him, watching him fail to make it thru first round year after year). I was worried when KG retires, I'll lose interest in the NBA as I won't have anyone to follow. But no, it just happens that KG became a Celtic, it introduced me to the best fans and the best team in the world. So here, I want to say, thank you to you all and to the team. It's been one hell of a ride, and let's hope the C's bounce back next year and the Bulls stop these new jokers in their tracks! Ubuntu!
