Would be nice to be able to take a flyer on someone like him, though there's no room for him on the big club. Should we try to pick him up in hopes that a new environment (and Ron Wilson) eliminates his defensive problems? If so, who would he push down the ladder?

Part of me thinks we should pick him up, use him as the 13th forward (or sub-in 4th liner) until we know exactly what he can bring. Then either demote him (and risk losing him ourselves), or see if he develops into what he was supposed to once upon a time.

I'd rather take a chance on him than say Mayers. Thoughts? Yay or nay?

The Rangers' Sean Avery won a settlement in his libel case against Toronto radio reporter Howard Berger following mediation earlier this month, Slap Shots has learned. The suit was brought in the aftermath of the pregame incident in Toronto on Nov. 10, 2007, after which Berger alleged that Avery had made comments to Jason Blake relating to the Leaf winger's previously diagnosed cancer. Terms of the settlement are confidential. Avery has at least one more pending suit relating to the incident.

Does this make anyone else smile?

Toronto Maple Leafs' Top Prospects

This will probably be part of the FTB, but I'm up late and an eager beaver so here it is. Hockey Futures isn't always the most reliable, but what this does show is we are starting to get some organizational depth. The importance of that should not be underestimated.

I look forward to seeing many of these guys in the lineup in years to come.

While at least a good man won, I still think starving students like myself are more deserving. Though I'm too poor to play.

Sources also told Tedesco that George Gillett, the outgoing owner of the Montreal Canadiens, hammered Balsillie for telling a French-language newspaper in November of last year that the Canadiens were for sale, claiming that Balsillie's comments destabilized the franchise and directly contributed to Montreal's failure in the playoffs.
