After review and discussion with the umpire, we have determined that the call itself of a fair ball was correct. However, while making the call, there was an incorrect mechanic,… which appeared to confuseSan Diego’s base runners. At no time did the umpire verbally kill the play on the field. After reviewing the entire situation following the game, the umpire realizes his hands were in an exaggerated upward appearance similar to a call that would indicate a dead ball. While we all agree that it was a fair ball that did not hit the batter, the umpire recognizes that the proper mechanic was not executed as he tried to avoid the catcher."

These are trying times for Maloof
If an arena plan doesn't happen, and the NBA owners block a move, the Maloofs' ultimate hole card could be to sue, claiming an antitrust violation.

Casspi On Bulls Radar
HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – The start of a New Year also signals the beginning of our third-favorite season here at the hideout, trade rumor season.
King of the Ladder
Dec. 30 -- Blake Griffin's Video ridiculous dunk over Timofey Mozgov has been anchored to the No. 1 spot on the Ladder for five weeks now. But no more. Wednesday night's Video wild finish in Sacramento vaults the Kings' Tyreke Evans to the top spot.
Buzzer-beaters come and go, but for degree of difficulty, game situation and overall did-you-see-that! factor, Evan's midcourt shot at the buzzer is one for the books. Our NBA.com colleague and All Ball blogger Micah Hart even awarded Evans' shot an unprecedented Five Horry's on the Horry Scale. Not a bad way to (almost) close out 2010.
Jorge Cantu Receiving Interest From Padres, Diamondbacks
Free-agent infielder Jorge Cantu is drawing strong interest from two NL West clubs -- the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks -- a source told FanHouse.
Evans to miss time?
After snagging the Rookie of the Year award for the 2009-10 season, Tyreke Evans has gotten off to a slow start in 2010-11.
Part of his regression has been due to some nagging injuries: He's dealing with plantar fasciitis and a sprained ankle.
And according to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com, it looks like it may be time for Evans to rest.
"Evans may skip games to deal with plantar fasciitis, sprained ankle," he tweeted. "He already wears splint at night and may use a walking boot."
The Kings are off to a rough 4-12 start, and though Evans isn't playing at his highest level, losing their star would obviously still be a blow.
If Evans indeed misses some games, Beno Udrih or Francisco Garcia could replace him in the starting lineup at the 2 alongside Luther Head at the 1. Head has started the last several games at point guard for Sacramento.

Lakers at Sacramento: What to watch
Lakers perspective on tonights game. Video response from Blake in regards to guarding Evans.
"while the Arco crowd isn't quite what it once was -- "I haven't heard them in a long time," Bryant said Tuesday of the once-ubiquitous Sacto cowbells -- they'll be fired up for this one."
When the Minnesota Timberwolves shipped Al Jefferson to the Utah Jazz this offseason, the belief was that the move was made to make power forward Kevin Love -- who didn't fit well alongside the similarly-skilled Jefferson -- a focal point of the team in 2010-11.
Well, that didn't last long. Love was benched for the final eight and a half minutes of the T-Wolves' one-point loss to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. Love finished with only 24 minutes, while reserve Anthony Tolliver played 28. Coach Kurt Rambis said the move had to do with Tolliver's stellar defensive play, and not anything that Love -- widely considered to be his team's best player -- was doing wrong.
However, Tom Ziller of FanHouse.com notes that the Love-less defense gave up 18 points on 16 possessions down the stretch with the power forward out of the game. Ziller adds that with the move making little practical sense, it appears as though Rambis is trying to somehow distance himself from Love. "I'm sitting here wondering how long it will be until K-Love is run out of town the way Al Jefferson was," Ziller writes.
Love didn't talk to reporters after the game, but it's safe to say that the forward is unhappy with being banished to the bench during the game's most critical portion. If this situation doesn't get fixed quickly, it wouldn't be shocking to see Love start to clamor for a trade.

Innings Limits Loom Over Young Pitchers in Playoff Races
As the Padres tick off the days toward what looks like an improbable division title, they are going to face an ironic challenge.
They must find a way to put the least stress on the pitchers -- specifically Mat Latos -- who are responsible for getting them this far.
Can the Padres keep it up?
Throughout August, ESPN.com will take a close look at various teams in the hunt for a playoff spot to assess whether they have what it takes to survive the dog days of August and remain in contention come October.
At the bottom of the page, each team will receive a dog bone rating based on our overall analysis: five bones = serious postseason contender; four bones = good contender; three bones = average contender; two bones = poor contender; one bone = no contender.
StR site visits, gauging interest.
I was curious if we had any data similar what BFTB has done in this post?
It seems like there is much more interest surrounding the team and I think it would be interesting to see site visit's per month. Not sure if Ziller or Aykis have access to this info, but would be a solid piece of data to glance back at at various points of the season.
We could use google analytics but that is not really looking at "apples to apples". Let me know if their is another tool to gather this data, and I would be happy to do the analysis.
ESPN: Redeem Team out of sight, out of mind

At the All-Star Break, Looking Forward to the Second Half
One of the other surprising teams this year has been the San Diego Padres. They have ridden the arms of their great young pitching led by Mat Latos. The Padres have given up 304 runs so far this year, significantly less than any team in baseball. By comparison, the Diamondbacks' pitchers have given up 504 runs which is an amazing 200 more than the Padres. WOW!!!
Great analysis of the Webber Interview
