great falls wins their opener 9-0; 12 round pick kevin skogley went 7 innings for the win. SSH's favorite son walked in a pinch hit AB.

http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080618/SPORTS/806180315

bristol lost 6-3 in 12 innings. 37 year old SS prospect juan silverio went 2-4 and drove in all of bristol's runs. cheat's boy lucas harrell, on rehab from b-ham, went 3 innings, gave up one run, and struck out five.

yes, this is trap for the unwary. but i will propose anyway. basically, scott reifert, white sox VP of communications and writer of the http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/ blog, every year has the readers of his blog come out to an event where there's a Q&A session with him, hear from other sox execs or players (KW and ozzie in 2006; rick hahn, ed farmer, and moose skowron in 2007), sox giveaways and some other interesting stuff that i can't remember. basically, i propose we sign up for it to and make it a SSS-laden event. this strikes me as a good idea because 1) it would otherwise be pretty difficult to get all of us seats at a game relatively close together, 2) it's an otherwise interesting sox related event and 3) we all know how much SSH hates KW so it would be hilarious to see him go one on one with KW about the ray durham-jon adkins trade.

Here are the details from reifert's blog:

Blog Night III

OK, we finally got this worked out … to order click here.

Game is 8/6 vs. Detroit (7:11 start). Tickets are $18 each and supplies are limited so order early. Passcode when you order is: “Blog” (creative, I know).

If you have any problems or issues ordering: dmilliken@chisox.com (my good friend Dustin)

As in past years, Blog Night III attendees will be asked to arrive by 5:45 pm for an event in the Conference & Learning Center (details to follow). From there, you can head up to your seats as a group.

this is the link to the tix:

https://oss.ticketmaster.com/html/group_corp_start.htmI?l=EN&team=whitesox&owner=2399795&group=29576&err=&event=&customerID=

i've already got my ticket to the event; the seats are supposed to be all together and i'm in section 107, row 22 - so the seats are in the first section in RF next to the foul pole. if people think this is a good idea, i recommend purchasing relatively soon considering there are a limited number of tickets available. and $18 is a steal for everything that's included.

and go read reifert's blog because it's good.

DL: Do you think that defense is underappreciated by most baseball fans?

OH: No, not by real fans like you’ll find in places like Boston, Chicago, St. Louis and both New Yorks. They know the game well, so they know how important defense is.

but those fucking people in arizona who want to trade him away to one of the above places...well, don't get me started.

won't be heading to charlotte just yet. as someone who has dealt with this injury recently, this isn't a big surprise. one of the trickier injuries i've ever had - hard to tell when it's completely gone and how hard to push it.

i know two people.

The crosstown classic that became largely irrelevant after the Sox won an actual World Series -- and just not the city's version -- is now just a huge distraction that puts the teams involved at a disadvantage within their divisions. Using personal feelings to dismiss the series' importance is no longer necessary.

Look at it this way: Both teams have six games against a first-place opponent over the next two weekends while their division rivals get at least one set against second- or third-tier opponents. Here's who the other teams will be facing:

Cleveland: Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Minnesota: Arizona and Milwaukee

Detroit: San Diego and Colorado

St. Louis: Boston and Kansas City

Milwaukee: Baltimore and Minnesota

....

Or maybe I'm the outlier, and everybody who cares about baseball in Chicago has these games marked on their calendar. Personally, I've circled the June 30 game against the Indians to denote my favorite part of interleague play:

The end of it.

22) Aaron Poreda, LHP, Chicago White Sox: 2.77 ERA with 38/14 K/BB in 55 innings in the Carolina League. Doing well, low K/IP ratio of some concern.

also of note is sickels picking up on the rumor about DLS:

15) Fautino De Los Santos, RHP, Oakland Athletics: Sore elbow, might need Tommy John.

How the White Sox are Winning - from BP

... Can this be sustained? Despite playing above expectations as a team, the White Sox don’t have a lot of negative markers. The home-run rate, especially among the relievers, is going to rise. However, the offense isn’t likely to change much—four guys are above expectations, while four others are substantially below. If the usual happens, that still gives the Sox a good lineup, although it would be hard to improve it substantially. The only place where the Sox are likely to add a player is second base, and finding a good-hitting second baseman in the trade market is like looking for a portly vegan. The bench is awful: seven walks and ten extra-base hits so far. That’s something Kenny Williams will look to improve.

Mostly, with these Sox, what you see is what you get. They won’t hit for average, won’t knock balls into the gaps, won’t impress you with their defense. They hit home runs and draw walks, keep the bad guys from doing the same. Probably the biggest reason to like them is simply the inability of the Indians and Tigers to play .500 baseball so far. The buy-in for winning the AL Central eight weeks ago was 93 wins. It’s lower than that now, and if the Sox weren’t likely to reach that first number, it’s much more likely that they can get to 88 or 89, and that may be all they need.

Well, the moment for which Sox fans have been waiting since 1990(!): a pick lower than #12. The Sox farm system is extremely thin - ranked last or next to it by almost all commentators. What should Kenny Williams do with the #8 pick to attempt to breathe some life back into it?

And, due to a rather unfortunate free agent signing and a refusal to let a certain aged player go (but i digress), the Sox will not pick again until #86. So feel free to list any sleepers of which we should be aware.
