Freshmen Draft picks
As I goes through our potential draft pick in various fan post, I see many people suggesting Avery Bradley and Eric Bledsoe should be our draft pick. As I see videos of them, I see lots of talents and freakish skills out of them. However, I am really worry about their mental status based on the transition from high school to college to NBA within 2 years. Look at our previous draft pick, Outlaw, Bayless and Webster takes at least 4-5 years at least to develop into a solid NBA players while B.Roy and Dante are contributing at the first year of their pro career. Therefore, I am just saying that we should draft a junior or senior to contribute right away instead of draft a talented freshmen to develop as a project. I understand they have enormous talent, but I could see our championship window is coming within this few years, so we should draft guys that are ready for NBA right now. What do you guys think?
For this year draft, I suggest the following players:
1) Ekpe Udoh
2) James Anderson
3) Greivis Vasquez
4) Quincy Pondexter
When is Batum coming back?
With the recent 3-guard line up comes to the end, our rebound numbers finally get back to normal and it seems that Webster gets his groove back. However, I just have the feeling that Webster is still not the solution at SF when we face some legitimate teams such as Denver, Cleveland and so forth. Therefore, I just wonder when is my favorite Blazers Nicholas Batum coming back? (I believe we need his hustle, block shot, rebound, def skills, corner 3pt and his dunk)
Potential 3-way trade
When every team is making their moves to make them stronger, it seems that our Blazers are staying put. The longer the wait, the more nervous I get. When I heard the news about B.Bass has signed with Magic, I think we indeed need to get P. Millsap. After getting Millsap, I believe we also need to generate some trade to obtain some experienced PG and SF. Therefore, I have thought of this following trade scenerio and it is approved by the ESPN trade machine. (Assume we get Millsap)
Portand:
Trade: S.Blake, T.Outlaw, Joel
Get: T.Prince, K.Hinrich
Chicago:
Trade: K. Hinrich
Get: S.Blake, T.Outlaw
Detroit:
Trade: T.Prince
Get: Joel
In my opinion, I think it is a fair trade for all teams. Detroit get a true center after all his big men are gone and they draft 2 SF. Chicago got a decent PG backup to D.Rose and a natural scorer in Outlaw. Of course, we got leadership from Hinrich and SF threat in Prince. Also, our defense is immediately upgrade and it becomes more Nate McMillian's team. With the below lineup, I truly believe we can get past first round in the playoff and even may get a spot in the Western conference finals.
K. Hinrich/ J. Bayless/ L. Hunter or some cheap vet PG
B.Roy/ Rudy
Prince/ Batum
LA/ Millsap/ Pendergraph
Oden/ Millsap
What do u guys think?
Tony Battie
Looking back at the Finals, there is an underrated PF/C that our Blazers may able to have. His name is Tony Battie. He has a great locker room presence and he has played in the big league for 12 seasons already. He is an excellent rebounder and a solid defender. Also, he is perfect passer for the High-Low pass to Oden as I see him do that couple times with D.Howard. He doesnt need to play much minute and he can lock down couple mid-range jumper like Fyre. His veterian experience can help the young groups of our PF/C to grow.
Even than his salary is a little bit high for him, but I think we can obtain him by trading Webster/Outlaw plus 2 second round picks to trade him or trade both Webster/Outlaw for him and J.J. Redick. I think the Magic may accept the trade because I recalled that the Magic doesnt have any draft picks in this year draft and Webster can let them spread the floor even more (Outlaw, I just want to get rid of him, I am just sick of his mediocre after 6yr of NBA). JJ is another underrate player that I like. He is an excellent passer and he can shoot lots and lots of 3 if he is in the rhythm.
What do you guys think?
Shane Battier
This is my first post in the Blazer's Edge and English is not my first language, so please bear with me......Anyway, I have seen you guys talking about we should get a legit 1 and a backup 4 over the summer via trade or draft. I truly believe they are necessary, but I am just wondering if we can slide B.Roy as 1 and put Rudy as 2. Basically, we have a legit 1 and B.Roy always handle the ball @ 4th quarter. B-Roy can basically post up any point guard while having a 3-pt threat from Rudy in the beginning. Of course, that means we have to get rid of Sergio (who I dont really like anyway as he told Bayless minute away), but we can trade him to BOS for L.Powe or DET for J. Maxiell or Min for C.Smith.
Actually, I just want to see if there is any chance that Portland can trade or sign Shane Battier for our starting 3. It is weird that he is the best current defender in the NBA (I think). If you see how he defend Kobe in the playoff, that is basically the textbook defence plus more. When Yao goes down, he is the one who fire up the whole team. For me, There is nothing but respect to him. Since I dont know anything about his contract, so I dont know if he is going to be in free agent or trade market. However, I really think he can help the whole team in general. He has the veterian leadership, knows defence (duh!), can shoot 3 in the corner, be mentor to Batum, can assist. I think he is the best SF in the NBA (defence-wise), but it probably is difficult to get him. I think that he is better than Ron Artest, let's hope Shane has respect to B.Roy like Ron did.
My proposal lineup:
PG- B.Roy/S.Blake/Bayless
SG-Rudy/Webster/
SF-Battier/Batum
PF-L.A./Powe or Hayes or C.Smith
C-Oden/ Joel
Out: Sergio, Fyre, Outlaw,
