I'm a die hard Islander fan no matter where I am living. Right now that happens to be Lindenhurst, NY but that could change. I could quite possibly be the only Islander fan in all of Austin.

The Dallas selection has been made at the LHH Mock draft.
Thank you to everyone for their input and let me know what you think if you have an opportunity. You can find the link to the post here.
LHH Mock Draft: Pick 14 to the Dallas Stars
The disclaimer that I will throw in here before the pick is that I believe that Jamison Oleksiak is the prime target for GM Joe. He appears to have the makings of a perfect pick for GM Joe Nieuwendyk in that he is BIG, talented and in the USHL. This appears to be a pretty highly regarded aspect of GM Joe's picks. Thanks to the fine people at Defending Big D for that information.
This draft will go a long way into Joe's insight as to what he is looking to do with the team due to his history. In the past 2 drafts he has only had 5 picks. Therefore it will be interesting to see if he sticks with all of his picks or if he wheels and deals.
So with the 14th pick in the 2011 draft the Dallas Stars are happy to select...
Isles fan needing input for a mock draft we are doing at Light House Hockey..
Hey, we are doing a mock draft at Light House Hockey (Islanders blog) and I am acting on Joe Nieuwendyk's behalf. Although Dallas is my west coast favorite I am having a hard time figuring out which way Joe would go in the draft. I know that he only had 5 picks in each of the last two drafts and you seem to be getting younger. With that I must ask, would you have any idea what way Joe may be leaning if he doesn't trade the pick?
I read another post that stated that he is looking for the bigger D men and that he is not afraid to go after the smaller but skilled O. If he does go after front man I would guess that the Stars would go after Sven Bartschi or Joel Armia. What are your thoughts?
I'm thankful for any input.
In light of the recent events that took place, and the division that it may have caused across the NHL, how do you think these events change the landscape of FA's available to the Isles in this upcoming off season?
Wake Up Call for NHL Marketing Department / Networks
The NHL received the highest ratings (6 share) in 11 years for the opener to Lord Stanley's finals between Chicago and Philadelphia. This was followed by the highest ratings in recorded history for game two (7 share). Here is to hoping that the NHL can understand that there is more to the NHL than the Red Wings, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. The fact that there seems to be a renewed interest in the sport should motivate Bettman and the marketing department to seek networks which are more willing to accommodate the NHL. With issues such as airing multiple overtimes and featuring more than one game a week, which will most likely feature Pittsburgh, Detroit or Washington, could become water under the bridge. This recent success can also help the Versus channel with contract negotiations which could further strenthen the NHL presence. Unfortunately there is the original 6 issue. This whole situation can be written off to a case of Chicago having a team in the finals for the first time since the days of Belfour, Roenick and Chelios. However the youth of Chicago's team could tell a different story. Let's face it, who has been big for Chicago? It hasn't been Huet, Kane and Toews as far as the announcers are concerned. It has been Byfuglien, Brouwer and Niemi. What casual fan knew those names before the series started let alone the season? Can the NHL figure out that there are more than 3 teams in the league? Seeing how they have just scheduled Pittsburgh and Washington for their next Winter Classic it is hard to believe that anyone in their marketing department can see past 23 players.
Elisha Cuthbert recently appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show (althought he was dressed up as Jay Leno so that he doesn't lose his show to him) and she spoke about her relationship with Dion Phaneuf. Not only did the audience almost go silent when she cheered the fact that she was dating Dion but she said that they had a mutual respect for each other. I wonder if she respects him while delivering elbows to the heads of unsuspecting players. More importantly, I wonder if she will be at the Coliseum on 3/25/2010 to witness the mutual respect that the Islanders have with Dion.
