What precipitates a coaching change?
Looking back in Texas football history, the Longhorns have had coaching changes at Royal (5 losses) to Akers, 1976; Akers (6 losses) to McWilliams, 1986; McWilliams (6 losses) to Mackovic, 1991; Mackovic (7 losses) to Brown, 1997. While most would argue that Royal retired under his own terms, would he have retired if his team had been unbeaten in 1976? It seems to me that the Longhorns have the near ideal infrastructure...excellent facilities, large and wealthy fanbase, superb history and stellar recruiting classes for several years in a row. Yet, in Coach Brown we seem to have a "fatigued" leader. Even in victory (over Nebraska), there seemed to be few smiles. As with Coach Urban Meyer (briefly), the cost of avoiding a "disappointing" season, may become too great to bear. While we may be years away from a coaching change, the clouds do seem to be forming on the horizon.
Reggie Bush loses Heisman

It looks like they aren't planning to give the Heisman to Vince. Just leave a vacancy for that year. This was a long time in coming. Vince proved his point in the NC game. Yahoo Sports has been on this story for over 2 years and it seemed it was just a matter of time. The sad part is all of the lost recognition that Vince so richly deserved in 2005. Too bad they won't award him the Heisman.
