There's a lot of talk about how worthy various players since 1977 are of Hall of Fame induction. Have the various Veterans committees missed on anyone? I'm just going to throw out names of...
Porter played on the first West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx team back in 1998.
I was very surprised to see how many combos that were exclusively or partially in the free agent era were at or near the top. I counted six of the top eleven. Four of those six combos spent all of their time together in the free agency era.
This clip has a recording of Milo Hamilton and Lou Boudreau calling the last out of the clinching game in Pittsburgh on September 24, 1984. Yes, I know a lot of Cubs fans don't like Milo.

This is the 2013 schedule of the maybe future Midwest League class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The Cougars are in Peoria, May 22-24 and July 27-29.

Lea was an analyst on radio for the Memphis Redbirds. He was also a pitcher for the Expos and Twins in the 1980's. He pitched a no-hitter and won an All-Star Game.
Granted, this is a Memphis-centric story. He pitched a no-hitter and won an All-Star Game. It's sad to see somebody like this pass away at a relatively young age. R.I.P. Charlie Lea.

The Carolina Mudcats are moving to Pensacola for the 2012 season.
It's hard to believe that both Skip Caray and Ernie Johnson, Sr. are gone now. I saw a lot of Braves games on TV growing up in the 1980's. Pete Van Wieren is no longer broadcasting. John Sterling has been with the Yankees since 1989.
The Smokies will end the 2012 regular season at Pensacola playing the Blue Wahoos. The Carolina Mudcats are moving to northwest Florida next season.
This play was called an error, then a hit, then an error again. The Memphis Redbirds are reportedly going to appeal the call. Luis Mendoza was the pitcher for Omaha, who is currently credited as having thrown a no-hitter Monday. John Guinozzo has been the official scorer for Memphis pro baseball teams for about 40 years.
This is a might off the wall but still interesting.

The Smokies and Cubs already had an agreement through 2012. This is a two-year extension of that through 2014.
