Assignment for lawyers (and anyone else interested in rules)
I know a lot of lawyers read this blog, and I think one of us should investigate this post on ShaggyBevo (I would, but I'm swamped through next week, which will be too late).
In a nutshell, the posters think they have found an error in the BCS rankings. They think that OU's 2008 probation might make it ineligible to be ranked in the Coaches Poll, and that the American Football Coaches Association has been erroneously including the team in this year's polls.
There's probably nothing to it, but someone with a few minutes to spare should take a look.

Yet another journalist in our corner.
Others have picked up on Schlabach's position. Here's another one from WSJ's Darren Everson:
By all rights, this shouldn't even be a debate. Texas beat Oklahoma. The Longhorns suffered the most defensible defeat of any title contender, a last-second loss at still-top-10 Texas Tech. And Mr. Stoops's argument doesn't fly. His logic about the Texas-Texas Tech-Oklahoma dynamic wouldn't compute if the three-way Big 12 South tie didn't include the Red Raiders. Well, the Red Raiders lost their shot at the national title. This is no longer a three-team debate. It's between two teams that already played each other. Mr. Stoops made an argument for parity with Texas. He can't make one for superiority.
This can't be bad for us.

Another Great Night for Garrett Gilbert
Lake Travis beat Cedar Park tonight 35-21. Gilbert completed 26/39 (66.7%) for 341 yards passing, and ran for 32 yards on 4 carries (8 ypc). Just one INT.
For reference, last week he threw 14/30 (46.7%) for 215 yards. The week before that he went 17/23 (73.9%) for 328.
Looks like the arm is fine.

Poll: Should Mack Offer Russell Shepard at QB?
I've seen a lot of debate over whether Mack should offer Russell Shepard at QB. Here are a few of the pros and cons:
Pros (pretty obvious, imo)
- He's a fantastic QB. As a junior, he put up 794 yards and 8 TDs passing, and 1525 yards and 18 TDs rushing.
- We need a backup plan in case GG has problems recovering from surgery.
- He's versatile, and he has already said he'd be happy to play WR or DB if he loses in the QB competition.
Cons
- We already have GG on the roster, and signing up two highly ranked QBs could lead to discontent on the team and among the fans.
- We can't afford to "waste" a scholarship on a position we don't need right now.
- If we offer Shepard, Gilbert may not come here.
- Although he's young and has great feet, his passing rate is only 40%.
This list obviously isn't exhaustive; it's just what comes immediately to mind. So, what do you think?
