I love baseball, I love football. I also love music, art, films, and fashion. I love to draw as well. Also, I'm not a dude.

Twins to sign Byron Buxton

1

Per LENIII. Pending the results of a physical tomorrow, he will officially be part of the Twins organization. It is expected that he'll start the year with the GCL Twins in Ft. Myers and possibly finish with the Elizabethton Twins. He could also get the biggest signing bonus of the 2012 draft. More details once the signing is official.

A few years ago, local singer/songwriter Jeff Arundel wrote and recorded his song "Harmon Killebrew." It only appeared on one of the Cities 97 samplers, and can be found as a free download today. I feel that it is appropriate to share this on the first anniversary of his death. Rest in Peace, Killer.

OPINION: Who to blame for the Twins' woes

After finding themselves on the receiving end of a no-hitter, the Twins' problems are more than apparent. Even if the pitching was effective, the offense simply was not there. Fans are searching...

"The Dugout" Opening Days '12: Minnesota Twins

Justin Morneau calls Jim Thome for DH advice. In case you haven't figured it out yet, hilarity ensues.

Scott Baker undergoes surprise Tommy John surgery

4

While Scott Baker having scar tissue removed from his right elbow, the doctor discovered that his UCL was damaged. They decided to perform Tommy John surgery in addition to clearing out the scarring. Baker's recovery time will be at least 12 months, and some of that rehab will be with the Twins.

Scott Baker to start season on DL

2

Per Terry Ryan, according to Rhett Bollinger via Twitter. Baker is on the 15-day Disabled List, retroactive to March 27. Bollinger also reports that Jason Marquis is "improbable" to be ready for the season. (Sounds like his daughter's injuries are more serious than I thought.) Liam Hendriks appears to be the favorite to start against the Orioles on April 8, and it appears that Anthony Swarzak will start some games.

Butera optioned to Rochester

Sweet Drew did not make the 25-man roster for Opening Day. And in unrelated news, the Ft. Myers and Rochester, NY, fire departments are on heightened alert for dumpster fires.

Zumaya debating Tommy John vs. retirement

9

He's already cleared out his locker. He's already had two surgical procedures on his right elbow, two on his right shoulder, and one on a finger on his right hand. Even if he decides to undergo Tommy John surgery, he could very well call it a career and decide it isn't worth the risk. We'll know in the coming days what he decides to do.

All-Star Game replaced with first-annual MLB Hunger Games

1

According to MLB commissioner Bud Selig, this is the only way to make All-Star weekend "really count."

Matt Capps broke the streak!

4

And by "the streak," I mean the streak of players (current and former) who have welcomed baby girls for the past 18 months. Capps and his wife Jennifer welcomed their son Maxwell Martin Capps on February 8. He weighed in at a very healthy 8 lbs, 9 oz. Mazel tov all around!

Target Field doesn't just attract the local wildlife

Super-cool video of a Snowy Owl visiting Target Field over the weekend and making herself at home. I can't help but think she was a little upset that she came down too early for baseball.

Bud Selig gets 2-year extension as MLB commissioner

He said he was going to retire after the 2012 season. The owners decided he should stay on through 2014, and he didn't decline the offer.

How far does Twins Territory extend? (Or, Where are you from?)

Inspired by a post I saw on Fish Stripes, I thought it might be fun to see where Twinkie Town posters and lurkers hail from. We all know that the Twins play in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but not...

Trevor Plouffe: Ladies Man, Lord of the Rings Fan

Once again, That's Twins Baseball does not disappoint. His renditions of Plouffe riding Shadowfax are brilliant! Personally, I think it's time to pass the baton of Team Nerd to Plouffe. And if you aren't yet following Trevor Plouffe on Twitter, he's at @tplouffe24

Cuddyer's a Daddy… to twin girls!

4

Congratulations to Michael Cuddyer and his wife Claudia on the birth of their daughters Chloe and Madeline this morning. Everyone is doing well.

Phillies are seriously pursuing Michael Cuddyer

12

First, they sign Jim Thome (which I don't have a problem with, since the Twins have bigger issues to resolve, and Jimmers should ride off into the sunset with Charlie Manuel). Now, they're going after Cuddy. They see him as an ideal 1B if Ryan Howard is still dealing with his ruptured Achilles' tendon, and as an outfielder or possible back-up 3B. I also wouldn't be surprised if Jimmers tries to talk Cuddy into joining him in the Philly Delph.

Joe Nathan to sign with the Mets?

2

Nathan grew up in Pine Bush, NY, and attended Stony Brook University, so it would make sense that he would consider ending his career in his "home market." The Twins, however, are interested in re-signing him even though they declined his $12.5MM option. Nathan has said that money isn't what's important to him; he'll sign with a team that he feels has the best shot at a postseason and where he can pitch in "big games."

For those who don't follow Cuddy on Twitter or on Flickr, the above link will take you to a gallery of photos he took at Target Field on September 29. If you haven't seen his photography yet, I highly recommend that you check out the other collections he has on his Flickr page.

GM Smith: acquiring an "ace" is a possibility

6

This is just one of the points made in the PiPress article linked above. It also looks at the trades—both good and bad—that have been made during Smith's time at GM. As for an "ace," CJ Wilson and Mark Buehrle are the most high-profile pitchers that are likely to hit the free agent market. I've said it would be worth making some offers to Wilson but not get dragged into a bidding war, and we know Nolan Ryan won't let him go without a fight. Buehrle is a Twin-killer but he'd also be a good top-of-the-rotation starter. He's also a vampire so players should put rosaries on any food items they don't want him to steal and should avoid bringing holy water into the clubhouse. Let the rosterbating begin!

It's official: Justin Morneau is done for the season

+

Justin Morneau has not played since August 28 due to lingering concussions symptoms which—as previously mentioned—may have been brought on by a new concussion. Factor in the flu that has sickened him for the last few days and it complicates things further. Now with the news that he's getting what would have been off-season surgeries done tomorrow, he won't be on the field for these last two weeks. Get well, Justin. Hope you have a speedy recovery and I hope you're healthy enough to come back in 2012, even if it may only be as a full-time designated hitter.

The Whipping Boy or, Why the Mauer Hate

I really should stop reading comments on Twitter, Facebook, and any major Twins blog. It seems the fans need a whipping boy or scapegoat (or both) on whom to vent their frustrations with this...

Twins "Star Wars Night" is September 20!

7

You're a nerd, and you're proud of it. But being able to rattle off Rene Tosoni's UZR in day games with clear skies and a light breeze while the air temperature is 71 degrees isn't quite nerdy enough for you. Well, the Twins have answered your prayers! The team is hosting "Star Wars Night" on September 20. The above link goes to the promotion's page and ticket proceeds are going to Stand Up 2 Cancer. Finally, you can wear your Chewbacca costume to the game and no one will think you're a weirdo.
