Marshawn has at long last released his statement regarding what happened that fateful morning. We had heard reports of the dancing girl and he states that this was the person who captured his attention. Understandable to me.

I won't say whether his reasons or valid or not, but I have no choice but to accept them. If they're good enough for the DA, who am I to argue? I can certainly see, if the circumstances are accurate, how he might not have realized what happened. This is likely why things progressed so slowly, rather than going directly to the authorities like many have suggested he should have done. If he honestly didn't realize what had happened, do you think the police wouldn't have tried to trip him up in some way to give the appearance he may have? Instead, he let his lawyer do what lawyers do and gather all available information and compare that to what the authorities have. I don't see how this could have turned out any better for Marshawn and the team. And I have no doubt Ms. Shpeley will get restitution in some significant form. Arguably, he shouldn't have put himself in the situation to begin with, but the handling of it after the fact couldn't have been done better, IMO.

The Saga Continues....

Couple of things broke today in the epic tale of an oversized/ overpriced Porsche and it's unknown driver. Depending on who you listen to, all three - or maybe just two - of the players subpoenaed to testify Friday have gotten a pass.

Looks like the "get outta Dodge" strategy has worked quite well to this point. The front office fellows still are on the hook, but at least the players got a reprieve. The Buffalo News article is intriguing in that it brings to light a couple of new details, in that Hardy may not have had much to do with anything and someone has actually come to Marshawn's defense publicly. I'll keep my cynical thoughts on those two things to myself. Also, in the WBEN interview with the commish (Police, not NFL) it is stated that "police cameras in the area did not capture an image of the driver". In my mind that says there's little to no evidence that ML was the driver. As long as everyone sticks to their constitutional rights to keep their mouths shut, the DA's got very little to charge him with. You lawyer types out there, is a witness statement and a positive vehicle ID enough for criminal charges?

Minicamp cut, along with....

Teyo Johnson and Luke Drone. The cuts of the players wasn't surprising to me, but cutting short the minicamp makes me wonder.

I don't think anyone gave much of a shot to either player, though had Johnson shown anything he may have been invited to training camp. In the reports from the last couple of weeks, I don't recall seeing his name once. But with Jauron making the call to "throw them a little bone" and ditch the last day of minicamp, I can't help but be a little skeptical.

Sure the guys that showed worked their tails off and by all accounts started to bring things together some. Hardy, Evans, and Edwards with their extra reps at the end of practices; Greer (whom I've always thought highly of) showing he's not going to allow McKelvin to waltz into the starting spot, the offense starting to show some rhythm, etc. But the timing is just too weird for me to let go of.

There's still yet to be any reports of what went down when the cops arrived this afternoon. I can't help but think that maybe an alterior motive was to get the majority of players out of Dodge before the Sheriff came to town. Not to mention that there won't be another day of reporters swarming the guys asking about Peters and Lynch. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, or that the guys didn't earn it, simply that it's one of those things that make me go "Hmmmm...".

Anybody catch the press conference?

WGRZ streamed it online but I didn't catch it before it crapped out. From what the nimrods on the boards on the team site are saying, there's still no new real info. I find that hard to fathom. The only thing I could gather was that there's still no charges filed, and that apparently ML still has yet to sit down with the police. Guess I was wrong with my earlier assessment that they'd let him practice without having done so. Who saw it? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Not sure how to take this...

Came across this article through a site that ML posts to himself sometimes. I can't make up my mind how to feel about it.

http://www.accessathletes.com/blog/blogdisplay.cfm?blogid=75

On one hand, I can understand the legal rationale behind "keeping your mouth shut". Especially when there's so much at stake. But at the same time, I'd much rather hear ML's side of things; good, bad, or ugly. Who knows, maybe his attorney has already given him this advice and took it himself at the same time. Seems a little odd to me that an athlete's legal counsel would be "out of town" for so many days with something like this going down.

No ?'s on Raven's QB

Looks like the Ravens aren't going to risk McNair aggravating his groin injury at all against us this weekend. Billick left no mystery by naming Boller thier starter again this week. Personally, I'd rather go against a healthy Boller than a 50-70% McNair any day! They couldn't manage a touchdown against St. Louis last week with Boller at the helm, and from what I've seen our D is playing much better than the Rams'.

After a full half, and a two-minute drill under his NFL belt, we're starting to get a sense of just what Trent Edwards is capable of. Though I wasn't fortunate enough to see or hear the last game, I followed online and was pleasantly surprised when the staff chose to leave him in. When I came across this article tonight, it gives further room for optimism. If a man who coached Joe Montana thinks so much of this kid, I'm even more excited to see him play with my own eyes. Much more so than Nall, who likely will get the whole second half next week.

I had my fingers crossed, but to no avail. His experience would've been invaluable to Ko and Donte, never mind the scenario the Brian presented the other day. They didn't get enough time to learn from Troy (IMO). Kudos Brian on the link to the SC-based article on Yukota. I knew Ko couldn't have been his given name, but hadn't heard it presented before. Too bad they couldn't get his "best friend" 's name right!

N8
