Week 13 DVOA Rankings
It's that time of the week again. The Football Outsiders Week 13 DVOA Rankings have been released, and there's some good news, middling news, and some bad news for the Chargers. I bet you all can guess which is which. I know everyone isn't a fan of DVOA, and I'm well aware of its flaws, but I think it's pretty interesting to see what it says about where the Chargers stand in the NFL.

Week 12 DVOA
Always a touchy subject on BFTB, Football Outsiders has released their Week 12 DVOA Ratings. The Chargers have had some movement in some interesting places, as well as lack of movement in others. I don't have premium (talk to Wonko or Richard), so what follows is based only on the publicly available stats.

As for the Chargers, they sure have swagger, this year's No. 1-rated word. And they have those powder blues, the nicest-looking uniforms in sports. The Bolts are 30th in rushing yardage, but third in the most important offensive category: points. The same question for San Diego as for Minnesota: Who have they beaten? The Bolts have wins over the Giants, Eagles and Broncos, but it's not clear any of these clubs are headed to the postseason. Last season, San Diego went 1-5 against teams that reached the playoffs. After the Chargers face Dallas and Cincinnati this month, we'll know more.

To echo what someone else said about the Colts: I started watching them when they were down 20-7. They had the ball, and I just assumed they would erode the lead slowly. I had no thought it would be an upset. I never think they are going to lose except when they play the Chargers.

The Chargers announced Friday they have received another 24-hour extension to sell enough tickets to lift the TV blackout for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The club has until 1:05 p.m. Saturday to sell the remaining 1,350 tickets.
The Chargers have a streak of 44 consecutive regular-season and postseason games shown on local TV. The last blackout was Nov. 7, 2004 against New Orleans.

LT's Touches
We've talked a lot about LT, his age, the wear on his body, and his effectiveness. Before the season, John argued strongly for Turner to adopt a true multi-back attack so as to preserve LT and have him be fresher towards the end of the season. However, Turner publicly stated Ladanian would remain the featured back, getting enough carries to "compete for a rushing title". So what's really happened? Let's see.

With offensive tackle Jeromey Clary nursing a leg injury that will sideline him indefinitely, the San Diego Chargers are stepping up efforts to sign free-agent offensive tackle Jon Runyan, a source close to the situation said Tuesday.

[T]his week San Diego passes Denver for the first time in 2009. The Denver collapse has been quite remarkable, especially if you look at the FO playoff odds. Just four weeks ago, we listed Denver with a 98.8 percent chance of making the playoffs, including a 96 percent chance of winning the division and a 71 percent chance of getting a first-round bye. This week, the Broncos' chances of making the playoffs are listed at 57.2 percent, with only a 20 percent chance of winning their division. San Diego's win over Denver raised the chances of the Chargers making the playoffs by 38 percent, and cut the chances of the Broncos making the playoffs by 24 percent.
