Thomas Tull: The Hero Owner The Padres Deserve
The team is for sale, everybody knows that. We've had names like Peter O'Malley and Steven Cohen mentioned as possible suitors. Just today [EDIT: The Tull connection was actually made last week here.], after we successfully put liquid heat in Stephen Strasburg's jock, a new name was thrown out there.
He is a part-owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers
He runs the hugely-successful Legendary Pictures and is responsible for bringing us such films as Inception, The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and 300
He's one of the most powerful men in Hollywood - Thomas Tull, the hero San Diego deserves.

Padres are the least popular baseball team in the U.S.
Harris Poll has the Padres and Blue Jays tied for last based on 2,163 adults surveyed online between June 13 and 20, 2011
BEARDS BEARDS BEARDS!
It's May, time to grow beards. Check out last year's post for the "rules."
Philip Rivers losing to Adrian Peterson in Madden 12 Cover Vote
Look, there is no such thing as a curse or a jinx, so shut up about that. Rally around Philip and vote for him or else it'll be some other schmuck on the cover.
And again, shut up about curses.
Padres Spring Training Is A Life-Changing Experience
I started going to Spring Training last year with a big group of fans. It actually was my first trip ever out to Arizona for preseason baseball and I can't believe I had never done it before. We even got written about last year. This year's trip was just as fun. Join me for some pictures.

Let's make some new shirts. Jed can get $1 per unit and we pocket the rest for pizza.
Showtime to broadcast reality series following the Giants
"Additionally, Showtime announced a greenlight for new unscripted series featuring behind-the-scenes access with the 2010 World Series champion San Francisco Giants. The series, which will chronicle the Giant's quest to defend their title through the 2011 MBL season, is done in a collaboration with MLB Prods."
I'm glad I canceled Showtime.
Video: Ryan Mathews throws out the first pitch
Marty Caswell has a video interview with Bam Bam before throwing out the first pitch at last night's Padres game. His #24 Padres jersey with the lightning bolt on it might be the coolest thing ever.

Giants make waiver claim on Cody Ross, potentially to block Padres
Ken Rosenthal says Giants put in a claim on Cody Ross of the Marlins. This would improve them if they can make a deal.

Show your twitter, tumblr, blog, but only if you want to
So it's an off day and that's lame, but it doesn't need to be. We can still share opinions about stuff and find out what we all had for lunch. Do you have a twitter? Got a blog? Tell us about it in the comments. It doesn't have to be baseball-related, of course.
Here's my twitter
Here's my blog on tumblr
I've shown you mine, now you show me yours.
Today is the MLB All-Star game. So in honor here is the San Diego Chicken at the 50th MLB All-Star Game in 1979. Best mascot in sports.

A Don Coryell story from my Dad
Hey guys,
Here's a cool story about Don Coryell that my Dad emailed out to his friends and I thought I'd share here.
Most of you know what a big sports fan I am, with season tickets to just about everything under the sun. I just heard about the passing of Don Coryell earlier today (our great football coach going back to the 60s and 70s at San Diego State, then later with the SD Chargers team), and yes, its got me thinking back about a lot of things. Some friends and I were at a SDSU Aztecs basketball game back in January and the coach was at the game, looking a bit frail, in a wheel chair, and the word was he was in town visiting his family and in need of some special medical care. Everybody was coming up to him to say hello and chat and he was alert and gracious. I just enjoyed watching that and just seeing him again for what I hoped wasn't the last time.

A call to arms to all Padres fans from my Dad
Hey friends,
As some of you know, I get my die-hard fandom from my Dad. A couple of you have met him. Just like you, he's pretty psyched about the upcoming series against the Dodgers and is hoping for a packed and loud Petco. Unlike some hacks who seem to think Padres fans are dissing the team, Dad would like to take this opportunity to "rally the troops" and get the masses pumped for our first place team. Without further ado, here's his message:

Gentlemen, start your BEARDS!
It's May 1. You know what that means here at Gaslamp Ball. We grow beards. Why? Because the Padres do well in May and our facial hair helps with that. Duh!

Beer Summit with GM Jed Hoyer
The good folks at XX1090 put on a really cool Beer Summit with Jed Hoyer last Saturday and I was lucky enough to attend. How'd I get access to such an exclusive event? Twitter prowess, obviously. Just follow Marty Caswell of the Darren Smith Show and you might get an opportunity to go to a future Summit. Below are some more pics and a few highlights from the conversation with Jed.

The LA Urban Iditarod: drunks, shopping carts, and costumes
For the uninitiated, the Urban Iditarod is an event where young people dress up in costumes (equivalent of 'dogs') and push shopping carts (the 'sled') full of beer and other sundries through a city, causing a ruckus and having fun. It's pretty big in Portland and is similar to San Fran's Bay to Breakers. I've been going to the LA version for the past few years and was lucky (?) enough to survive another experience earlier this month.

Pancake House in El Cajon has good pancakes and hilarious Padres magnet schedules
Before golfing this morning I went to breakfast with my Uncle and Dad. Ever been to The Pancake House in El Cajon? It's decent food and has an awesome old-school, mom-and-pop vibe. The median age when I was there was at least 57. Ever need to feel young? Go there! Anyways, as we were leaving, my Uncle saw some Padres magnet schedules they were giving away to customers.
Score! I love magnets, calendars, and the Padres. We grabbed them and most everything checked out. There was a Padres logo, a calendar with dates and games on it, but upon further inspection there was something VERY FISHY about their artwork choices.
Here's Magnet 1. If you think it looks suspiciously like St. Louis, don't worry, you're not crazy. San Diego has some cool sights, but the Gateway Arch isn't one of them.
