attemting to fix the defense through free agency

Other than in the first or second round finding a starter in the draft is difficult especially on defense, so here as some musing as to how we could improve our d through free agency.

Sign michael boley or bart scott who i believe should talke urlachers spot. an idea that many believe could be prudent due to briggs' awesomeness and urlachers declining play, however, i disagree with most of the people that believe we should trade him, when it is obvious what we should do with him, shift him to the spot hillenmeyer couldn't keep and nick roach won by default. I think this switch will solidify our lb core and help our woeful secondary.

speaking of the secondary the bears brass are gonna need to be creative with who they bring in considering that other than Nnamdi Asomugha the free agent pool is luke warm. so I think we have to take some chances, specifically on leigh bodden, recently discarded by detriot. bodden who just as recently as 2007 had a 6 pic season, and I know he didnt like merinelli's tampa 2 but our scheme is much different often leaving cbs on an island with only one saftey covering deep which is similar to what bodden had in cleveland.

And to help shore up the saftey positions the only name that could possibally help us is jermaine phillips of the bucks, he has experience in the cover 2 and is a better than average at creating turnovers, he would fit nicely on our d.

so what do you guys think?

The bears need to stop looking for a world beater

We need to face facts the bears are probably never going to have a peyton manning or tom brady type qb. The bears have been looking for a franchise qb for as long as I have been alive. We should change our focus and bring in someone who is going to stabilize the position, someone who is above average but not going to turn any heads, somebody like jake plummer (not advocating we go and get jake the snake). The only player I can think of that could fit that bill would be, all but forgotten buccaneer chris simms, he is good not great, and I think would be perfect as the bears signal caller. I know he hasnt played in like two years but he is an upgrade over ortman.

So I was wondering what everyone here thought about our day 1 starters, on both sides of the ball.

I think it will be

on offense; qb grossman, rb, benson(however will only be a starter in name, will split time with forte) c kruetz, t tait and williams g garza and either beekman/ metcalf (not sure) te clark/olsen (we damn well better run two tight ends) wr booker, bradley, hester

and on defense; de ogunleye, brown, dt harris, dvoracek, lb briggs urlacher, hillenmeyer, cb vasher, tillman, s mike brown, payne.

So what do you all think

so i was reading an espn article about the 5 stages of grief for patriot fans, and it made me think what patriot fans were actually thinking and this was the latest diary post. tell me what you think

http://www.patspulpit.com/story/2008/2/5/17120/56189

One-line diaries are prohibited on McCovey Chronicles. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.

I know lovie said ron turner's job was secure but now hearing that cam cameron is out of miami do you think the bears will make a move, if you dont look at this last season at miami I think cameron looks like a good candidate. And there is no way he would be less imaginative then turner.

I think we already have most of the pieces to have an explosive offense again, we just need to reload at oline,
