Posting and Toasting U cryin over Donnie Walsh? C'mon Son

Ok like it or not Donnie Walsh is gone.  I admit i have never been a huge proponent of Donnie Walsh's decision making however the consensus across the net is that he allegedly did a good job in his short tenure as Knicks GM.  Some might say he turned the organization around and made them a playoff team again.  Really?  Despite the vitriol surrounding D. Walsh's departure the question whether he was the right man for the job is debatable.

Donnie Walsh came in to office in the beginning of the 2008-09 season.  Upon accepting the position he passed on hiring rookie coach Mark Jackson or  defensive guru Tom Thibodeau who would eventually go on to win coach of the year with the Bulls.  Instead Walsh decided his first move was to hire the veteran coach Mike D'antoni.  Many felt the Knicks needed a coach with a more defensive minded approach.  An emphasis on defense would fit better with the dynamic of New York City's traditional style of play and ultimately lead to winning.  Donnie made the call to adopt a new culture of run and gun offense from an "7 seconds or less"  style coach with success only out west.   Walsh then proceeded to dismantle a 2008-09 Knicks team that arguably had comparable talent to the current roster if not better.  (I.e. Jamal Crawford won sixth man of the year, Zack Randolph & David Lee have both become All stars and Nate Robinson well.... he's still Nate. )   Let's not forget the exile of Stephon Marbury.  People might say he made those trades just to clear cap space for the pursuit of Lebron.   Indeed he did and he also lost.

Drafts picks

Walsh's first draft wasn't a total disaster due to his selection of fan favorite Danilo Gallinari but I think most Knicks fans would have preferred the talents of Eric Gordon.

The second draft was more of a debacle that had the Knicks drafting Jordan Hamilton and missing out on a league premier point guard in Brandon Jennings.  Toney Douglas has since become a solid contributor.

Landry Fields turned out to be a great pick with tons of potential however should have been packaged in the Carmelo trade instead of Gallinari.

Whatever, Im tired of guys who have been Knick fans for two minutes and think this guy was the friggin' NY savior.  At least he won't screw up this years draft.

Btw I hope they get Marshon Brooks.
