Question about WAR
Does 1 WAR for a pitcher translate exactly as 1 WAR for a hitter? How do the weight of pitching stats compare to the weight of hitting stats? And what about fielding?
TMZ reports John Lackey is divorcing his cancer striken wife
I'm not sure if it is true and there aren't many details but he seems to be living up to his douche-bag name around these parts.
Brandon McCarthy and Amanda McCarthy on the SI Hotclicks Podcast
From Jimmy Traina
"A couple of weeks ago, in the "Today on Twitter" feature in P.M. Hot Clicks, I linked to this Tweet from Amanda McCarthy to her husband, A's pitcher Brandon McCarthy. It was then that I knew I had to get them on The Hot Clicks Podcast. Truth be told, I was following Brandon on Twitter for a while before that, and he's easily one of the best athletes to follow on Twitter. (His sample Tweets: "You know when you play 'Risk' and the board gets to the point where you realize you won't win? It's a good analogy for my eyebrows & face." And, "I didn't set out to test the absorbency of my underwear today but by God that's what I've done. #humidity-notpee"). And after noticing that Brandon was one of the very few athletes who actually banters back and forth with his wife, I was hoping they'd bring some of that to the podcast -- and they did. So, if you want to hear about what marriage is like for a Major League player and his wife and then hear said husband and wife bicker and argue (in an amusing way), listen to the interview below or download it on iTunes."

DLD 01/19/2011 - It's Been a while.
There hasn't been a fresh DLD in almost a week and I haven't posted a link dump myself in 10 months. I probably should be working right but I was only up for a half day today anyways so I will make up for it later this afternoon. I saw a few articles on the side bar that inspired me to make this dump.

From Sailors to Sox - GOG #47
GOG #37 - Texas comes to Oakland - My GOG hand feels weak :-(
LINKS
GOG #36 - The Royals series must have been easy to predict because a score of 20+ was had by a lot GOGers
GOG Reporting Tool (opens in a new window)
Leaderboard - Vignette17 is back on top with 27 points scored in the last GOG and Where's My Burrito scoring 7 in a pre-question, no look bid. Also, nevermoore has taken my bronze medal for the time being :-( and Paris scored a 2010 record 34 points.
Probable Pitchers - This was dishearting to read, the Rangers pitchers going against the A's have good career numbers against Oakland, AND good numbers in their recent starts. At least OAK starters have been strong lately.

GOG #33 The Sox Change Color (updated with answers from Paris)
LINKS
GOG Reporting Tool (opens in a new window)
We have a new overall points leader! Where's My Burrito? has overtaken vignette17 after big V scored less than 10 points for the first time since GOG# 17 (not counting the missed GOG). That was 14 straight GOGs, in which he/she posted answers, with at least 10 points scored. (Bonus points! Does vignette17 score 10 or more points in GOG 33? (1 point total) (I will label this "the secret question" and see how many people post a guess in their original guesses.)

GOG #16 BAL vs OAK. No catchy title here but games start @ 4:05 PST.
LINKS
GOG #15
(Don't forget to check your answers, #7 was updated)
I'm sorry this wasn't posted sooner and doesn't contain any unique questions but a big time family crisis hit this weekend (as I mentioned in the DLD on Sat) and it has been crazy. If someone wants to proof read my questions I would welcome the help.

GOG 2010 #1 - Somebody had to step up - Updated with Answers!
There has been much discussion about this year's GOG since Colin needs to buckle down and complete his thesis. I would like to see the GOG continue but don't really want to do every series and I have no idea how to make fancy graphs to keep scores BUT in the interest of time I would like to submit this as GOG #1 for the 2010 season. We can always update things as we go along but at least this gives us a little breathing room to find out how we run things. I stole some of the format and questions from a GOG Colin did last season for a series against the Mariners so it might look familiar. I did take out the possibility of getting negative points in the interest of keeping scoring easier. If someone else has put together something better let me know and I can delete this.

WLD - Random stuff
Fine LB, I will put up a DWLD. I'm not really inspired by any one thing but saw a few things in my internet travels this week.

WLD - 3/20/10 - Weekend Link Dump or Weekly Link Dump? Basically it's all movie stuff regardless of what this dump is called.
It has been a while since a fresh link dump was made. Sure we could keep commenting on the old one but people tend to lose interest in going here after it has been a few days. I notices a flurry of friday night activity but I think that was mostly the alcohol typing. It also has been a while since I have posted a link dump, so I guess I'm due. This won't be an epic iglew DLD or massive LB thread about squirrels but hopefully it will get you through the weekend.

Who wants to see Chavez hit a HR?
can't link a single video but this the A's video page.
A's Video Highlights from 8-7 win over brewers
They show Sheets lone K, Eric Chavez make a nice play at 1B, Chavez hit his triple, and Rajai make a pretty, diving catch in LF and then pop-up in a cool karate/surfing pose. No sign of Buck’s HR or Recker’s 3 run bomb but it was still worth checking out

Spring Training Picture Slideshow
Pictures from ST, careful because the last 20 or so are Giants photos.
Fuson and Giese back in the fold
Oakland also signed right-hander Dan Giese to a minor-league deal. Giese had reconstructive elbow surgery while with the A's last year but he is on track to be pitching in games again by mid-May.
Former A's scouting director Grady Fuson is expected to rejoin the team this month as an adviser to general manager Billy Beane, team sources confirmed.

Low-budget A's stay off union's list + other revenue sharing related articles
As to why the A's didn't make the union's hit list, Beane said, "It's never been an issue with us. We spend what we have. That's why you never see our name mentioned."

Canseco responds to McGwire's claims
Not surprising but Canseco has already responded to McGwire's claim that he is lying about injecting each other with roids. As much as I hate to admit this, I think Canseco is telling the truth and the McGwire is lying. I just can't believe that Mac hid his use from everyone and I heard from an ESPN reporter that players have told him that they have disscussed steroid and HGH use with McGwire specifically after the 1998 season.
Fresh DLD 01/06/10 - Nothing Fancy
I think everyone pretty much knows what they will find in a DLD written by micdog2001; movies, video games, webcomics, yahoo front page stories, spelling errors, and geeky stuff. I can't promise all those things today, I just wanted to post a link to a movie trailer and the last DLD is old and slow (still a good DLD but AN loses interest quickly).
(side not, whenever AN'ers references me they always type "micdog" sans 2001. I don't really mind, I guess it just saves typing. Plus people hardly reference me because besides DLD's I don't do much around here so it is rare to see)
{additional side note, I pronounce it mick-dog-2001 because my name is Mickey. When I first got an e-mail address in high school I tried mickdog but it was already taken on yahoo so they suggested micdog2001. I didn't realize at the time that I could have picked a different number and kept the "k" but I've had it for so long now I don't want to change it}

1-on-1 interview with A's Ace Duchscherer
Mychael Urban interview. Fascinating stuff. Duke really opened up about his struggles with depression. Most of the stuff said was the same as the ESPN article about his depression but it still is bold of him to discuss it on TV. The contract talk was interesting also, I was right that he was trying to play for a team on the East Coast to be closer to his son but I guess he didn't get a good enough offer or wasn't going to get the oppurtunity to pitch that he wanted.

12/31/2009 Last DLD of 2009 - Nintendo Wii and the 10 best video games of all time (using stats)
It has been a while since a DLD was posted and I feel the need to post another. I've decided to finish my Nintendo video game posts (I'm going to skip handhelds because I don't have a ton of experience with them) with the Nintendo Wii and since most ANers seem to think Nintendo is lame now I'm also including a link about the greatest video games of all time.
Anyways, here is a summary of some of the leading Top 10s, as excerpted from various Top 100 lists.
I have tried to be as diverse and inclusive as possible in my selection of lists. Some will inevitably appear more credible than others, but my intent was quantity more than quality. By assembling a collection of lists that was as vast as possible, I was hoping to see if there appears to be any consensus as to what games truly are history's best. My findings come at the end.
His top 5 look pretty good to me but it somehow seems to lean towards older games rather than new ones.

DLD 12/17/09 - If you don't like this movie trailer I hate you and find you stupid
OK, OK I don't hate you or find you stupid if this doesn't make you want to see Iron Man 2. BUT I"M FREAKING OUT! Robert Downey Jr is back as Tony Stark and cooler than ever and WAR MACHINE IS HERE! Even Mickey Rourke as Whiplash and Scarlett Johansson as the black widow was pretty sweet. It also looks like Samuel L. Jackson will play his first "big" role as Nick Fury, which is nice. Here the wikipedia page on Iron Man 2.

DLD 12/11/09 - Fishing Bloopers and other vids
It is funny how a DLD gets stale and people stop posting links or checking links posted late. So I guess we need another one (and when I say "we" I mean "I"). It is also weird that I feel this need to share everything I find funny or ammusing with AN. A lot of times I post things on Facebook but the fact that my Mother, Father, Sisters, Aunts, Church friends, and my Pastor's wife are all my friends makes me think twice about what I post there. Some people are more sensitive to salty language, bathroom humor, etc. and will call you out when posting something they find offensive (thanks Mom).
Speaking of Facebook.

If someone gets tired of me posting these Link Dumps, WELL POST YOUR OWN! I haven't got around to doing the DLD with the Nintendo Wii angle yet but considering how many people thought the Gamecube was lame I doubt many people are waiting in anticipation for it. Anyways, here are some of the things that I have been wasting time on instead of sleeping/working.

DLD 12/08/09 - Stallone, Willis & Schwarzenegger! Now with a xkcd comic
I thought this xkcd comic would fit in nicely with the discussion
via imgs.xkcd.com
I had to make a DLD just for this. I was reading totalfilm.com's feature on the 49 films that will define 2010 and I saw this: The Expendables
The Talent: Directed by Sylvester Stallone, and starring every bicep in Hollywood.
The Pitch: Sylvester Stallone directs the ultimate ‘80s action flick 20 years too late: a crew of mean mercenaries head to South America to chew bubblegum, kick ass and overthrow a government.
The Hook: It’s a who’s-who of Hollywood hardmen: Stallone, Statham, Lundgren... Even Schwarzenegger and Willis. Expect muscle, fire, and brainless brilliance.

DLD 11/24/09 - Fine, I'll make another video game dump
What is all this talk about baseball on this site? :-) I guess no one has the time to post a DLD. I would think someone who has mentally checked out for the short week at work would have posted one. Well, if I'm doing it then you get video games as a topic. I saw this on yahoo's video game blog.
Man marries video game character
**UPDATE** This link now has video of the "ceremony".
That is kind of pathetic IMO.

DLD 11/17/09 - Nintendo 64 and a Nerd's top 10 Epic Movie Fights
Inspired by Sunday's release of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I will continue in my "series" of Nintendo console DLD's. If you didn't see in the last DLD, here was the "premiere" of the game in NYC. BUT I will save the Wii for another Daily Dump, keep your Wii discussions to "should I buy one" only. We can go in depth IF you want later.
Next up is the Nintendo 64. Ah 1996, such a good year :-)

Vote For A's relievers!
Andrew Bailey is up for Best Rookie and Michael Wuertz is up for best set-up man. They are the only A's up for any of the votes.
DLD 10/28/09 - Nintendo continued + a few other links
I was suprised at the amount of comments about video games in the last DLD (it's been 5 days and no one else has posted one?) and I only talked about the NES. I really wanted to go on to some of the other Nintendo systems, I guess if no one minds I will keep going. And for the people who are tired of video games I have a couple other links to provide.
I also wanted to congratulate myself on passing 3000 comments. Yay.
