Trade Idea: Jrich for Gerald Wallace + Marvin Ely

Looking at our long term financials, and our current plethora of wing players, at some point it's highly likely that Mullin will have to decide between keeping Pietrus and trading JRich or losing Pietrus to free agency. I really like JRich, but to me, I'd rather keep the younger, nearly equally talented player who we can undoubtedly get for less than 50 million over the next 4 years. Charlotte is currently starting Matt Carroll (Who the crap is that guy?) at the two guard, and have the 'Stache as their player of the future at the 3 (Wallace's true position). They still need a proven scorer at the 2 position and JRich can give them that. Besides, he's spectacular, can hit the three and is an upstanding citizen.

In Wallace and Ely, we get two rugged defenders (plus some needed girth that isn't Foyle), and a huge amount of salary cap relief in the future.

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat, and I think it is a good trade for Charlotte.

Would you do it? Would they?

I don't get to watch the W's much, so a lot of my time being a fan is spent reading what everyone here posts, and by staring blankly at the standings. I was doing exactly this last night when it hit me - we're in a pretty good spot right now. We actually have a winning conference record. Only 5 other teams in the west have a winning record against the west. Granted, we are 9-3 at home vs 1-6 on the road in those games.

We've got 9 out of the next 12 on the road, but aside from the games at Orlando and Miami and the two games at Phoenix, we should be the favorites every night. If we can go 8-4, we'll come out of this with a 20-15 record, and in a pretty good position to run for that 8th spot. Of course, it was on a road trip like this when we completely fell apart last year. But with Nelson at the helm, the team will understand the importance of these games... ...right?
