MLB Draft often sees Georgia Bulldogs signees selected early

Good article by David Ching on day 1 of the MLB draft: a bit of history on some UGA Baseball signees that have signed with MLB teams instead of coming to school(some interesting guys I didn't know about on that list). Byron Buxton will surely be added to the list tonight, with talk he's going to be one of the top picks in the draft, possibly to Minnesota with the 2nd pick. One not being talked about is Duane Underwood, who some think could go at the end of the compensation round tonight, or at the latest, the start of the 2nd round tomorrow. Unfortunately for us, this has become the norm of late, and could be one of the reasons why we haven't been as good the past few seasons: over-recruiting and not getting enough players onto campus. Alex Wood should get drafted tonight as well.

Ohio State, Georgia cancel 2020-21 Home-and-home Football Series

Uncertainty over future schedules kill a series with serious national implications. Another casualty of expansion.

Martin Prado Batting Behind Michael Bourn: A Statistical Analysis

During a few recent Game Threads, the idea that Martin Prado is struggling while Michael Bourn is on base has been broached a few times. To many, Martin Prado seems like a prototypical second...

Jurrjens on demotion: "Nobody to blame but myself"

JJ says all the right things about his demotion, but it also sounds like he has a positive mindset going down to Gwinnett. He's always seemed like a good guy to me, so hopefully, he can figure it out, regain his confidence, and get back to Atlanta.

Rosterbation: August Waiver Wire Edition

This thread is for all the news, ideas, and thoughts out there that deal with roster additions and player movement for the Braves, as well as the rest of the league.   Carpengui has an excellent...

ESPN: Phillies among NL's greatest ever?

ESPN compares the 2011 Phillies to the 1975 Reds, 1986 Mets, 1998 Braves, and 2004 Cardinals. Not exactly scientific, but an interesting read nonetheless.

2011 Derek Lowe: A Tale of Two "Halves"

It's no secret that Derek Lowe has struggled during the past 2+ months of this season after a pretty good start to the year.  His first 11 starts can be categorized for the most part as strong...

Tigers' Jim Leyland: Umpires' hostility 'getting out of hand'

Jim Leyland believes the increased tension between umpires and teams has become a problem in baseball. 4 people were ejected from their game with the Angels last night without much incident. Given Chipper's comments the other day, and the generally bad umpiring we've seen lately, I think there is definitely something to this. John Kruk weighed in on this topic last night on Phillies/RedSox/Yankees Tonight talking about now is the time we see replacement umpires come up to give some of the regulars a vacation, and they are the one's partially to blame for many of these incidents. He even had a story of his own about a replacement ump Baseball needs to do something to address this growing situation with umpires, or people will be calling for more replay.

Prado tentatively set to begin rehab assignment at Triple-A on Wed.

Prado will be evaluated tomorrow morning and could begin rehab assignment tomorrow night w/ Gwinnett in Charlotte. G-Braves play 2 in Charlotte Wed and Thurs, followed by 4 in Gwinnett Fri-Sun. He said he wants to get 30 ab's before returning, so we may not see Prado until after the break, even though he has said he wants to play in Philadelphia this weekend.

DOB: Jones’ knee sore again, hopes to avoid DL

As much as he's struggled over the past week or two, it might be the right time for Chipper to get his knee scoped with the All-Star break coming up. It would give him an extra few days without any games to lessen the impact in terms of games lost, should he need to get it cleaned up later in the season.
