I'm a Project Manager for a software company in Central Illinois... I've only been watching the Cubs since '01 so I've been lucky to see some good years, and unfortunate to see most of the bad ones.

Ramirez to Rehab in Peoria This Weekend
Just saw this in my email, looks like he'll be starting Saturday and Sunday down in Peoria. Good to see him getting eased back in, instead of just stuck back at 3rd with the big club.
OT: Rangers Upset about Series Loss to Cubs, Declare Bankruptcy
Well, maybe not directly, but they filed today. Looks like this is just a step in selling the team to Nolan Ryan and his group - very similar to what TribCo did with the Cubs.
MLB Daily Dish 2010 Cubs Projections
Daily Dish has finally gotten around to posting the Cubs projections... it looks like they're a little under what the BCB community projected, but they look pretty good. Four hitters with 20+ home runs would be nice. I think their W/L on pitchers is a little low in some cases (they're saying most of our pitchers will be just over .500) but the ERA's look good. Take a peek if you're interested.
Make $1 Million Playing MLB 2K10
So 2K Sports (in a sad effort to sell their inferior video game) is offering $1,000,000 to the first player to throw a perfect game. They're touting their new pitching system as the most realistic ever, and saying pitching a perfect game in their game will be as difficult as the real thing. Maybe they should have given the money away to the first unassisted triple play? My prediction: this happens within an hour of the game being released, there's a huge fight because multiple players accomplished it (I'd guess over 100) and the retract the whole thing.
MLB2K10 has finally removed that ridiculous in-stadium advertising they put in their forgettable 2K9 title. Honestly, the 2K games are nothing compared the the "The Show" titles, but I made the post last year when they added this advertising, so I wanted to follow up on it. It was dumb to put it in, and now they're saving some face but "The Show" is still a superior game.

OT: Bears DE Gaines Adams Dead at 26
Just in case you hadn't heard, Bears DE Gaines Adams was found dead at 26 this morning. Very, very sad. Link to our friends over at Windy City Gridiron.
This is extremely off topic, but just wanted to give everyone a warning about this new "Big Hardee" sandwich Hardee's came out with to compete with the Big Mac. A coworker of mine got one today, and I had to take a picture next to the web ad for it. I love marketing (I am a marketing manager) but this is just pathetic. Stay away.
Peavy to Chicago... Again
Just the wrong side of town...
SI's Jon Heyman is reporting Jake Peavy traded to White Sox for minor leaguers... you've got to be kidding me.
My Thoughts on the First Half
Hello,
How about that first half? I guess that’s why they call it Chicago! (hahaha)

Ramirez to Rehab with Peoria
It looks like the Chief's have found a (temporary) replacement for John Vitters. I just got an email from the Chiefs and confirmed it on their site. Starting with Friday's game, Aramis Ramirez will begin his rehab assignment in Peoria. According to the Chiefs, he will play in Friday, Saturday and Sunday's games.
Very good news for the crushed Peoria fans who recently lost Josh Vitters with his promotion to Daytona.
Former Cub Mel Hall Sentenced to 45 Years
I had no idea this was even going on, but Mel Hall was convicted of Statutory Rape and sentenced to 45 years behind bars for the rape of a 12-year-old girl whom who coached on a basketball team in Texas.
Hall played for the Cubs from 1981-1984, and retired in 1996 with 134 career home runs, and ranks 484 on the all-time Home Runs list.. The accusations came out in 1999, and there was apparently another victim involved, however she withdrew her claim. Hall will serve a minimum of 22 1/2 years before he is eligible for parole. I'm sure there will be an appeal.
Lillyisms
With Ted Lilly starting our next game after the off day, and the fact we've had a hellaciously frustrating run of a few extra-inning games... I thought I'd lighten things up a bit, and give us all a reason to hit BCB over the next 2 days.

Overflow Thread 4: Cubs vs. Reds, Sunday 6/7, 12:10 CT
Emergency Overflow Thread... this game may never end.
First Bradley, Now Lilly
This is nuts. I didn't see the incident, and can't find any video (anybody have it...?), but this "he said, she said" crap between players and umps needs to stop. Why can't they just handle this stuff behind closed doors where it belongs? If I went around my place of business talking all sorts of crap about my fellow employees I'd probably just get terminated... but these umps and players just seem to run their mouths for fun. I don't know who's in the right here, but either way it's kind of sad and it's just going to end up getting Lilly suspended...
Rick Telander is an Asshat
So apparently this idiot wrote and article saying Theriot doesn't use steroids... disproving accusations of approximately no one, only to increase his own popularity. In his article, Telander uses Theriot as an example of how no one is immune to the accusations of steroid use. I'm sorry, but if you're writing an article talking about how no one is safe... WHY WOULD YOU BLINDLY ACCUSE someone? Idiot. Go away.
Ken Macha Wants "Probe" of Dempster
Is this guy serious? First of all, that pitch didn't even hit Braun, and then Braun decided it was a good idea to stare at Demps all the way down first. Maybe they should probe Braun's showboating after home runs?
"The league frowns on people throwing at people's heads," Macha told reporters this morning. "I don't know if Bob Watson has looked at it or not. But I don't think that's a good idea, throwing at people's heads."
Don't forget that Theriot was drilled later in the game... if Macha wants Watson to look at this game, and the incidents that followed, he should be prepared for action to be taken for retribution. That's all I have to say about this. What a tool.

Bobby Scales' Blog
I'm not sure how much he updates it, and it appears to only have 2 posts, but the post from April 23rd has some great insight to what it's like to travel with the AAA team... AND it has a fantastic title: "30 is the new 20."
Zambrano to DL, Scales called up
Looks like Z is on his way to the 15-day DL and Bobby Scales (IF, Switch Hitter) is on his way up from Iowa. I would imagine Heilman or The Shark will get a start or two.

WCIU in Central Illinois?
With the abundance of WCIU games as of late, I was wondering if anyone knows a good spot in the Peoria-area to watch the Cubs games? All the Buffalo Wild Wings don't carry the games, and/or they're blacked out on Extra Innings. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I know the Ruby Tuesday in Bloomington/Normal on Veterans Pkwy used to carry the WCIU games when I was at ISU, but I don't even know if that's still open and I'm not going to drive 45 minutes to watch the game!
OT: John Madden Reitres
Well that's one blow-hard down... Joe Morgan, John Miller... TAKE THE HINT.
Pirates Really Struggling... Stealing Babies
You know your team is really in trouble when your top prospects are involved in baby snatching stories. Looks like one of the Pirates top prospects wives was accused of stealing a 2-month old child. Here's the fun parts, Jose Tabata, who is 20 years old, is married to Amalia Tabata... who is 43!!!! Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Soriano NOT Batting Lead Off?
According to an article on chicagosports.com, Lou is thinking about moving Soriano out of the lead off spot. Followed, of course, by the usual Pinella bush beating-around...
“You know, I’m not going to throw out the possibility of throwing Soriano in on that mix either,” he said. “We’ll see how it works out… We can play around with that a little this spring.”
The article can be read here. Please note it is Paul Sullivan, so read with your usual grain of salt handy.
Advertising in Games... how sad. Apparently in the MLB 2K9 series of games, State Farm (among others) will be posting not-so-realistic advertising in game. This is what they did to Wrigley... what an abomination. See article here
The Pulse: DeRo Interviews Dempster
Abslutely hilarious, but very very cool read... my favorite part...
DEROSA: I'm going to set a scene for you: Kerry Wood on the mound, Game 7 of the World Series in Wrigley Field. Ground ball to second, DeRosa throws it to D-Lee, game over, Cubs are World Series champs. What happens?
DEMPSTER: Pandemonium. I'd say the top of the Budweiser building blows off. People storm the field. Huge chunks of ivy are ripped off the walls. Police cars are turned over on Addison, on Waveland, on Sheffield, and you can't walk within a 45-block radius of Wrigley Field because people will be drinking there for seven to 10 days. What a great feeling.

2008 All-Star Game Overflow Thread 2

Joe Morgan Hatefest: Continued!
I was on Rotoworld this morning to see whose arms had fallen off overnight and who I needed to pick up for the handful of fantasy games this week, and I happened to notice a very interesting article at the top of their page... the article was titled, "Joe Morgan's classic geezer mistake." Like a kid seeing boobs on the internet for the first time, I immediately clicked the link.
Apparently NBC Sports has deemed Joe Morgan their "Whiner of the Week" for some rant he had saying how today's generation of players have no respect for the All Star game, and that ratings used to be higher because they left the starters in the whole game...
What a moron. Maybe they left the starters in, because ONLY STARTERS WENT??? Come on Joe, just retire... you've had enough of this... not only are you making up phony names for the basket at Wrigley, but now you're posthumously expanding the All-Star rosters of yore... just hang it up man, you've had a good run... but it's time to sit in a rocking chair and complain about the kids and their rap music.

Eric Patterson Interview on 670 The Score
Awesome interview from Sunday morning's Hit and Run program on the score with Eric Patterson. EP discusses his journey to the majors, comparisons to his brother (talking about who is actually faster) as well as his 3-4 performance on Saturday.
ESPN's Cubs Fan Dictionary
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=schoenfield/080620&sportCat=mlb
I just read this article over on ESPN... well, it's not so much an article as a "guide to being a better Cubs fan." Some of the stuff in there is pretty funny. Especially this one...
"Prior, Mark 1. pitcher, 2002-06 2. thanks, Dusty"
I'm pretty sure this is written tongue in cheek (I've read this guy before, he's usually funny) but it does sort of show you what the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network thinks about the team and our great fans...
BCB Meetup? Peoria, IL - Friday June 20
Cubbies play an afternoon game against the White Sox, and the Cheifs are playing at 6:30 PM against the Beloit Snappers.
I'm not sure how many of you are within easy driving distance of Peoria, but it'd be nice to get a couple people together for that Friday night game. Club box tickets are only $10 and usually pretty available even up to game time. If we can get enough of a group I can talk to one of the guys I know who works for the Cheifs and see if we can't get a nice little discount.
Anyone who is interested, shoot me an email (listed in my BCB profile) or just comment below and hopefully I'll see a few of you out there!
