Big Blue View How to stop the Eagles Offense

The web has been ablaze recently on how to stop the new "runaway MVP candidate " Vick and the rest of the Eagles explosive offense. Desean Jackson has always had good games against us and Maclin is having a breakout season this year and seeing how our defense got carved up by Jon Kitna we might be worried on how our defense will stop them.

I find the Eagles offense quite like the Cowboys. They have two or three good recievers for down the field and each have a running game of their own type. The Cowboys have HBs that needed to be accounted for while you need to watch for Vick and the short screen game to McCoy and the WR's.

Not that relevant but the current lakers got crossed over twice.
Whats the most interesting is by whom. It seems Deron Williams has D Fish's number while KryptoNate has steve blakes as both got crossed over their partner twice

Ridiculously cheap. a 4th for Morrison and a 5th. So basicly they traded morrison to move a 5th to a 4th. Even if the Giants werent high on morrison at that price

Big Blue View Giants 2010 Mock Draft w/ Trade

In this mock it is assumed that Mclain is taken at 15 so JR trades back with the Chargers to grab either Dan WIlliams or Spiller.

15 for 28 and 40

1st round #28

Charles Brown USC

261x_medium

Brown has all the makings of an elite tackle. Hes quick on his feet strong at the point of attack and is equally good as a pass blocker and run mauler. He was pretty dominant in college even though he was playin at only 285 pounds. I think he can put 15-25 pounds on without losing to much speed. He was a former tight end who converted to OT so he can still improve his technique. Ive seen him go to the colts most of the time so he should be available and i seriously dont see much difference between him and the other OT's in the draft. I think he could take control of the LT or RT spot for the next 10 years.

NFL Comparison: Jason Peters, Jason Smith Both are converted TE's who switched to tackle and they all have a similar athleticism.

Other guys i considered: As much as i love brown if Witherspoon falls this far we have to grab him. Price might also fall but i think if he fell this far then hell continue to #40. Ryan Matthews, Maurkice Pouncey

2nd round #40

Brian Price UCLA

He fell down to #46 in the latest mocking the draft community draft so i think theres a chance he falls this far. If he does its a nobrainer. Id be very happy with this guy who im sure your all aware of. http://www.bigblueview.com/2010/2/2/1287658/daily-nfl-draft-prospect-profile Just in case.

2nd round #46

Ideally wed be able to trade back her to the end of the second round and grab a late round pick (ZOLTAN MESKO) but if we cant id still take navarro bowman. This was a toss up for me between LB and S and i think LB is a bigger need (i have faith in Kenny's knees as well as mike johnson) (kind of). Anyway Bowman is a lot like Sean Weatherspoon but with some problems. Hes had a couple of run ins with the law (weed and small things) but nothing too serious. Hes from Penn State which has a history of great linebackers and i think hed fit great in our defense. If we start running a full blown tampa 2 we can play him at MLB (like spoon) if not he can push Sintim for the LB spot. I personally believe we should draft a LB and move Sintim to DE but thats another story.

3rd round #76

Now we just go BPA besides WR, OT, TE, QB and DE.

The players we can possibly get are: John Jerry G, Lamarr Houston DT, Linvall Joseph NT, Matt Tennant C/G, Larry Asante S, Brandon Spikes MLB, AJ Edds OLB and Dexter McCluster HB/KR, Major Wright S.

With DT taken care of, Brandon Spikes being slow and the previous additions to the OLINE i settled on Safety. Major wright is a real safety in sense that he can be trusted to be the last line of defense. THe replay of Cant Cover watching Desean Jackson make the deep catch runs through my mind. He played cover 1 alot and was trusted to cover the back end and did a good job. A possible fill in at SS if Phillips is a NoGo. I thought about McCluster but i think we can find better talent later in the draft (next round). What really sealed the deal is that he can be a special teams standout, something we REALLY Need.

4 Round

With the addition ofCharles Brown to our offense the only thing missing from our offense is a 3rd down back. WHat do you need in a 3rd down back? Pass protecting, good hands as well as running. Joe McKnight fits this role.http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2010/2/3/1284835/joe-mcknight-nfl-draft-scouting. Imagine Derrick Ward... But blazing fast. He also returned punts and we can try him at kickoffs as well. I think hell just add that home run threat to our offense.

Joe McKnight #4 of the USC Trojans breaks away from Robert Blanton #12, Raeshon McNeil #8 and Darius Fleming #45 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irsh to score a touchdown and a 14-0 lead during the second quarter at the Coliseum on November 29, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.

5 Round

Donald Butter

Good against the pass as well as bench pressing the most of all MLB's Butler is a value pick. Strong and fast Butler only needs the NFL mindset to suceed. He isnt very aggressive or physical but he might be inspired on entering the NFL. Not a bad chance on a 5th rounder.

Running back Stanley Havili #31 of the USC Trojans fumbles against Donald Butler #9 of the Washington Huskies in the third quarter on September 19, 2009 at Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington. The Huskies defeated the Trojans 16-13.

6 Round

Zoltan Mesko

No explanation needed

Yes thats a punter. And kickoff specialist. which allows us to keep Tynes. Unfortunately

7th round

Ted Larson C

A developmental Center for when Ohara turns 40. Joking but hes 34 now and we dont have anyone else on the roster who can snap a football. But please allow us to laugh at the other backups attempts to snap the ball. Hes 300 pounds and pretty quick. With good coaching might become a starter. Thought about adding competition for tynes but well definately add a UDFA K.

UDFA's (not just camp bodies)

K, ST (LB, S)

Big Blue View Jets copying Giants Formula to Super Bowl Success?

Trade up for star rookie QB? Check

Build up aggressive smart defense? Check

Use an Elite run game and OLine to set up the pass? Check

and Now...

Steal troubled former 1st round Steelers WR? Check

As a Giant fan from Southern California im a USC fan and have been a huge fan of Mark Sanchez. I also dont hate the Jets. I admire the way theyre rising above the rest of the AFC using our old formula. But now im starting to get scared. Imagine a 1st round pass rushing OLB as well as the possibility of adding Sanchez's favorite target, Damian Williams. Maybe a 3rd round safety and i see no flaws in this team.

He's out of the picture so now we can draft Zoltan Mesko... hopefully

Big Blue View OL: Need or just excessive?

I've heard tons of people arguing that we need to take an OL in the first two rounds. I really disagree with this as I think we more pressing needs than OT.

Big Blue View Mock Draft Q's

Id just like to clarify who we really want to get with all our draft picks

1st round -

MLB: Mclain - no brainer i think

DT: Brian Price or Dan Williams - who do you like more guys. I think Williams is the better fit but up to you

DE: Derrick Morgan seems like the only DE wed take at the moment

OT: Diehl making pro bowl as a LT was a joke but i think hed be fine on the right side with beatty on the left. THe only guy id be intreseted in is the beast from maryland Campell. THis is just a BPA pick.

S: This is a little high for a S but i dunno. I think even thomas is a reach here but ive seen that chad jones goes at 20

2nd:

If we dont get a S in the first i think we need one now. to much depth at the position.

Id be happy with Chad Jones, Morgan Burnett, Nate Allen or possibly taylor mays (???)

Other than that theres a couple of linebackers:  Brandon Spikes, Navarro Bowman, Daryl Washington

There are no OT's unless Charles Brown falls to us or we want to reach for a project (Jared Veldheer or Vladimir Ducasse)

Past here i think lamar houston and cam thomas are some of the few guys id want in the third or one of those project OT's.

We def should look into getting Kirk Morrison (3rd MLB) or Atowage (TBA FS)'

AND PLEASE PLEASE GET ZOLTAN MESKO

Big Blue View Brian Price

As a USC fan i might be a little bit skeptical even though he dominated us, i dont think he will keep this up in the pros. We dont need a small dt that will help in the pass rush some. We need a big NT that will shut down the run so Osi dosent have to think too hard

I think we need to get maybe Dan Williams or wait to the later rounds to get Fred Robs replacement

And all those who do not want a giant NT because were a 4-3. Name a succesful 4-3 that dosent have a NT stopping the run. Vikes- THe Williams. Saints- Sedrick Ellis and on and on. Skins - Haynesworth. Titans last year - Haynesworth.

Look what happened to the Titans top 5 defense after haynesworth left. Look what happend to ours when Fred ROb got Old. You Need a big NT to run the 4-3 too.

Only team that dosent have one is the colts but they have such a good offense that they play with a lead and dont need to stop the run so much.

Big Blue View DT prospects

I think most people agree that DT and S are the two positions that killed us this year
With Kenny Philips hopefully coming back i think we need to focus on the DT in the first round and then grab a saftey in the second.

After that we shore up the Oline and find some versatile linebackers and i think we are fine.

Here are the top DT prospects and thier descriptions from http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-19045-NFL-Draft-Examiner~y2009m12d21-2010-NFL-Draft-top-ten-DT-prospects

Big Blue View 3-4 again

Hey guys... id just like to point out that the Osi situation reminds me alot of elvis dumervil in Denver. He tried playing DE in the 4-3 and he was helpful rushing the QB but they ran the ball right at him every play. Same deal with Osi. I seiously think putting him as an OLB would rejuvinate him.

Plus with the offense looking set, except maybe backup OL were going to redo the defense in the draft and FA anyway so maybe this would actually help out are existing player (except tuck but i still think hell succeed)

Projected depth chart after switch:

RE: Chris Canty, Jay Alford

NT: Fred Robbins or FA/DP (Cofeild?)

LE: Justin Tuck, Barry Cofield

LOLB: Mathias Kiwanuka, Clint Sintim

RILB: Antonio Pierce, Danny Clark

LILB: Johnathon Goff, Bryan Kehl

ROLB: Osi, Sintim

I decided to put Osi and Canty on the same side because i think Canty's departure has hurt Demarcus Wares sack count

I dunno where our back up LB would fit in... Wilkinson and blackburn and dave tollfenson on the DLINE

and i really think that casey hamptons going to be a FA and he can be a 1-2 year stopgap for us to develop a NT

or we can

Big Blue View 3-4?

The 3-4 is the new defense in the NFL. the Steelers, Ravens cowboys and chargers have all been using it for a while for a big amount of sucess. Denver and and others used it this offseason with good results. I think it will help bring pressure. The only position that we would need is possibly NT but i think the Steelers NT is a FA after this season and maybe we could steal him or maybe trade for Cleveland's Shaun Rodgers.
