The Angry Pirate vs the Riverboat Gambler
I was thinking about how often Leach would go for it on 4th down so I decided to see how Tubs went for it at Auburn over the few years. I definitely won't miss the "let's line up under center, try to draw them offsides, and blow a timeout when it doesn't work" that Leach would try every game. I also won't miss 4th and 3 (or longer) QB sneaks and going for it from your own 29 in the first quarter. Either way, here's what I found:
A quick comparison of 4th down attempts/conversions/conv %/(national rank for conv %) of TTU and Auburn from 2005-2008 (data not easily available before 2005):
Texas Tech
2008...16 of 27 65.38% (19th)
2007...19 of 31 61.30% (23rd)
2006...11 of 23 47.83% (66th)
2005...14 of 18 77.80% (3rd)
Total...60 of 99 60.60%
Auburn
2008...5 of 12 41.67% (81st)
2007...13 of 19 68.4% (6th)
2006...11 of 14 78.6% (2nd)
2005...9 of 13 69.20% (7th)
Total...38 of 58 65.52%
Conclusion
While Tuberville doesn't go for it as often, he's just as successful (if not slightly more successful) than Leach was on 4th down. If you remove their outlier year (2008 for Auburn, 2006 for Tech) then the numbers look like this:
Texas Tech...49 of 76 64.47% success rate
Auburn...33 of 46 71.74% success rate
Remember that 2008 was the year of multiple offensive changes at Auburn when they tried out Tony Franklin for half a season before reverting back to their old offensive ways. 2006 for Tech was the first year with a then Sophomore QB Graham Harrell at the helm and the road was rather bumpy at times that season. I wish I could pull more data from prior years to see if Tubs was as successful prior to 2005.
Pics from OU game
I have some pics posted on the blog from Saturday's game. I'm getting up a few a day as I have time to go through them. I'm limited to shooting from the 27th row so I can't get the best shots...but I try to get a few good ones here and there. I'll post more as I have the chance. If you want a copy of any of them in full size...reply with your e-mail addy and I'll send the file(s).

Tickets to Texas game for sale
I have 2 tickets that I need to sell for Saturday's game in Austin. I bought them through the TT Athletic Office so they are in a Texas Tech section. The seats are Section 126 Row 20. I also have a parking pass for the Manor Garage. The Manor Garage is right next to the stadium and is the closest possible parking area that one can purchase. Currently this pass is at a ticket office in downtown Austin a few minutes from the stadium. You can pick it up there on Saturday morning or I can have it mailed to you. I believe they said it is $12 for 2nd day or about $16 for overnight.
Please make me an offer if you are interested. I paid $226 for everything originally but am willing to accept less as long as I know that the tickets will be used. Your offer will include both tickets and the parking pass. Thanks for the help!
