Gameday snacks brought to you by a bunch of Bruin alums on the Today Show. Credit goes to my mom for finding this.
Stanford Kickoff Time: 7:30pm PDT
Gametime will be at 7:30pm PDT.
I have already bought 18 tickets, which after driving down to the Rose Bowl may have been a mistake. I guess that on the bright side, there'll be lots of time for tailgating.
Farmar to Play For Euroleague Runner-Up
Words cannot describe how excited I am about this. Finally a UCLA player will be donning a slightly different shade of gold and blue and suit up for my favorite professional basketball team, Maccabi Tel-Aviv (as if my username isn't a give away). Now I am really hoping the lockout persists.
Recruiting vs. On Field Performance
Not surprising is how bad our winning percentage is, somewhat surprising is how highly our recruiting has been the last 10 years, I'm sure Neuheisel's first few classes helped a lot with this relatively high ranking.
Also, guess who's #1. Clue: Sanctions.
Barnes to Return to UNC
Well, I suppose it's somewhat surprising but not too much because somehow Roy Williams retains high draft picks like crazy. Too bad we can't keep our questionable first round picks.
Plus, there's that very particular Westwood connection, which UCLA guys always tout as very important and which Baron has always seemed to prize at least as much as he has any sense of team identity since becoming a pro.
LenDale White "misses" Petey
Clearly LenDale appreciates Cheatie's concept of Trojan Family.
Best Universities in North America According to the THE
Just another ranking, and look who checks in at #8. The school across town somehow snuck it's way into the Top 50.
Also, I'm not sure if I completely agree with this there is some weird stuff going on after the Top 10.
Today while I was on one of those double sided weight machines, this kid politely asks me if I went to USC. Though slightly flustered I said, "No. UCLA" and pointed to the front of my shirt and shorts. Then I asked him where he was from and he said he went to USC. At that point I told him "I’m sorry" and pointed to how my shirt, while having a Trojan logo, said "SUC" in letters that were 3-4inches in height across my back. Read On.
Pictures From My Visit To MSG
I was lucky enough (or not), to go watch our team play in person last week at Madison Square Garden. Though a Villanova fan almost tried to start a fight with me because he couldn't handle the fact that UCLA basketball has more a NC more recently than 'Nova and has been to more final fours in the last decade, it was a pleasant experience. Well, also minus the final scores. Nonetheless, here are some pictures I took with my camera and then my iPhone camera once the battery on my real camera died.
Former Trojan Arrested (Shocking...)
Junior Seau was arrested in Oceanside after beating his girlfriend and then managed to drive his car off a cliff.
By the time kickoff rolls around, the stadium will be half-empty, and the Cal fans who missed the sales pitch will be pondering, "Hey, why does this look like a UCLA home game?"
Playing Without Your Top QB's: An awfully familiar feeling
As we have all seen by now, our Bruins trounced the Cougars of Houston by a 31-13 (palindrome!) score, while for us the biggest story was the offense showing a sign of life, for Houston it was kind of the opposite. More specifically, it was their top two QB's going down and having to play with a third stringer. The reaction from everyone on this blog has been what it every fan base needs to do. Be compassionate and understanding and not try to take pride that our defense was so tough that it caused those injuries. Sadly, us Bruins have suffered lots of the same feelings Houston fans must be feeling, and we have basically had four years of that.
Stanford Memories: The End of a Streak
Bumped. GO BRUINS. -N
First off, let me begin by wishing a Happy New Year to my fellow members of the Tribe and anyone else for that matter. Hopefully this (Jewish) New Year brings us Bruins more joy on the all playing fields, more than last year (though it will be hard to top 2 NC's and a CWS finals appearance). But back to the matter at hand. As everyone here knows by now, the school formerly known as the Indians comes to Pasadena this Saturday. Sure it marks the home opener and yet another beginning at the Rose Bowl, but for me it signifies an end.
As a recent graduate I made the tough decision to do my master's not at UCLA (hardest decision ever) but to do it at Columbia. This means I will be 3,000 miles away from the action. It also means I will not be able to play (as a band alum) or listen to Sons/Big C when the team rushes the field for the first time or Mighty when we score in person. The ironic (or coincidental, which one is it English majors?) part is that my first college football game ever was a Stanford v. UCLA game.
The Kitten Drops Down the Hammer
Another one of Kitten's Trogan band of thugs is suspended indefinitely. As we all know across town indefinitely means one day. My guess here given this player's past is one week.
Oregon State Player gets Tased
Really strange story about how an OSU player got caught naked (and drunk) at a random home. Mike Riley channeled his anti-Kiffin, and dismissed him from the team.
"The education is off the charts at SC," King said. "No offense to Duke or Villanova, but they don’t compare"
6 Degrees of Separation for NCAA Crusade
For those who don't know, the NCAA has been on a mission to get all the agents out of college football. In doing so, it has investigated five schools. Here's how they all tie up and end up across town...
Screenshots I took from two World Cup games of UCLA being repped in the crowd.
Trogan 13 Year Old Recruit's School Under Investigation
I just came across this on Yahoo! Sports, and it's an interesting short read. Who would have thought this 13 year old who's "committed" to Second Choice is involved in a scandal???
Dave Roberts has cancer
Saw this on the SF Giants SBN blog. Hope this Bruin overcomes his battle with lymphoma.
Go Bruins.
It was kind of ironic because Jeff Fisher is a Trojan. He got rid of a Trojan to get a Bruin.
List of Adidas Schools
Hope it is ok to link this, it's a list I've compiled of Adidas schools from the Big 6 conferences.
Bruin Leaves White House
Kal Penn (a Bruin) is leaving his post at the WH to return to films. I didn't even know he had it in the first place, but nice to see a Bruin was reppin' it in DC.
"It's very hurtful. The NCAA has never been kind to USC."
Beyond the banners and hopefully a glimpse of John Wooden at courtside, there's nothing special about the place.
Pac-10 Attendance and Analysis
The numbers from this year's Pac-10 numbers and some analysis. Here is the ESPN link which provided the numbers.
NCAA Possibly Expanding
It's tournament to 96 teams, as early as next year.
What is a big time basketball school?
Our season has been sub par but I have always found it annoying that people from certain schools (like Arizona) claim to be a basketball school with a history and what not so I compiled a list of those schools. This is probably a hot topic seeing as my roommate disagrees with me. I want to know what other UCLA folk think about it.
Sonny Dykes to leave UofA
This to me seems like big news because he was responsible for their ridiculous offense.
