The last year Glennon was truly good Josh Freeman was still in college

I don't care about a game over any rival 50 some odd years ago unless it had a title on the line. It just doesn't matter. That doesn't matter if we won or lost

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he is going to be a bust.
Commented on The Austin Seferian-Jenkins hype is real on Aug 14 2014, 12:39p
Agree, but that is more predictive of his future than 2 catches and 2 holds in a preseason game and apologizing for his DUI
Commented on The Austin Seferian-Jenkins hype is real on Aug 14 2014, 12:36p - 1 reply
Eh we have no evidence the hype is real. He was still a 2nd round pick that underperformed last year.

It is common sense. Brian doesn't understand how vision works
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 8 2014, 7:13a - 1 reply
Wow do you have any idea how vision works? If you have 20/20 vision please shut up as you have zero idea what you are talking about
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 8 2014, 7:12a - 1 reply
If you can't make out fingers I'm not sure how you can pinpoint the glove.
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 7 2014, 1:31p - 1 reply
Apparently part of the trade is that he signs long term
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 7 2014, 1:31p - 1 reply
Well he should. If he is willing to sign an extension with the Cavs it is in his best interest for the Cavs to give up the least amount possible.
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 7 2014, 1:15p - 1 reply
Agree with Wiggins. The Wolves are crushing the trade. The Cavs are wigging out (pun intended) even though they have all the leverage.
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 7 2014, 1:03p - 2 replies
The number of pitchers that don't look at the glove at all is a deep minority. Sure, some may pick up the glove late, but they still look at the glove.
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 7 2014, 1:01p
I have to disagree with you here. Vision is pretty damn important in sports, especially baseball where we are talking the difference of millimeters can be a difference in some cases.
Commented on The Rays Tank: Win in OAK, off to CHI on Aug 7 2014, 12:58p - 1 reply
It is dead even so far this year, but Hahn is looking like the best asset going forward.
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 9:38a
Agreed. I wonder if young decent SPs with a track record of success in the majors can be a new market inefficiency.
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 9:21a - 1 reply
Thing is the Tigers seemed to think highly of him as well. So it isn't like we bought a top 50 player for out of the top 100 prices. We probably bought a top 50 player at his right price. Nothing wrong with that.
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 9:19a - 1 reply
But wrap your mind around that. Jesse Hahn is essentially Drew Smyly.
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 9:05a - 1 reply
Yeah that was a miss. He'd never start for the Rays, but that is turning into an interesting trade. Both sides have gotten .7 WAR this year.
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 9:01a - 1 reply
Adames is the wild card. Many people, myself included, discounted him because he isn't highly rated. But he is much more highly rated than what the public thinks as we are just running w/ outdated information
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 8:57a - 1 reply
It wouldn't be Russell vs Smyly and Franklin. It is Russell + roster spot/money saved vs Smyly + Franklin
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 8:56a
Depth is certainly beneficial, but I'd take more team overall WAR than more consistent WAR through the roster. Ultimately you play to win. If you get serious enough injuries you the odds of you flying a flag is low, even if you have a good deep roster
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 8:54a
Yeah people look at trades all wrong. It isn't the WAR of who you got for the time under contract vs WAR of what you traded for their contract. That is just awful analysis to be honest
Commented on It wasn't supposed to end like this on Aug 6 2014, 8:53a - 1 reply
We have to go 6-3/7-2 against them to have any real shot.

The ALE is the best division in baseball. I'm not sure why this ALE sucks narrative has gotten any traction. It is 100% false.
Commented on The Rays Tank: Don't frown, it's Smyly Tuesday on Aug 5 2014, 1:52p - 1 reply
You are acting like his 5.2 WAR year was years ago. It was 2012, and he put up 3.1 last year.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:38p - 1 reply
If the Rays were the only team able to trade for Franklin that would be true. However nearly every team has a use for a 3 WAR utility player.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:34p
That isn't how it works unless teams collude. That same argument could be used on FA pay. Teams could in theory collude and pay superstars dimes.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:33p - 1 reply
Didn't you just say most people think the M's won their portion of the trade? Now you are arguing that they lost big?
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:31p - 2 replies
That isn't how it works. All teams are competing. The fact Franklin didn't have a spot on the Ms should have zero impact on his worth to other teams
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:26p - 3 replies
It is almost a 100% certainly Jackson produces more WAR than Franklin in 2014 and 2015.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:25p
Also if the Ms made out well on their end that means they sold their player high and/or bought a player low.

Time value + premium of wins in the 85-90 range.

Jackson is 3.8 WAR/162 for his career
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:15p - 1 reply
Right. He is a 3.5 win player. The M's traded future 3 wins for 3.5 win rate over the next 1.2 years. Pretty standard.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:13p - 2 replies
I don't think you understand the concept of buying high and low.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:10p - 3 replies
If they think he is a 4 win player then it is a good move to buy him at 3 win rates. However Franklin has been a good prospect and continues to have a bright future. We bought him for what people think he is worth.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:06p - 1 reply
And you seem to have a huge problem with reading. When did I say that the FO should tank? Or that they are tanking?
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:04p
I was actually using fangraphs, but I pulled the line below the Rays (Marlins) instead of the Rays. My bad. Even still .517 isn't good enough.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:01p
I can speculate to the cows come home who might be available, but would be acquiring Santana since he is supposedly available.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 2:00p - 1 reply
How is that a strawman? The Rays are projected to be a freaking .474 team the rest of the way. I think that is low, we are not exactly a consensus 90 win team right now.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:57p - 1 reply
It is impossible to know which players are available in a trade.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:55p - 1 reply
I've never said there is only one way to win a title. However I do know winning a title requires a team to at least be a top 10 team in MLB at absolute minimum, and realistically top 5.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:53p - 1 reply
I'm not saying to tank...
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:51p
Well I said 80-85. But there are a few avenues
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:49p - 1 reply
Actually the As and Tigers are both doing what I'm saying to do.

It was an article that is on the front page of Draysbay. I didn't think I needed to link it.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:45p - 2 replies
Obviously winning a title requires luck. The point is they play for titles when they have good teams, and when they don't they reload for future years.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:44p
You have to be good enough to make the playoffs though.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:43p
Well I would rather them go for it. I don't want the rebuild. I just don't want purgatory. My preference is they put the Price money back into the roster, and try to win it all in 2015.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:41p - 1 reply
You are missing the point entirely. It is about maximizing your chances at winning a title. See what the Red Sox did this year.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:39p - 2 replies
Actually the projection is 3.5 wins. So yeah.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:33p - 1 reply
Take the WAR projections if you want. For this trade to work out he needs to be what, a 3 win player?
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:31p - 2 replies
His perceived value is not that low. He was traded for Austin Jackson. The M's didn't trade him for a total scrub
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:30p - 1 reply
Actually no it doesn't. I don't think anyone projects him to do that going forward. You are smarter than this.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:27p - 1 reply
Like I said I hope they go for it. Nobody knows if they will yet. In fact the argument can be made that they will given what they got for Price and that they haven't traded Zobrist.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:26p - 1 reply
Actually we won't. Whether we bought high or low has nothing to do with how he performs in the future.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:16p - 2 replies
Facts are facts
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:15p
Also you are either a legitimate title contender or you aren't. If you aren't it doesn't matter if you are the Royals or the Astros.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:14p
Actually I've never said we'd be a 70 game winner. I said we would be average. Around a .500 team. In some cases being a .500 team is worse than a 70 win team.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:12p - 2 replies
Or most folks are idiots because they are severe homers without objectivity?
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 1:01p - 1 reply
Just like Sternfan was just presenting facts...
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 12:59p - 1 reply
The key is if the Rays put the Price money back into the roster. If they do, then it makes some sense. If they don't, then it is the Twins/Astros scenario.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 12:57p - 1 reply
I don't think we bought low on Franklin. Most folks think we got robbed in the trade so we certainly didn't buy low. At best we paid market value.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 12:56p - 2 replies
There is nothing significant from a statistical point of view about a "homestand". Also we went 5-4
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 12:52p - 1 reply
I think you are on with your assessment. It takes them some time to trust young guys in the pen, and they seem less likely to give them a shot.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 12:46p
Of course it does. They all count. You both are just randomly picking arbitrary start dates. Your overarching point that we are playing better now is absolutely true, & I disagree w/ Sternfan if he is trying to make assessments of our play over 4 games
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 12:43p - 1 reply
Lost last game vs MIL, then 2 of 3 vs LAA. 3 of 4.
Commented on Rays Tank: We're still waiting on Aug 4 2014, 9:52a - 1 reply
Well obviously Friedman could have traded him for like Vidal Nuno, so I guess it could have been worse. You win.
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 4:34p - 1 reply
I'm not contradicting my point. #4 starters are not something to pay a premium for. Those are home-grown talent type guys, scrap heap type guys, etc. They are not the most efficient use of your surplus capital
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 4:29p - 2 replies
I'd project for us to win about 84 games and Toronto 86/87.
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 4:28p - 2 replies
The vast majority of the media is saying we got destroyed. It is not just me lol.
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 4:22p - 1 reply
I can play the arbitrary numbers game too. If we go down to 70 IP, which is still all SP, a xFIP of 4 would rank 90th.
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 3:43p - 1 reply
And Austin Jackson netted Franklin. Not sure your point here.
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 3:40p - 1 reply
5.5 out with 9 against that team is not a ton of ground to make up.

Huh? I meant after this season. He is under control for another year. Try again.
Commented on Did the Rays lose the David Price trade? on Aug 1 2014, 3:34p - 1 reply
So what? That doesn't change the fact that higher rated players in any sport, at any level, have a higher probability of success than lower rated.
