Is this Tomlin's Wake Up call?

The past three years Tomlin has been on some what of a coaching high. Going 10-6 his first year and then winning the Super Bowl his second year. All along sing the same song, style points don't matter, bruce arians is doing a good job, I walk past 6 lombardies not 6 rushing titles, there is nothing wrong with the O-line. But what is tomlin going to do now, he's finally reaching the point were his team is not getting it done.

What needs to happen? First and formost strengthen the part of the team "where games are won"...the trenches. We need to sign/draft/bring in guys who will down right dominate on the o-line. For years we had "the line". A good o-line makes any middle of the road running back look great. Jerome Bettis when he was with the Rams had a crappy line, he comes to the Steelers and suddenly he's passing people on the All-Time rushing list. You think Emmit Smith would be where he is if he had a middle of the road line?...no he wouldn't. A better o-line would also allow/prevent Ben from doing his constant extend the play/don't throw it away run around until i get sacked/injured heroics.

2009 Season Wish List

First and for most, my hopes from the last time I did one of these came out true. I wanted a dominating defense. Which is still true, but we’ll need our backups to step up. So here goes my wish list for the 2009-2010 season.

1-      Dominating Defense: I’m talking, even more dominating than last year. With Polamalu out for a couple of weeks it will require our backups to step up. I’m not a big fan of Tyrone Carter (ever since the Jaguars playoff game in ’07 when Gerrard ran right past him), I would love to see Ryan Mundy fill in and become a hidden gem. He has good size and speed, and could serve as the eventual replacement for Clark. I believe the more stifling our pass defense is the more one dimensional opponents’ offenses become.

2-      Woodley and Harrison repeat: This probably goes in the first one, but I thought it should have its own category. Would it not be just awesome if Woodley and Harrison both piled up 20 sacks a piece? Throw in 5-8 sacks out of both Farrior and Lawerance and it would….well it would be dominating.

3-      Logan blazing it up: I saw enough out of Logan last night to know that this guy has the potential to be a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that he is even more potent than Antwaan Randle El. Prediction:  I see him producing at least 3-4 touchdowns on returns.

4-      The Fantastic Four: Holmes, Ward, Sweed and Wallace. After watching the Titans game I can confidently say that Wallace was a great find. He seems further along than Sweed was a year ago. Sweed seems to be developing into a big target who has the potential to come up with great catches (based on pre-season production).  Our passing game looked awesome…considering we had no running game.

5-      Shades of the old offense:  Games are usually won in the trenches. Our offensive line has issues, but let’s hope they get their act together. Parker and Mendenhall are not the type of back like Bettis was who could make his own holes if one wasn’t available.

6-      Arians: I have mixed emotions on Arians. At times he calls plays that make sense. But then there are those time like last night on 2-2 he called a running play, on 3-1 he calls a running play…with a running average of 1.7 yards…I would have gone with something else.

7-      Super Bowl Repeat:  For once I would love to see us beat the snot out of New England in the playoffs (maybe like the AFC Champ Game) and go on to win the Super Bowl.

Draft Wishlist for 09

It's never to early to put together a list of things we need for next year. Since we are basically running with the same group of players as last season It's kind of easy to see what we need.

PART 2:Tyrone Carter you have to go!

Yesterday I gave some pretty solid reasons as to why Tyrone Carter needs to be cut, traded, thrown into a pit of death, etc. I watched some more games from last season in which he was replacing Troy P at SS.

Tyrone Carter you have to go!

I don't know about you but when I watch Tyrone Carter play, i get cramps in my neck from shacking my head. At times I wonder how this guy managed to stay on the roster for all these years.
