My three sports heroes when I was a kid were Ted Gregory, Daryl Johnston and the man who made #5 great at Syracuse. Todd Philcox.

Okay, okay, you win. The FIRST qb to make #5 great for Syracuse, I concede, was Bill Hurley.

a fan of

Syracuse Orange NCAA Men's Football Division 1A Team

Syracuse Orange NCAA Men's Basketball Division 1 Team

New Jersey Devils National Hockey League Team

Basically saying that everyone should relax, we really don't know anything yet. They have also mentioned the fact that this has already been investigated a number of times, which nothing incriminating being found.

A photo of the SU defense from the WVU game is used in this article. Smart Football is a great site for football X and O nerds and this post talks about attacking some new-fangled blitzes that SU uses and Wake Forest, among others, have against the Orange this year. Interesting reading, especially with blitz-happy, run-happy Louisville up tomorrow.

I know, sometimes life gets in the way. Things happen: bye weeks, personal lives and such, and one forgets to keep voting every day for HCDM for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. I admit I have been slacking off lately and I know I'm not alone. HCDM was once ranked seventh, now is ranked 12, behind Ellerson of Army (who has been blown out by Northern Illinois, Ball State and Miami of Ohio), some guy from Louisiana Lafayette (!) and DANA HOLGORSEN. You know what to do. Go to it. Each day. Every day. ¡Viva la revolución anaranjada!

Dunno if this is true or not, but...

Also, I was hoping WVU would end up coming with us... they've been a steady rival for years in football (and now hoops) and have been the class of Big East Football for years now. I would really miss playing them.

Well, this morning, Andrea Adelson weighed in on our leaving the Big East. Now is it me, or is she being a little overly self righteous about this thing? It's business. It's not personal... and given the climate in college football, I can't say it's surprising nor would I tut-tut WVU for looking at the SEC; Rutgers has been trying to play footsie with the Big Ten for years now. So is it um, kinda bullshit for someone who has been covering the Big East for all of nine or so months and who has demonstrated repeated cluelessness (eg. ranking us twenty points behind Akron a year ago - nope, not letting it go, not now) and really isn't impressing anyone with her work on the Big East to get so goddamm holier than thou over a business decision that plenty of other conference members have been thinking about making - only SU and Pitt made first? Am I over reacting by being royally pissed?

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Conference Realignment Poll: Which blogger do we want covering our conference?

Lost in the conference shuffle and the thoughts of bowls, money, and rivalries to be lost or gained is the simple truth that, just like "when you marry someone, you marry their family", when you join a collegiate athletic conference, you marry that conference's ESPN blogger.  Literally.  Blood test and everything.

So while we all have differing preferences as to where we want to be in the whole Big East vs. ACC thing, which significant blogger/other do we want to gaze at across the breakfast table each morning and read their take on our Orange?

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician UConn vs. Fordham 1st Half thoughts

I have to admit I’ve been curious what Coach P and DeLeone would be doing with the UConn offense… I mean it’s been seven years since their final season at SU, they had to pick up a few new things along the way, right?

"Kemba Walker willed UConn to an unprecedented title run in the Big East tourney."

...from ESPN.com. Was this REALLY all that unprecedented?

Here it is in black & white: TCU 21, Wisconsin 19

Ha! That ought to shut up all the Big East critics. Wait, what?
What about the Fiesta Bowl?

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Quint Kessenich delivers some lacrosse homoeroticism

Now that hoops season is over for the Orange and Devo homoeroticism is no longer in season, Quint Kessenich of InsideLacrosse.com, fills in the, uh, gap, with this blurb about the Princeton Tiger lacrosse team:

Princeton may have the nation’s best short stick defensive midfield with Josh Lesko and Brendan Reilly. I’m excited to watch their young poles take on Syracuse on Saturday in Giant’s Stadium.

Quint may have wanted to slip in a "no homo" somewhere just to be safe.

Having just re-read this post, I'm going to slip in a "no homo", just to be safe.  No homo.

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Doug Marrone is a homer

from the Ithaca Journal:

"I always tell people, I've been a part of big games, the NFC Championship Game, playoff games, bowl games, Tennessee-Alabama, Georgia-Florida, all these games.

"People ask, ‘What's the biggest game you've been in?' I say, ‘Cortland State-Ithaca.'

AWESOME.

Since I need 30 more words to publish this, I'll say that I've always felt the Dutchmen Shoes game (RPI vs. Union) trumps the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party (two southern schools) any day of the week.  You know how many people you can fit into the pedestrian walkways overlooking the 86 Field in Troy?  LOTS of people... I mean LOTS of people.  Lots.

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician More Michigan Denial

More amazing attempts of UM fans to distance themselves from reality:

I also think we can't underestimate the fact that Rodriguez coached against Robinson for a few years. I imagine you learn a lot about a guy when you've had to break down film and scheme against him. I also imagine Rodriguez must think Robinson is good against the spread, which is, after all, the offense run by more than half of U of M's schedule at this point.

On that note:   BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA   BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAA   BWAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAA

or:   Given that we don't throw $1million+ at coordinators (thus eliminating Holt-esque types), it seems the next best thing to do is to hire a former superstar whose chips are down. Surely GR has a chip on his shoulder and wants to improve his reputation after the past four years. That certainly plays to our advantage.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...   (pant), (pant) BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Now, I'm sorry to be a jerk, I think Greg Robinson is a good man and I wish him well, I really do.  And I have a lot of respect for UM.  But when I see this:   That said, I think RR wanted a DC Emeritus: someone not to recruit or propose schemes, but to TEACH TACKLING

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

oh, goodness me.  Sleep well, you naive, adorable little wolverine fans...
