Mavs Moneyball How much should we trust the Mavs' front office?

Are we sure this Pat Riley type of approach to the next free agency is the right one? I'm no English major but I think the expression I'm looking for here might be "putting all the eggs in one basket", am I right? Was this the plan all along? Will it be worth compromising this whole season? Notice I didn't say "throwing away", but "compromising", because I think this team has enough to go for a repeat as it is.

But looking ahead to the next couple of seasons, Dirk Nowitzki's last couple of seasons, what if Deron Williams ends up signing somewhere else? I've had my mind set in Deron-to-Dallas-is-a-done-deal mode for a while now, but it would suck to see Dirk spending his last seasons without the All-Star caliber player he needs to extend his already-extended prime, in a middle-of-the-pack team that doesn't deserve him, like Steve Nash in Phoenix.

I'm confident Pick-and-Pop City will happen, but if it doesn't, what's the plan?

The Mavs gave away some players for absolutely nothing but cap space, like Corey Brewer and Rudy Fernández, and the chance to draft others, like Chandler Parsons or Isiah Thomas, both of whom are getting major minutes right now and are producing. Parsons is having a better season than Lamar Odom, for about 30 times less money, putting up stats, playing crunch-time defense on guys like Kobe, embarrasing the best shotblocker in the league, and being generally awesome. Thomas would have been the perfect replacement for JJ Barea, without the need to pay him the money JJB wanted to stay. He just burned San Antonio for almost 30. Dallas could have had both, at a ridiculously low price for their production, and still kept the powder dry to reload in a huge way through free agency. As you may or may not remember, the Mavs traded a late 1st rounder for Rudy and then traded Rudy and Brewer for a late 2nd rounder in one of the most baffling offseason moves I can remember. Just because the Mavs' FO thought gutting the team for a shot at a 3D (Dirk, Deron, Dwight) dynasty was worth it. It was, but it backfired, and now it's Deron or Bust.

Now that Dwight decided to stay one more year with the Magic we know 3D won't happen (it wasn't happening anyway, but still), so we're left with only one way to stay relevant: the realistic, yet obviously not confirmed possibility of Deron in a Mavs uniform, and all the options having 2 superstars in the team will open up. But if it doesn't happen? Rebuilding time. It will be a more enjoyable rebuilding process than it would have been with naked fingers, but still.

I would hate to see Deron in Brooklyn while the Mavs go back to the bottom. It's gonna be Cold War II for Deron, folks. Get ready.

Sonicsgate, or how to steal an NBA team.

Canis Hoopus Well, this is really embarrasing but it's the right thing to do

I apologize to all T-Wolves fans and SBN posters in general for my words in the Mavs blog. That was a really stupid thing to say, and even more considering how well you guys treat me when I stop by when our teams play. Anyone can have a bad day but it’s no excuse for saying something like that. There no reason to act like I was in the Amsterdam or the Abdón Porte watching Nacional (uruguayan soccer reference).

Also, please don't judge the whole Mavericks SBN community for my stupid comments. They don't deserve it.

Again, my apologies. This whole situation really taught me a lesson.

25 points on 14 shots with 8 rebounds and a sick dunk over Chris Kaman.

That sound you just heard was me jumping through a window.

Mavs Moneyball We need CHANGES

We need a trade. We need Monta or Maggete or Kevin Martin or Caron Butler.

Terry is DONE. He is killing this team. I know it's hard to find takers for his awful contract to get someone who contributes, but then the Mavs' FO should push the button and try to trade Howard's expiring for a consistent, versatile scorer to take the offensive load off Dirk's back. It's not that Howard is sucking as much as Terry is, it's just that he's the guy who I think may seem more attractive to possible trade partners.

It's infuriating that the Mavs wasted two nice trade assets to do Najera (an ex player, fan-favourite or not) the favor of getting him out of NJ. They tried to get Boozer, yes, but that offer they made was a total joke.

I don't know. Please, Donnie, Cuban, make something happen. Last night wasn't just another loss. It was a sign that the Lakers, even short-handed, are too much for the Mavs, and on top of that, the rest of the West is getting closer. We can get 10x50, we can get the 2nd seed, but we are not winning the freaking championship with this inconsistent, streaky, effort-less roster.

Mavs Moneyball Nathan Jawai

What about him? Can he get a spot in the final roster? I've seen him play in Argentina and he was good enough to at least consider him. They even beat my national team.

I think Buckner and Humphries will leave and I hope we can get rid of Caroll's contract. Basically I hope the Mavs pack 'em in exchange for a decent rotation player at least (even with an awful contract).

Jawai is big, can play C and is very athletic. The Mavs should keep him around and see if he's ready for some NBA minutes.
