What kind of fan am I? Harry led me to the Cubs when I was a baby. Here is an entry my mother made in my baby book: "At 2 months and 3 weeks old the only place Erin wants to lay is on her back on a blanket in front of the TV. She loves listening to Harry Caray and watching baseball on TV." Still true 32 years later....

a fan of

I wasn't daring enough to drive 40 minutes in -30 degree weather to attend this event last night. I did find an article about it though if you are bored and not able to attend the convention like me.

Here's my BCB shirt pic from the game on 091908. It was a beautiful and perfect day for a game even if the Cubs lost. It's ok since they clinched it the next day. I added some of my other pics to the BCB flickr group.
I also learned that Z drives the sweet black lamborghini that was parked next to the ballpark. Don't ask, just trust me.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Scrappiness is...

So I was skimming VEB because well, I had to find a way to stay awake for another hour at work, and found them enjoying this evil BCB post-

http://www.brewcrewball.com/2008/7/8/567604/the-unified-theory-of-grit

It appears to be similar to what we refer to here as Scrappiness. I know it has been discussed extensively and there are many examples of scrappy play, but we have never taken the time to really outline what scrappiness is. Thought this would help us forget this craptastic return to playing ball after the All Star Break and have some fun.

Young and Bard were wiped out in the same inning by Pujols last night. I don't usually have anything complimentary to say about Pujols, but he seemed genuinely shaken up and concerned. He even seemed to be saying a little prayer for Young while he was surronded by trainers etc on the ground. Both injuries were very gruesome. Watch at your own descretion.

Ok, so I am not usually this childish, but I felt compelled to post this pic in retaliation for the pic posted by a moran at VEB.

A friend of mine sent this to me and I thought it was worth sharing. On the Phillies blog they started a list comparing teams to bands. The Cubs one is kind of painfully true and the Cards one even more so. Enjoy!

Bleed Cubbie Blue Cubs Club 2008

I haven't seen a diary regarding The Cubs Club yet for this year, so I thought I would bring it up. What did everyone think of it? Did you find it to be a good deal? Are you going to join again this year?

I did join it last year and was happy with it. I really enjoyed listening on GameDay Audio to the games I couldn't watch. I figured why not spend the extra four bucks and get the nifty card and e mails too. There were some good ticket offers throughout the season and cooler wallpapers etc. I thought maybe they would be promoting it more seeing as the season is growing nearer, but I had to search fot it under fan forum on Cubs.com. I think I will probably join again this year.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Ultimate 7th Inning Stretch Competition

I am curious if anyone else entered this contest on Cubs.com. It's hard to find the link to it now because they moved it off the front page of the website, but you can find it under sweepstakes. It's the chance for a fan to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame at the September 22nd game.

I got an e mail on Thursday stating that I had been picked to audition! I am so excited I can't sleep at night and I sing it nonstop! I am guessing there are hundreds of people that are receiving the same opprotunity. Anyone on BCB get an e mail yet?

This is Super cool! What an awesome once in a life time chance to honor Harry, the Cubs, and Wrigley! And this is why I am more than happy to make the three hour trip from Canton, IL.

They say the parking lot 2 blocks north of Wrigley will be open free for participants in the contest this coming Thurs and Fri. My question for all you Chicago natives is how hard is it to manuever around Wrigley on a day with no ball game? I have to be there by 2pm to check in. I am contemplating just driving all the way in instead of doing a park and ride deal with the train.

I have a good idea of how I am going to approach the singing, but if anyone has an idea for how to make my presentation pop, please pass it on to me. It says no props or instruments, so keep that in mind as well. Thanks and wish me luck!

Bleed Cubbie Blue Comentary from my local paper

It's about Ryne Sandberg's Hall of Fame induction speech. It makes a good point about the lack of respect for baseball and in society as well. It points out that we as adults are responsible for teaching kids respect. Thought it was pretty good.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Lasorda's stretch

How rude was it for him to say we are the 2nd best fans in the world in our ball park and then say Dodgers instead of Cubbies?!?!?
I threw my bad play brick at the TV. Good thing it is made of styrofoam.
He was surely making a funny of some sort, but his tone of voice and demeanor didn't portray it. Just wanted to vent about it.

Bleed Cubbie Blue Hello everybody...

I have been reading this blog for a a few weeks now and have found the insights and feelings of my fellow Cub fans very entertaining and intelligent.

I have found that some of you follow the statistics and inner working of the Cubs more closely than I do. I have learned a lot more about the minors through this blog as well. I sure do love the game and know the team and basics as well as any loyal Cub fan should.

And let me tell ya, it does this west central Illinoian's heart good to see the Cubs spank the Cards. I live almost exactly half way between Chicago and St. Louis. My family is about 40% Cards fans 60% Cubs fans. There is always a friendly banter about who should be the MVP etc.
Well, it was friendly until I sent my brother, a big time Cards fan, a text message last Thursday saying "Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win!"
Use your imagination about what I got in return:-)

In closing, I leave you with an entry my mother made in my baby book: "At 2 months and 3 weeks old the only place Erin wants to lay is on her back on a blanket in front of the TV. She loves listening to Harry Caray and watching baseball on TV."
Still true 27 years later.
