Card Chronicle Any Van Treese Update?

Have there been any updates regarding his injury.  I know it was a knee injury but I dont think it has been said yet which knee.  Any indication what the injury actually was (sprain / tear).  Any word on how it happened.  I really would like to see him back prior to February play.  He could provide a valuable backup to Rock or Dieng if they were to get in foul trouble.  Plus, he's just a guy who hustles from start to finish and you gotta love having that type guy on the floor.

Card Chronicle Any new injury updates?

So have there been any new updates regarding the injury situation?   We got VanTreese back which was awesome, and I assume since Siva was warming up against Butler he will be back for the next game.  I know Marra is out for the season but what about Rock and WB.  I have heard that Rock is currently working on individual instruction but don't think I have heard a firm date as to a return. Any new updates WB's shoulder?  Any anticipated return date or is it still up in the air?  Also is KW's return still Dec 14th???  Slowly we seem to be getting everyone back.... Slowly

Card Chronicle Tonights Red / White game

Anyone take in tonights red/white scrimmage?   It was my first time in the YUM center and have to say the place is

awesome.  Since it wasn't nearly half full I bounced around from lower level to mid to upper level just to get a view

from all perspectives.  There really is not a bad seat in the house.  I will say that the nose bleed seats are rightfully

named.  If you are at the very top seats looking down you realize its a LONG way down..

My thoughts on the game are as follows.

Chan is a beast

Justice played really well IMO but just didn't have a lot of his shots fall.

Swops shot seemed to be off but he hit the boards really well.   May not start but will be an asset.

The beer is really overpriced.

The Lady Birds make me happy in pants.

Good day in my opinion

Card Chronicle Okay someone help me understand this conference re-alignment BS

Okay someone help me understand what the ACC is doing and why.

I get that a conference wants to gain as much market share as possible.  Of course the better the market the more TV viewers which means better paying contracts.  I get all that... So the Pitt and Cuse additions to me make sense for them. They are both east coast which is in line with the ACC and provide great basketball tradition and comparable football programs.   Looks like a win win for the ACC.

My issue lies in the latest news of Rutgers possibly making the jump.  Why in the world would the ACC want Rutgers.  If they are trying to gain the entire ease coast they pretty much do that with the additions of Pitt, Cuse, and Uconn.  Rutgers from my understanding really doesn't offer much of a gain as far as market.  Its almost like the argument that the SEC wont want LVL as they already have the KY market sewn up by having UK.  I understand that....

So this leaves the ACC needing one additional team. Why in the world would they not want Louisville.  It would provide another basketball power which fits in perfectly with the current lineup.  It also provides a very comparable football program.  It would also get them into the KY market which I would think is equal if not better than any of their current programs.

What am I not understanding ?????

Card Chronicle Bruce Pearl now VP of Tenn company

Well I sure didn't see this coming.  The guy is canned by Tenn for NCAA infractions and is immediately hired as the VP of a 4 billion dollar company... WOW I sure wish I had this kind of luck.  I imagine hes probably not making the same cheddar but i'm sure hes not going hungry either.  Bruce Pearl VP

I guess it goes to show its not what you know its who you know.

Card Chronicle Bruce Pearl... 3 year show cause

Well it looks like the hammer was dropped...   I'm glad that they are moving to now hold the coaches accountable for their actions however I think it still leaves a lot to be desired.  I for one want the coach to be accountable for the actions of their staff.  It would be way too easy for a coach to send his assistants out to do the dirty work which I feel is already happening in other programs.  3 year show cause

Card Chronicle Coaching replacement

NO NO NO im not calling for CRP's replacement.   Im curious as to the way in which he will be replaced when he decides to hang it up.

He has said many times that hes got 4-5 years left and has even stated who he would suggest to replace him when the time comes.  My personal opinion is that if the upcoming recruiting classes pan out and he is given an opportunity to go out on top he will do so.  So my guess is that he will probably put in another 5 years and call it quits.  Its been a good ride and im thankful we had the opportunity.

So my question is would it be possible to bring in a coach in waiting and make it known?  I really like Brad Stevens so ill just use him as an example.   Lets say we are 3 years down the road and CRP decides hes done.   Could he bring Stevens in as a direct assistant and make it known Stevens is the coach who will take over for him in a year or so.   This way the upcoming recruits could feel more comfortable knowing that even if CRP does retire that the coach in waiting is someone they are comfortable with.

In my mind this serves a couple purposes.   It gives Stevens or whomever a chance to learn from CRP and the ins and outs of Louisville Basketball.  It also helps to eliminate that  servere 1-2 year dead period when a new coach takes over and is bringing in his staff and recruits.

Im sure there may be some money issues and other problems I havent even thought about.  I still wanted to throw the idea out there and see what others thought.

Card Chronicle College recruiting

Okay so I guess I'm totally lost at this point.   Can someone please fill me in on the process of college recruiting?

With Tim fuller leaving after what was the start of a great recruiting run we seem to be seeing the fallout.  The recent news of Tony Woods opening up offers and Kevin Wares possible desire to play at UCF has me wondering... What in the heck do recruiters do anyway???

I was under the impression it was the recruiters job to approach these kids with the possibility of playing for the University of Louisville.  Then it was a matter of educating them on the number of reasons why it would be beneficial for them to play here.  ( CRP, NBA future, Education, Facilities, Yum Center, National Exposure etc).  So with that said what has these kids so obsessed with Tim Fuller that they are no longer a firm commit to the program with him gone????

Now I understand there is a lot more to this whole equation than just educating players on the benefits of playing for Louisville.   I'm sure Tim Fuller is an exceptional "Sales" guy and relates with the kids well.    It still however doesn't explain what seems to be an infatuation that the kids have with him....

To be honest the thought has been going through my mind that maybe Fuller has gone back and told these guys that there could be better options.  Now I'm not sure what benefit that would be for him however I really cant figure out why the kids would be so worked up over him leaving.  Are we sure there are no hard feelings or something that happened behind the scenes to cause Fuller to want to leave?  Hence leaving him with the desire to stab LVL in the back.   I have absolutly no proof of that im just thinking out loud.

As others have said.... Recruiting is creepy.

Card Chronicle New format to the NCAA championship?

So I was thinking to myself last night that it really sucks LVL is no longer in the tournament.  Especially since I still believe they are just as good as anyone still left in the field.  So I was thinking about a possible change to the tournament bracket situation...

What if instead of the now 68 team field that they went with either a top 32 or 16 team scenerio.  There would no longer be any automatic bids and all teams would be judged upon entire body of work.

Now the BIGGEST change that I propose is to go with a double elimination scenerio..... No longer is it a lose and go home tournament.  You have to be beaten twice before you pack your bags and jump on the plane.   I have been involved in some sports which has this type of setup and it always ended with great finishes and lasting excitement.

Now I havent totally thought through the logistics of this, and im sure there are some issues which would need to be overcame.   I just wanted to get some other opinions to see if there would be a way to setup something similar.

Its ashame as I liked watching his teams play.. He accomplished a lot during his short time at UT.....

I cant remember what the article said he was paid in order to leave but it was something like 1.5 - 2.0 M.....   I was let go about 6 months ago from my job... Sure wish I had been given that much just to take a hike..

He will make someone else a good coach and hopefully he learns not to dance the line again

Card Chronicle A new coach?????

LOL

No no no before you jump on my back and call me a traitor im not calling for a new coach due to the recent loss... Im more curious about something.

If CRP were to pop up today and say " Im done with coaching"  ( which isnt happening )

Who would you pick as a replacement ????????

Off the top of my head I like Stevens from Butler... I love his attitude and the way he coaches... I like Travis Ford... Izzo.... Lavin. etc etc....

Who would you pick...

Lets face it... CRP has only a few more years left and hes out...  Hes not a spring chicken and an end will eventually come... when it does it will most likely be to someone we are all watching on these NCAA weekends.. Who do you think it will be...

Maybe his son Richard?????

Card Chronicle Prestons Future

Does anyone know what Preston is planning???????   I assume he will try out for the NBA....   Doubt he will make it but probably gets to play over seas.

I didnt know if he had discussed what he was planning?  Thought he may be looking at coaching.

I hope that one way or the other he gets to make some $$ doing what he loves to do.

Also has anyone heard exactly what was wrong with his foot.  I heard people say it was something wrong in his foot.. I heard it was his toe.... I heard it was a combination.  Any idea?????

Card Chronicle Rally around the Big East

With U of L and St. Johns both going down today everyone needs to rally around the Big East.  Over the past several years the Big East hasent exactly had a great showing in the big dance.   We really need some teams to go FAR this year and prove that the Big East is the toughest conference in play.

So come one come all lets root for whatever BE team is playing...

Go Big East

Card Chronicle Boom!!!!! Arkansas just beat the kitties in OT

That should pretty much knock them out of the top 25...  Looks like the Hogs are back.... Or at least competitive with UK...

What does the rest of the UK schedule look like?   I cant remember but for some reason I feel like it gets pretty tough from here on out.   Kinda thinking if they dont win out in the SEC tourn they may be looking at a 7+ seed .... Crazy to think that at the beginning of the season the Cards just wanted to make the tournament and how UK was a lock.

Anyone know his status... The last I heard was he had until mid dec and if not better would apply for a red shirt.

Any new news...  Considering how the UK game went last year I would love to see him play

Card Chronicle Basketball recruiting

Is anyone else concerned about the upcoming recruiting class.   I was looking through rivals to see what we might have coming in next year and I didnt see many commitments out of the top 100 for U of L.   I kinda figured this year would be a transition / rebuilding year however if we dont have new talent coming in it will be no different next.

Am I missing some key guys or is this something that should be of concern

On a side note I didnt see much for KY either

Card Chronicle E5 11th T-Will 14th

Earl to the NBA As if the Senior Night send-off didn't give it away ...

According to a published report, Earl Clark is signing with an agent and jumping full-bore into the NBA Draft. According to DraftExpress, EC's sitting at No. 11 to the Nets. (Terrence Williams has skyrocketed to 14th to the Suns, by their lights.)

For all of the moaning and groaning U of L fans did during Earl's three years in red and black, he used the NCAA Tournament to draw attention to his prodigious skills. Just as he dominated in the 2008 Elite Eight run, he was the most proficient offensive threat during the run to Indy. Scouts had to love his rebounding, defense and improved jump-shooting.

I remember firing off posts about wanting to see more of Clark as he languished on the bench early in his career. In the end I guess I'm still not going to see enough of him in a Cardinal uniform.

Card Chronicle could E5 return????

Yeah I HIGHLY doubt this but I read on another board that Pitino has been talking with Earl about returning for a championship run.  Supposedly neither Earl or Pitino are happy the way they left things this year.

Think there is any truth to it???

I HIGHLY doubt this to be true.  From my understanding Earl has a kid on the way and from what I read he is expected to go in the mid 1st round of the draft.   However crazier things have happened.   If he really is a little pizzed about not winning it all he may just take out an insurance policy on himself and come back..

what you think

Card Chronicle Next year

I have to say that the loss to Michigan State is very dissapointing.  Whats even more upsetting is that good ole #1 is done and awaiting his try at the NBA.   It has been a long time since I have followed someone as closely as T-Will and I hate to see it end like this.  One of the more upsetting things is that darn pic of T-Will with his shirt over his head.  I love watching UL basketball and hate to see them lose. However what I hate more is to see that pic and think about how depressed those guys must be.

So one would think that with T-Will, E-5 and Drea leaving one could expect a sub par 2009-2010 season. Heck I have heard people talk about it being another 3 years before we are up to the talent level we have this year.  Maybe even a .500 year coming up.  Well I just dont believe it.

Lets look at what we have.  Sam Sam coming back along with TJ.  Both have improved dramatically this year and will continue to do so over the summer and thext season. Ill bet that by the end of next season the combo will be the best center package in the country.  Ill also bet that at least one if not both of them are future pro players.   Goode who we didnt see much of will be out in full force.   Not to mention little Eddie, Jerry,  and PK who were regular contributors to this year and last years elite 8 teams.    Then you have Delk, Schopshire, and Kuric who will all begin the transition to taking over the spots left by E-5 and T-Will.    Lets not forget the PG Siva who is ANOTHER all american we will have on the team

So yes I can see where we MAY have a drop off in talent. However I just dont see it being as dramatic as what some may think.  Heck if certain things fall in place we could acheive everything we acheieved this year by the next.  Depending on player progress there could very well be 3 if not 4 future NBA prospects playing on next years team.

I also understand that we feel very bad for the team right now. Lets not forget that several of these guys will be making more $$ in the next couple years than some of us will in a  lifetime.. LOL
