I am a 2013 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where I earned a degree in finance, marched in the Pitt Band, and helped to revitalize The Panther Pitt. I joined Cardiac Hill as a contributor in June 2011, with my writing focusing primarily on Pitt football. Outside of Pitt athletics, I am a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club, The Wall Street Journal, and colorful shorts above the knee.

How Much Is Pitt's Football Program Worth?

+

Last week, The Wall Street Journal published a pretty cool article assessing the value of college football's major programs (definitely worth checking out). The valuation was done based on revenues and expenses, and growth projections, among other factors. Out of 115 D-I teams examined, Pitt came in at 64th, with an estimated value of $61.9 million. The only two Big East teams lower were Syracuse and Cincinnati; Duke was the only ACC team below. The top spot goes to Texas, valued at $805 million. Yee-haw.

Liberty Bowl Will Take A Big East Team

3

According to CBS' Brett McMurphy, the Liberty Bowl will now take a Big East team since the SEC is unable to fill all of its bowl slots. If Pitt beats Syracuse on Saturday to become bowl eligible, this looks like a very possible destination for the Panthers. If Pitt were selected, the game is played on December 31 in Memphis against a Conference USA opponent. All things considered, this wouldn't be a horrible way to end the season.

The Geography of College Football Fans (and Realignment Chaos)

+

Two weeks ago, New York Times writer/statistician Nate Silver published a fascinating piece entitled "The Geography of College Football Fans (and Realignment Chaos)" which explores the size and location of college football fan bases around the country. It's not the most scientifically robust piece, but Silver does a brilliant job of piecing together what's probably a pretty accurate picture of the college football landscape. It's definitely a worthwhile read if you haven't seen it yet. In case you were wondering, Silver concludes that Pitt's fan base is 831,496 deep and ranks 37/120.

Report: WVU Rejected by SEC & ACC

17

According to a Brett McMurphy tweet, Big East sources are reporting that West Virginia University has been rejected for membership by both the SEC and ACC. If this turns out to be true, it's the perfect reason why critics of Pitt's ACC move are misguided; if you're not proactive, you can be left in the dust, no matter who you are.
