Behind the Steel Curtain Updated Mock Draft from a Pro - Steelers Select MLB Rolando McClain

I am not going to make my own Mock Draft, I don't know College Football Players that good to do this.

Here's a very good Mock Draft from a pro, though. It is updated and he has changed his Steeler picks after Casey Hampton was resigned and with some other new Free Agents signed

http://walterfootball.com/draft2010.php

Steelers 1st Round Pick - Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama

Surprised to see Rolando McClain this low? Some mocks have McClain as high as No. 5, which I think is crazy. No inside linebacker has gone higher than No. 9 (Brian Urlacher) in the past 15 years. And there's a reason for that, as well as the fact that other renowned inside linebackers like Rey Maualuga and James Laurinaitis have fallen - the position is not that important.

However, McClain is a great value at No. 18, and I can't see the Steelers passing up on him if he's available. James Farrior has been a very good player for a number of years, but he recently turned 35. The Steelers will have to find a successor soon.

Other 2010 Steelers 1st Round Draft Possibilities:

1. Kyle Wilson, CB - Corner is a huge need for the Steelers.

2. Mike Iupati, G - Right guard has to be upgraded.

---

Steelers 2nd Round Pick - Dominique Franks, CB, Oklahoma

As I wrote earlier, the Steelers have to upgrade a secondary that couldn't stop Bruce Gradkowski in a must-win December game.

---

Steelers 3rd Round Pick - John Jerry, G, Ole Miss

Right guard is a big position of need for the Steelers. John Jerry fits the team's blocking scheme.

---

Steelers 4th Round Pick - Eric Norwood, DE/OLB, South Carolina

The Steelers have two great pass-rushing linebackers, but they don't exactly have the best depth at the position. Also, don't forget that James Harrison turns 32 in May.

Man, this is just horrible

I never liked this guy. Now I'm rooting for the Jets even more this weekend.

Go Jets !

This is one of the worst music videos I have ever seen in my entire life.

I don't hate Phillip Rivers or any other Charger. I really never hated the Chargers.

Behind the Steel Curtain How can we have 3 NT's on next year's Roster?

If we sign Casey Hampton to a 3 year deal

(Casey said he doesn't want a one year contract, he wants a longer term deal)

And if at the 18th pick of the 1st Round, if the best player available, at a position of need for us, is a NT

Than we should take that NT in my opinion

Problem is we would be left with 3 NT's on the Roster

Casey Hampton

Chris Hoke

And our new 1st Round pick (NT)

?

Behind the Steel Curtain Steelers should trade away their 1st Round pick for a 2nd and a 3rd

Steelers should trade down. They should trade their 1st pick for an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick.

Or whatever the going rate is for an 18th 1st Round pick. I'm not sure exactly what the value is.

They should trade a 4th and 5th for another extra 3rd round pick.

They should look into maybe trading a player for an extra 2nd and/or 3rd round pick

They should try to load up on 2nd and 3rd round picks

And take shots at trying to upgrade these positions: DL, FS, CB, OL and they need a big bruising power running back.

Behind the Steel Curtain Steelers should trade multiple future Draft Picks for some extra picks this year

Everyone knows that Armageddon is coming soon

So what's the use of having Draft picks beyond the year 2020?

Steelers should trade 2 first round draft picks for one extra 1st round draft pick this year

Trade away the 1st round pick of the year 2020 and the 1st round pick of the next year (2021) for one extra 1st Round Draft Pick this year

Do this for like three extra 1st Round Draft picks this year

They should do this to become the team of the Decade of 2010 through 2020

Although I don't think we'll ever make it to the year 2020

I think that Armageddon is Coming

What do you guys think?

Behind the Steel Curtain Inside Info: NT Casey Hampton Won't Be Back !

http://insidepittsburghsports.com

Latest Buzz:

The 32 year old defensive tackle had his best statistical season of his career,
setting career highs in tackles.

Was not offered a contract by the Steelers prior to the 2009 season and has
all intentions of testing free agency.

Due to the potential of an uncapped year and coming off of a pro bowl
season, Hampton will get his last big pay day of his career.

One avenue the Steelers won't explore is franchising Hampton.

Representatives for Hampton have already made it known that the
Pro Bowl DT will hold out.

continued at url...

Also states that Willie Parker won't be back either

wow

So we might go NT in the 1st Round

Unless we can get a Free Agent NT

Behind the Steel Curtain With the 2010 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers Select ...

?

What position will be our 1st NFL Draft pick?

What position will be our 2nd NFL Draft pick?

What do we need?

I'm curious now, on information on this

Offensive Line ?

Cornerback ?

Safety ? (Free Safety)

Do we get a Free Agent Wide Receiver ?

Can we move up in the Draft and get an awesome pick with out 1st pick ?

I'm guessing our 1st pick will be Defense, in the Secondary

An awesome pick in the 1st Round for a Free Safety (a Polamalu-like FS)

CB in the 2nd round maybe

Behind the Steel Curtain I still believe the Steelers will make the Wildcard and win the Super Bowl

That game was a nightmare. Losing at Cleveland was like watching a real life Horror Movie.

I still believe the Steelers will make the Wild Card and win the Super Bowl.

They will now go undefeated and a miracle will get them in the wild card.

The coaching staff must make some lineup changes and play calling changes.

Since the Steelers won the Super Bowl last year, many coaches out there analyzed their game film to see how they did it, and they also game planned against them.

So there must be some new wrinkles added as a counter measure.

Behind the Steel Curtain Lineup Changes Will Equal A Better Pass Defense

These defensive linup changes will equal a better pass defense

Two new rookies will not be starting at CB

William Gay is out for this game with a concussion injury. He’ll be back for the next game.

The other starter at CB is Ike Taylor. He is still the starter.

Deshea Townsend has been demoted to the Dime Defense for this game.

Joe Burnett will be the starter and Keenan Lewis will be the Nickel defensive back.

Deshea Townsend will be playing in the Dime

When William Gay comes back next week, I imagine that Joe Burnett will be the nickel DB and Keenan Lewis will be playing in the Dime

Deshea Townsend will be sitting

S Ryan Mundy was in the game. I’m not sure if he was getting playing time in the Dime Defense only, or what. I would imagine that rookie CB’s Burnett and Lewis are better than a backup Safety, at pass defense.

S Ryan Mundy should be better than the CBs at run support.

Right now, we need pass defense in the nickel and dime packages.

Behind the Steel Curtain The Steelers Will Make the Wildcard and Win the Superbowl [Lineup Changes]

The Steelers Will Make the Wildcard and Win the Superbowl

Joe Burnett will be starting this Thursday at CB for the injured William Gay

Keenan Lewis will be starting in the Nickel ahead of Deshea Townsend

Deshea Townsend will be playing in the Dime, behind Keenan Lewis

Limas Sweed will get playing time behind Mike Wallace for the injured Hines Ward

I am hoping that Keyaron Fox will become the starter ahead of Lawrence Timmons

Ziggy Hood will be getting more playing

Most important, is the secondary. We will need Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis and everyone else back there to start playing much better to be able to beat New Orleans in the Super Bowl

Stephan Logan will return two touchdowns in the Super Bowl

I am excited right now that Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis will start to get more playing time

Behind the Steel Curtain William Gay has "head" injury: Out for Thursday's Game [Breaking News: Joe Burnett Will Start At CB !]

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com

William Gay has "head" injury Posted by Mike Florio on December 7, 2009 4:47 PM ET

During Sunday's game-winning drive by the Raiders in Pittsburgh, Steelers cornerback William Gay took a helmet to the facemask from teammate Ryan Mundy

Gay left the game, and he did not return.

John Czarnecki of FOX reports that Gay has a concussion, and that he won't play Thursday night against the Browns.

On the official injury report for Monday, which estimates the extent to which injured players would have participated in practice if there actually had been practice, Gay is identified as a player who would not have participated in practice, if there had been practice, due to a "head" injury.

Of course, that's the same description that the team used two weeks ago, when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a concussion.

So if we're going to be serious about this whole "concussion" issue, can we finally start requiring the teams to call these concussions what they are?  They're not head injuries or bell-ringings or the seeing of stars or anything other than concussions.

Behind the Steel Curtain Steelers Make Roster Moves, Sign LB Rocky Boiman and CB Corey Ivy

http://www.steelers.com/article/114892/

Steelers make roster moves --- Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Steelers Make Roster Moves, Sign Boiman and Ivy

PITTSBURGH ─ The Steelers today announced the addition of veteran LB Rocky Boiman and CB Corey Ivy to their active roster. Financial terms of the one-year deals were not released.

Boiman (6-4, 242), an eight-year veteran from Notre Dame, was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round (133rd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played with Tennessee from 2002-05 and was in training camp with Tennessee in 2009 before being waived on Sept. 4. Boiman played with the Indianapolis Colts from 2006-07 and with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. He has registered 197 tackles on defense, 1.5 sacks and forced three fumbles during his NFL career. Boiman has also recorded 57 special teams tackles.

Ivy (5-9, 180), a nine-year veteran from Oklahoma, originally signed with the New England Patriots and an undrafted rookie in 1999. He made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ roster in 2001 and played with Buccaneers through 2004. Ivy played in 2005 with the St. Louis Rams and from 2006-08 with the Baltimore Ravens. He was in training camp with the Cleveland Browns in 2009, but was released prior to the regular season. Ivy has recorded 209 tackles, 9.5 sacks and three interceptions during his career. He has registered 96 special teams tackles.

The Steelers also announced the addition of OG Jonathan Palmer to the team’s practice squad. Palmer (6-4, 336) was on the Steelers’ practice squad from December 12 – 26, 2007, and was in training camp in 2009 with the Carolina Panthers. He originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted rookie out of Auburn in 2007.

The Steelers made room on their active roster for Boiman and Ivy by releasing second-year LB Donavan Woods and sixth-year CB Keiwan Ratliff. Ratliff signed with the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent this past May. Woods was recently activated from the Steelers’ practice squad on Nov. 17.

Room was made for Palmer on the Steelers’ practice squad when the team released RB Justin Vincent. Vincent had spent time on the Steelers’ practice squad from 2007-09.

Behind the Steel Curtain Question: Keenan Lewis and Joe Burnett ?

Question:

1 Are Keenan Lewis and Joe Burnett getting any playing time in the nickel or dime packages?

2 How is their development coming along ?

I was hoping that they would be playing in the dime package by the end of the year.

I'm hoping they start playing real good by the time the playoffs start

(if we make the playoffs)

Has anyone noticed if any of them are atleast getting playing time in the Dime Package?

thanks

Steelers promote Redman, release Eason

The fans have gotten their wish as running back Isaac Redman has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game against San Diego.

To make room for Redman on the roster, defensive end Nick Eason was released.

the move means that Willie Parker is out for Sunday's game, which isn't a huge surprise since he didn't practice all week.

How Redman will fit into the running back rotation remains to be seen. But he will likely get a chance in short-yardage.

Behind the Steel Curtain Le Beautiful Defense [New name for this Defense: Named after Dick LeBeau]

I just thought of a new name for this Defense

Le Beautiful Defense (Named after Dick LeBeau]

LeBeau --- Le Beau --- Le Beautiful Defense

Le Beautiful is French for The Beautiful

Le Beautiful Defense --- The Beautiful Defense

Well, I think it's funny, but I don't think it's going to fly

If it were to fly, than Heinz Field would have to serve some French dishes and name it after LeBeau

Behind the Steel Curtain Ryan Mundy might start at Strong Safety this week - Tyrone Carter is injured

http://www.post-gazette.com

Steelers safeties battling injuries
Polamalu and Carter each dinged up
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Perhaps the Steelers might change the name of the position from safety to something else because there just is no safe way to play that post for them these days.

Strong safety? Troy Polamalu and Tyrone Carter looked anything but pictures of strength as they limped around the Steelers' UPMC training facility yesterday. Carter could join Polamalu out of the lineup this week when the Steelers open competition in the AFC North Division at Cincinnati.

Carter came out of the 17-14 loss Sunday in Chicago with a severely bruised left thigh, the result of his thunderous hit on Bears tight end Greg Olsen that left them both shaken. Polamalu will enter the second of his estimated 3-6 weeks on the sideline with a torn left knee MCL.

Next up? The Steelers have some choices. Ryan Mundy is the only other safety listed on the team after free safety Ryan Clark. He could well move into the starting job at strong safety if Carter cannot play. They also have options with two veteran cornerbacks, Deshea Townsend and Keiwan Ratliff. Each can play safety and have practiced there.

Mundy has played in the first two games in some dime defenses, but this is his first season after spending his first year out of WVU on the Steelers' practice squad. If they do not believe he is ready to start, they could put one of their veteran cornerbacks there.

Either way, it has not been a strong start for the Steelers' strong safeties.

Who's with me?

Let's all stop shaving and grow beards until the Steelers get 100 yards or more rushing on the ground

We should also all take an Oath of Celibacy until this happens (100 yards or more rushing) in a game

So we will all end up with full grown beards and the Oath of Celibacy stuff will be tough, but it is not impossible.

We can do it !

Behind the Steel Curtain Dale Lolley is predicting that the Steelers will not make it again this year

http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com

Monday, September 21, 2009

Post-Chicago thoughts

The last time the Steelers played in Chicago - in 1995 - they came back forced overtime, winning at Soldier Field for the only time in team history.

It was a game that proved the 1995 Steelers - a great defensive team - had enough juice offensively to be a Super Bowl contender.

Sunday, we saw the Steelers show why this team – which is great offensively and defensively – might not make it again.

For whatever reason, this team just doesn't seem to be able to keep its foot on the pedal offensively.

The Steelers walked down the field with relative ease on their opening possession and were on their way to a second score when Ben Roethlisberger threw a duck of a pass that was picked off by Charles Tillman.

We didn't see a whole lot of offense after that.

Certainly the rain played a factor in that. But the Steelers played plenty of games in horrid conditions last season.

I know Roethlisberger likes leading the Steelers on fourth quarter game-winning drives and the team has plenty of confidence in him doing that, but it's OK to win by 20 sometimes too.

© From the number of e-mails I received this week about my pick of the Bears to win this game, I guess there were a good number of people who didn't believe me when I wrote that the Steelers would have a more difficult time replacing Troy Polamalu than Chicago would replacing Brian Urlacher.

After watching Polamalu's replacement, Tyrone Cater, get beat for both Chicago touchdowns, I wonder if they believe me now.

© Cincinnati went to Green Bay and won on Sunday, making next week's game against the Steelers at Paul Brown Stadium a big one.

The winner will move to 2-1 and keep pace with Baltimore.

The loser will be 1-2 and trailing the other and Baltimore.

Trust me when I say that the Steelers can lose that game as well.

Again it involved a female co-worker.

Apparently, he was fired years ago from ESPN for sending nude pictures of himself to several female anchors at ESPN

Funny stuff.

Unbelievable

This dude is a prick.

He was very annoying at ESPN. He would try to bully other anchors, as I remember.

Behind the Steel Curtain Jerome Bettis writes negative article about the Steelers O-Line!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com

Bettis gets blunt about the Steelers

Posted by Mike Florio on September 14, 2009 11:07 PM ET

Jerome Bettis, whose NBC gig ended after the 2008 season, is now writing for SI.com.

And his debut column will raise some eyebrows in the 'Burgh.

Bettis explains -- accurately, we might add -- that the biggest flaw with the Steelers is their offensive line.

"This problem isn't anything new," Bettis says, "and I blame the coaching staff for not addressing the line in the offseason.  How did they rationalize not doing anything about it?  Well, they won a Super Bowl.  They won't be so lucky twice in a row.  If Ben [Roethlisberger] continues to get hit the way he did Thursday -- the same way he did last year, then this will come back to haunt the Steelers.  Ben will get hurt.  Ben will miss games.  And they don't have a line to run behind without Ben.  Pittsburgh can't repeat with the line playing like this."

Bettis also echoes our recent item regarding the possibility that Mewelde Moore will leapfrog Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall on the depth chart.

continued...

Here's an Excerpt from his article: Page 2

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com

3. One more reason Pittsburgh's in trouble: these Steelers are a mediocre running team on their best day. I don't think they've reached a panic situation quite yet because the Titans don't allow anyone to run the football on them. But there are serious problems.

Willie Parker: I haven't seen much from him. Rashard Mendenhall: I haven't really seen him, period. One thing I have seen is Mewelde Moore making plays. And I think the little guy's going to get more of those opportunities as the Steelers continue to grow into what I think will be more of a passing team in 2009.

The running back I like least on that team is Frank Summers, the rookie fullback. He doesn't seem to understand what's going on. He's missing plenty of blocks, and that's affecting everything. That definitely has to be addressed off the field this week.

The bigger problem, though, is the offensive line. They have no continuity. On top of not being able to protect Ben Roethlisberger, they're letting running backs get hit before they reach the line of scrimmage. There's not a lot any back can do in that situation.

This problem isn't anything new, and I blame the coaching staff for not addressing the line in the offseason. How did they rationalize not doing anything about it? Well, they won a Super Bowl. They won't be so lucky twice in a row. If Ben continues to get hit the way he did Thursday -- the same way he did last year, then this will come back to haunt the Steelers. Ben will get hurt. Ben will miss games. And they don't have a line to run behind without Ben. Pittsburgh can't repeat with the line playing like this.

Behind the Steel Curtain The hit on Polamalu's knee was dirty. It was on purpose

I think that Titans Alge Crumpler landed on Polamalu's knee on purpose.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this.

He landed on his knee on purpose, he was aiming for his knee. He knew exactly what he was doing.

It was not an accident. It was on purpose.

Behind the Steel Curtain Keyshawn Johnson called Joe Flacco a bum? Why?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com

Ravens offense explodes, on and off the field Posted by Mike Florio on September 14, 2009 9:08 AM ET

Excerpt:

According to Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, the Ravens didn't take kindly to remarks from Keyshawn Johnson and Cris Carter in a recent conference call, during which Johnson at one point said of quarterback Joe Flacco, "You want a bum, you pay a bum."

Keyshawn Johnson is the bum, that's why he's in the analyst seat," receiver Derrick Mason told Freeman.  "He tried to come back to football but no one would sign him.  He was never that good a player.  He got lucky and signed on in Tampa Bay and won a Super Bowl because they had a great defense.

"Just look at the two people doing the criticizing, that's all I'm saying.  Keyshawn was overrated and Carter is in the same boat I'm in.  He doesn't have a Super Bowl ring either.  He's in the analyst seat without a ring.  At least I'm playing.  He still wants to play but he can't anymore.  We're the bums?  That's why you're in the analyst seat.  Just be quiet and keep dreaming you still could play."

(Mason really needs to come out of his shell.)
