What will it take for Hawkns to keep his job?
I am just curious what everyones opinion is on what Hawkins has to do to keep his job. My heart tells me nothing short of a big 12 title because he has set fire, as he would put it, to a once proud program. My mind tells be he has to get to 8 wins to secure his job for another year. Let me know what you all think through the comments or the poll.
GO BUFFS!
2010 Bronco Schedule
If I understand how the NFL schedules correctly, the Broncos will play the NFC West, AFC South, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and our usual 6 division games. If I am completely full of it, let me know.
Onion makes fun of Jay Cutler
You gotta love the onion. Some of the other pics below Jay are awesome as well.
Hawkins the flip flopper
I have been largely lurking on this site for this season. This has mostly because I have been so frustrated that I don't even know where to begin. Hawkins latest comments about the QB situation have made me break my silence.
"He's still going to have a role, and I think there is a very good chance you could see both of them," Hawkins said. "They will both be ready to go."
"Part of it is a little bit of a gut feel, and you'd love to say it's this guys' show, but you never know," Hawkins said. "He might break his collarbone on the second play of the game. He could get inordinately hot, or hot and we're doing great and Cody never plays."
I can't believe the way Hawkins is handling this situation. How can this guy treat 18-22 year old kids the way he is treating Hansen and expect to get any recruits in the future. I am a buff through and through, but if a kid asked me if he should go play at CU right now or go somewhere else, I would probably have to tel him if football is him number one priority he should go somewhere else. I feel that Hansen now has to look over his shoulder and has to feel that he isn't going to get the clean shot he deserves. This is going to put a lot of pressure on him and make it even more difficult to succeed.
The first two quotes irritate me but this one takes the cake.
"I don't think you ever want to have the hook hanging over anybody's head by any means, but it's funny, Michigan State is playing two quarterbacks and they're starting to make a little bit of a run here," Dan Hawkins said. "It seems to be working out OK for them and I think a lot of it is because both their guys handle it good."
This is the one that irritates me the most because he is just setting up the justification for putting Cody in the game if Hansen isn't injured. I am sick of watching this program go down the toilet. Hawkins is a fraud and needs to go now. If we don't get rid of him now we run the risk of having even less talent when we do eventually let him go then when we let Barnett go. Fire Bohn! Fire Hawkins!

College Football Dictator
So some may see this post as a little silly, but I think it will let some people get some things off their chest and have fun at the same time.
If you woke up one day and had the power to change College Football however you like, what would you do? Pretty much you become Dictator for life of College Football.
Here is what I would impose on the College Football world:
-All 6 BCS conferences must have 12 teams, no divisions, and the teams with the top two records play each other in a conference championship game. Each team gets two “rivalry” games within the conference that they play every year and the rest of the conference schedule rotates accordingly (i.e. Michigan would still play Ohio St. and Mich St. every year but everybody else within the conference would rotate). I would force Notre Dame to join the Big 10. The Big East could have there pick of any number of mid major teams but for now lets put Ball St., S. Illinois, Buffalo, and Rice in there, I am not much of an east coast guy but I didn’t think it would make sense putting BYU in the Big East. I would place Coloardo (and this probably going to create some controversy) in the Pac 10 with Utah. I would then put TCU in the Big 12. I have always thought CU and the city of Boulder had more of a Pac-10 feel. Plus for selfish reasons I would much rather take a road trip to LA, Tempe, and Seattle, then Lubbick, Aims, and Waco.
-Playoffs will be instituted. All 6 BCS conference winners will be invited and the top two remaining teams. 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, and so on. Note if you don’t win your conference you are no higher than the #7 seed. The games would be played at existing bowl sites with the top ranked team picking which site they want to play at and so on.
-I would keep the 12 game regular season (4 non-conference, 8 conference), but I would stipulate that division II teams cannot be scheduled, each team must have 6 home games and 6 road games, and a minimum of 2 of your non-conference games must be against other BCS schools.
That sums up what I would change. What do you think of what I propose and what would you propose if it you had the opportunity?
Enough scolarships for this years recruits?
I am going to start this out by saying I hope I am embarrassed within minutes of posting this because I missed something obvious and it is pointed out to me. With that being said I am a little unsettled because I think the Buffs only have 19 scholarships available for the 09' class. By my count we currently have 66 players under scholarship, and per NCAA rules you are allowed to have a maximum of 85 under scholarship. This number is based off the posts from irish breaking down the returning players which can be found here:

Players under scholarship with 1 year of eligibility remaining (13):
Taj Kaynor, Marcus Burton, Shaun Mohler, Jeff Smart, Chappele Brown, Ben Burner, Matt Dilallo, Justin Dresher, Kevin Moyd, Jake Behrens, Riar Geer, Pat Devenny, Devin Head.
Players under scholarship with 2 years of eligibility remaining (14)
Eric Lawson, Marquez Herrod, BJ Beatty, Michael Sipili, Jimmy Smith, Jalil Brown, Aric Goodman, Cody Hawkins, Corey Nabors, Demetrius Sumler, Scotty Mcknight, Josh Smith, Nate Solder, Evan Eastburn.
Players under scholarship with 3 years of eligibility remaining (26)
Curtis Cunningham, Eugene Goree, Lagrone Shields, Conrad Obi, Tyler Athles, Josh Hartigen, Anthony Wright, Jonathan Hawkins, Lamont Smith, Patrick Mahnke, Anthony Perkins, Jameson Davis, Matt Ballenger, Tyler Hansen, Darrell Scott, Rodney Stewart, Brian Lockridge, Marquez Simas, Ryan Deehan, Matt Bahr, Blake Behrens, Ryan Miller, Ethan Adkins, Shawn Daniels, Mike Iltis, Sione Tau.
Players under scholarship with 3 years of eligibility remaining (13)
Will Pericak, Lynn Katoa, Jon Major, Doug Rippy, Steven Hicks, Vince Ewing, Paul Vigo, Ray Polk, Chase Blackmon, Ryan Wallace, Bryce Givens, Ryan Dannewitz, Max Tuiotu-Mariner.
If all these guys are under scholarship stay how does Hawk bring in more than 19 this recruiting class? I realize between now and next fall a couple people will probably transfer or quit the program and a couple we bring in this year may not qualify or something will happen along the way that causes them to not be a buff next year. Maybe this allows the class to grow a little bit, but it may be a stretch to bring in 22 like Hawk is talking about. The thing that worries me even more is that we should have a much improved record the next couple years and we will only have around 15 scholarships available each year when we will be in a position to make significant inroads in recruiting.
