Nuggets at even par through 5 holes. My unscientific and "some would say" idiotic season assessment measure.
I often assess my paths to various accomplishments using a golf analogy. For example, a bad grade when I need a B in a semester would be a bogey, getting a B on a test is a par, acing a test, a birdie. I thought going into this season the Nuggets needed to end the season as a 3 or 4 seed, and have in my mind games we should win and games we shouldn't realistically expect to win. We opened the season with a birdie against the Mavs. We have since bogeyed against NO and Utah and home, but had a nice birdie last night in Philly. We are even par, needing a win against the Wizards and the Kings (but expecting a loss to the Knicks on the 2nd night of a b2b) to stay even par. A win in the garden puts us under par. Like golf, sometimes par is not good enough if another team is playing lights out, so even if we are even par, overachieving teams may rise. By that same token, the Lakers and OKC might shank a game into the woods (cough OKC losing to the Wizards). In any event the Nugs have been pretty steady through the first fourth of the season, mostly parring and making up for their bogeys when they need to. And, lo and behold, we are tied for 4th place in the conference, with Utah and LAC playing under par, and Lakers and Mavs playing over par. Anyone think we're over or under par instead of even after last night's game?

Good news for blogs generally and Denver Stiffs
The Las Vegas Sun Journal "assigned" its copyright and hired this group called Righthaven to sue a blog for excerpting an article as a copyright violation. Dozens of other similar suits are filed or contemplated by this Righthaven group against other blogs. A judge has shut that down and has threatened sanctions against Righthaven.
Relevant to Denver Stiffs because I believe the Denver Post is a client of Righthaven. As long as Denver Stiffs and we commenters excerpt only small portions of articles, we do not have to fear copyright bullies.

Why Melo should quit complaining about not getting the ball at the three point line.... because he should remember that a catch and shoot can't be done with .3 seconds on clock. Melo was a witness to an incredible shot by Brad Miller against the Nuggets last season that couldn't have left Miller's hands any more quickly.

You'll be glad to know that the league doesn't just let Manu cheat against the Bucks, but the Nuggets too. Flopobli got a charge call on Melo's game winner, handing the Spurs the win.

The players were Steve Atwater, Ray Crockett, Al Smith, Blaine Bishop, Carlos Emmons and Clyde Simmons. At issue was the NFL and union recommending a crook to be a financial adviser for the players, the players trusting the NFL and the union, and collectively losing $20 million.

The article discusses how OSHA has stayed out of professional sports before, but has the authority to step in whereever there is an employer-employee relationship where there is a significant risk of serious injury or death at the workplace.

I know football is a violent game, but someone is going to die on the field...something I've been quietly dreading for a while.
Change the rules and defensive players will become better at interceptions, batting the ball away, covering, etc.

With Denver's running back troubles, I thought I'd check out DawgsByNature.com for Hillis story links out of curiousity to see how Hillis was doing. Looks like he's doing pretty darn good in the two games on offense and special teams.
