I have a lot of varied interests, I've been a fan of MMA for quite a while now, with an interest in world class kickboxing recently. Of course anyone that knows me knows I have a special interest in Badr Hari's kickboxing, but that's another story. I don't watch tons of other sports with the exception of some horseracing and Oklahoma State University athletics of all sorts.

Gals Guide To MMA It's Fedor, Where's the Loyalty People?

Fedor_emelianenko_m-1_entourage_medium

What's the deal with everyone hating on Fedor, first Dana and now Schiavello? This is ridiculous people. Fedor is great, he's the Last Emperor for god's sake. Not much has changed really except he's suffered a few losses, but all of the great ones have. He's got skills, undeniable skills at that. He has great submissions and a knock out punch that rivals if not equals that of Dan Henderson and no one's hating on Hendo right now. And the Last Emperor may well be the last hold out to the giant machine that is the UFC. You gotta give him credit for that.
The whole bus fiasco? If you roll with freaking Rasputin in your posse things are gonna happen. You've got to expect the unexpected. With all those fighters and folks on a bus there is no telling how many spells, evil eyes, and what not are flying around. You just can't take that kind of chances. Like I said, where's the loyalty? I for one am down with the Emperor.
But then again, I've been a jugalette since '92.

Gals Guide To MMA Keith Jardine is Still a Great Fighter but Let's Call Central Casting

Keithjardinesoa_medium

There come's a time in every fighter's career that questions whether or not a fighter needs to retire. Usually it's Dana White who brings this up, and usually before the fight is even over. It's not really that the fighter is too old, has lost too many times or been knocked out way more than can be safe, I think it's more the case of this fighter is needed somewhere else more desperately. When that's happens, it's time to call central casting.

After last season's action on Son's of Anarchy, there seems to be a dearth of good Sons. Who better to fill one of these vacancies, than Keith Jardine? He can just slide right in there go to make up for his Samcro tat, grab his cut, hop on his hog and help out this show with what it needs most. Besides it appears that Gemma may be seeking a new man in her life and who better to play Ashton to her Demi than the Dean of Mean himself.

Face it, you know it, I know it, we all know it, Keith was born to play this part. Let him.

We will miss our own personal techno viking, but that was just a you tube gig at best.

Wake up over there at central casting.

Gals Guide To MMA Keys to Jon Jones' Success

A lot has been said about Jon Jones recently, especially since his dramatic defeat of Lyoto Machida. Some has been good and some not so good and a lot about how he arrived where he is and how long he will remain champ. It's undeniable that Jones has athleticism with a great wrestling base and a tool box of skills that's ever expanding. But the elephant in the room is Jon Jones' extraordinary reach of 84.5 inches. I've been doing my homework and have yet to find a fighter with a reach that long. Sonny Liston's 84 inches is a close as I've come. Fighters like Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve, Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, Semmy "Hightower" Schilt, and the "Korean Monster" Hong Man Choi, don't even have a reach like that and they are all heavyweight fighters. It's doubtful that any of those could or would leave the heavyweight class. So do I think Jones' reach is the key to his success? No, no, I don't. It was the great commentator, Joe Rogan, himself who called attention to as he put it, Jon Jones, "comically thin legs." And there lies his advantage. It's quite possible if Jones had legs with normal muscle mass and weight it could, along with his height and maturing body put him in the heavyweight class. There after going a few rounds with say, Brock Lesnar who has an 83 inch reach, it is unlikely that the young champ would feel like appearing on the Jimmy Kimmel show. But in spite of his walkout and ring antics and nonchallant attitude which I hope will pass, I still love the kid, skinny legs and all.

Gals Guide To MMA Anastrophe, Bill and Joe, stopped this must be.

anastophe: noun rhetoric, inversion of the usual order of words
This is more of a comment than a full fledged post. But is this whole anastrophe thing that Goldberg and Joe are engaging in annoying to just me? I watch a lot of fighting and spend more money watching UFC, and this is driving me crazy.I'm almost positvie that they haven't always done this, why now? Fellas, Yoda, are you not.

Gals Guide To MMA No, I am not stalking Badr Hari.

Which is not to say, that if my passport was in order I certainly would be at all of his fights that I could. I mean I wouldn't break into his house and wear his clothes and lay in his bed or anything like that but I sure as heck would be at the fights. Here is Badr's fight from last night. I love his fighting style. He's a powerful striker and victory is usally just a knockout away. No I do not want to hear about New Year's Eve and that's that.

Gals Guide To MMA Lawler or Manhoef, what do you think?

Robbie-melvin_medium

via lh3.ggpht.com

Here I am on the the horns of a dilemma. This whole Robbie Lawler vs Melvin Manhoef fight has me very intrigued. Usually I am quite prejudiced in every fight. Now that I've learned to appreciate MMA and have learned more about it, I almost always have a favorite or someone I really dislike in each fight. So deciding who to pull for is easy. But if they are relatively unknown to me. I will have to decide based on their fighting style, or what can be discerned of their personality. Then if that fails I choose the guy with the regular shorts instead of tight shorts. That's the reason I'm almost always against Mirko Cro Cop and Roger Huerta, though I have seen El Matador wearing regular shorts lately. Then there is the whole tattoo thing. I don't hate tattoos at all, but I will usually choose the guys with the least amount of tats. But the more I know about fighting and the fighters I do have my favorites. I like Robbie Lawler, his hard hitting fast paced style is always exciting. The same can be said for Melvin Manhoef. Of course Melvin does have the goofy gladiator skirt thing which I find hard to stomach. Except for the time that Russell Crowe wore one in Gladiator but that was a lifetime ago. Anyway, all of my weird idiosyncrasies aside, I think this will be a great fight. Though if Robbie Lawler really means what he says and intends to "stand and bang" with Melvin this could be a short fight. Melvin has fought and won against some really big competitors and that style of fight would play to his strengths. We'll see.
