thought i would start a diary about our favorite names in baseball over the years. names that you have liked at some point in you life as a baseball fan. they don't even have to be spectacular a la placido polanco (though that is a great one), in fact the two players whose names spawned this idea were not bizzare, i just liked them as a youngster: leon durham and tito landrum. When i was a young i always thought leon durham just sounded bad-ass, like some super-hero i wanted to be. and tito, i just liked saying his name, it was fun. tito landrum.

so there you go, those are my two, what are yours?

Shields compared to Reyes

Read this about James Shields on the Rays Official site. As discussed on this site, he and ol Anthony are similar pitchers (except when it comes to the little thing called repetoire). Perhaps next year for Reyes will be similar to the way Shields is pitching now. Though it probably will be with another team...

here's the excerpt:

Shields is aware that the word is out about his devastating changeup.

"I know these teams have the scouting report on me and these teams are looking for the changeup, they're sitting on changeup," Shields said. "I think the difference between this year and last year [is that] I've been able to throw my curveball for strikes -- and I throw a cutter now."

In his last outing against Cleveland, Shields said he threw just 14 fastballs out of 112 pitches.

"I threw a lot of cutters," Shields said. "And the reason was they weren't making the adjustment. I didn't want to change my game plan because they weren't hitting it. ... It's hard to really sit on one pitch when you're throwing four different pitches. I've never done that before. It was actually kind of weird."
