probable roster
I would keep Melky, if for no other reason but that Johnny Damon may well move on next year. This is his walk year. Next year the Yanks may need both Melky and Gardner. Even now Melky can take over left field for defensive purposes (especially his arm!) when the Yanks have a late lead. Damon is decent defensively except for the throwing arm. Also, who is the CF reserve if Gardner is injured? Swisher? I think he is a good reserve for 1B and RF and possibly a part-time player (or full-time if the Yanks trade Nady in a major trade) but I want a better defender in CF especially when leading. It is far too soon to give up on Melky. If we need Inge or someone else for 3B until A-Rod heals, then we have a surplus of RH relievers from which to trade. More likely, the Yanks will stand pat.
