Arrowhead Pride HUGE SALE at KCChiefs shop

Most everything in the online store is $6.99.

including some jerseys...

An FYI for all the AP fans out there.

And now I'm just typing to get my 75 words in.

Because even though I was trying to just post a bulletin to let folks know of some good deals, I'm relegated to typing away.

As far as that goes, I think I'm pretty close...

crap. I needed to post another 5 words and now I think I've got it.

Arrowhead Pride Ed Podolak "resigns" as color commentator for Iowa Hawkeyes

Longtime Iowa football radio color analyst Ed Podolak has announced his retirement.

In a joint statement released Wednesday by the university, Podolak said he has wrestled with retirement through the fall and moved his real estate business to Northern California.

Link to the post with the photos is here:

Funny stuff- except for Ed.

It's pretty clear he was "invited to resign" by the folks at the University

Arrowhead Pride Looking towards the future...

... with an eye on a trade.

This is likely coming from discussions on my recent trip to the Phoenix area to visit with old college friends, but I thought I'd throw it out there given our recent need for a QB.

What does the AP Nation think of the idea of trading LJ for Matt Leinart?

Here's my case-

AZ is going to need a RB.  They've got a quick back in Hightower, but their big back Edge is clearly on his last legs.

Leinart is on the outs.  Wisenhunt does not like him and doesn't want him.

LJ isn't doing anything on or off the field to endear himself to the KC fans or the organization.

Even if we draft a QB in the top of the draft next year, they shouldn't be the starter- we need someone to tend the position for a year or more.

Both teams are taking a risk with this trade.

The big contracts for both players look like they'd play out pretty evenly as far as cap hit goes.

So there it is AP Nation-  What do you think?

I've attached a poll for you all to quickly respond.

This trade idea is...

Arrowhead Pride Can we please...

...pack Herm into a car and drive him to Lawrence for a little coaching 'how to' from Bill Self???

I'm sitting in my office reading about KU's media day and stumble across this section of the article regarding their goals for the season:

----------------------------------

From www.kusports.com

“We won’t change what our goals are. Every year our goal is to win the league. At the end of the day, we want to play as close to our ceiling as possible. There’s nothing wrong with setting the bar high.”

That’s despite KU losing five starters off its title team.

“I don’t know what the ceiling is,” Self said. “We had a motto at Illinois when we started three freshmen and a sophomore: Youth is no excuse. We lost the Big Ten championship in the last second of the season. Just because we are young doesn’t mean we can’t be good. How good I have no idea. We don’t want to bail guys out of lofty expectations just because we are young.”

---------------------------------
Now it strikes me that all we've been hearing from Herm from the very end of last season was that our team was going to be young, that they were going to make mistakes and that we had to be patient.
The bailouts have been there from day one for our beloved Chiefs.
It seems to me that great head coaches demand excellence.  I continue my belief that Herm is not even a good head coach, much less a great one.
He can evaluate talent proficiently.  He can deliver a press conference soundbite.
Heck, he might even make a pretty good defensive coordinator.
He is not a good head coach.

Arrowhead Pride Bernard Pollard T-shirt

From the irreverent folks over at kissingsuzykolber dot com.

http://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2008/09/no-need-to-splurge-on-that-pollard-jersey.html

Not for the light-hearted, or those lacking in a cruel sense of humor...

So what I'm saying (just to fill the 75 word minimum) is that if you're a person who tends to be offended easily- stay away from their site.  You'll be a happier, less offended, and downright more pleasant fan.

If, however, you've caught yourself chuckling at someone's misfortune other than your own... well give it a try.

Arrowhead Pride KC Fan Favorite cut in Miami

From Profootballtalk.com

FINS BOUNCE BOOMER

Posted by Mike Florio on September 9, 2008, 12:36 p.m.

In an apparent effort to pump up a running game that was anemic on Sunday against the Jets, the Miami Dolphins have cut starting fullback Boomer Grigsby, according to David Neal of the Miami Herald.

Fullback Casey Cramer has been signed to take his place.

Grigsby is a former linebacker who converted to fullback last year in Kansas City.  He beat out Reagan Mauia for the job.

Cramer has connections to Fins offensive coordinator Dan Henning; they were together previously in Carolina.

Arrowhead Pride If I see Mike Solari on the street...

Arrowhead Pride Wesley Gone...

CHIEFS RELEASE SAFETY GREG WESLEY

Posted by Mike Tunison on July 17, 2008, 3:40 p.m.

League sources have told Pro Football Talk that the Kansas City Chiefs have released free safety Greg Wesley.

The 9th year safety, who has played his entire career to this point with the Chiefs, appeared in 15 games last season, started one and made 30 tackles. The Chiefs’ 3rd round pick in 2000 has 29 career interceptions.

Wesley, who is repped by Drew Rosenhaus, is expected to receive interest from a number of teams in the free agent market.

Rock Chalk Talk KU/UNC game kills Packer career???

In a delightful twist of fate, the KU Championship may have set the
table for CBS' removal of Billy Packer.

While most of us basketball fans had resigned ourselves to a few more
years of Billy Packer's inane ramblings, ACC bias, and his disdain for
the mid-major schools; CBS has remarkably sent ol' Billy out to
pasture with at least another year on his contract.

Arrowhead Pride Dolphins take Long... but not the one you'd think.

Interesting tidbit from SportsbyBrooks.com...

Looks like the first pick from the Fins would be a Long, but not the one they're negotiating with.

Have a look and see for yourself.

Arrowhead Pride Where are you regarding the #5???

I've given the draft a bit of thought over the past few days and I'm struggling to figure out what would make me the happiest.

Arrowhead Pride A flip of the coin...

The teams will meet at the combine this weekend and will hold the official coin flips which will determine our draft order 3-5.

As I remember, we can do no better than 4, but because of salary issues and desired player (Long) we're holding out for #5.

I can't seem to find the specifics of the flip- rules, order, why #5 is best.  Any comments clarifying would be welcomed.

Arrowhead Pride What the...

... H-E-double hockey sticks is Herm doing at ESPN on NFL Live tonight???

After a 4-12 season my head coach better get his sorry "not wantin' to get thrown out his and told to 'Get over it." butt out of Bristol Conn. and back to KC where he can. E breaking down practice film of our young guys, regular season and bowl footage of college jr's and sr's, and making phone calls for a decent OC.

If his soundbite regurgitating self wants to be on TV, he can submit his letter of resignation immediately, so we can start looking for our coach of the future.

Ugh. Seeing him there just ruined my night.

Arrowhead Pride Free Agent QB's

Alright... Assuming that Brodie continues his development throught the end of the season, we're still going to replace Huard.

We'll want someone as a backup, possibly someone who can push Brodie for the starting job.

There's going to be some big names out on the market.

Some likely possibilities are:
Donovan McNabb
Chad Pennington
Jake Delhomme
Alex Smith
Rex Grossman

I've already proclaimed my disdain for Pennington in other posts so I won't bore you with another diatribe...

Who are the possible QB's out there who would make the members of AP happy???

Personally I'm leaning towards Alex Smith of SF as someone with big upside.

Sound off on your thoughts...

Arrowhead Pride Priest Holmes Puff Piece

This is the Cover Story for ESPN- The Magazine this week.

While it's very similar to the Posnanski Star article from the end of the preseason, there are a few quotes from "inside Priest's inner circle"  Oooh.  Aaah.

No new news here.

Still doubt he'll ever touch the field.

Arrowhead Pride Offensive Playcalling

I'm not keen on Mike Solari's choices.  I'm unsure how much Herm's conservatism plays into the gameplan.

What I do know is that we don't have the weapons on the offensive side of the ball to play a "take what the defense gives us" sort of gameplan.  We have to be more aggressive in attacking their weaknesses.

Twice in the first quarter LJ and then once MB ran to the left side for gains over 6 yards...  WHY on EARTH did we abandon the run... moreso... Where was the play-action pass???

These little 2 to 3 yard slant patterns and dumpoffs underneath aren't going to work in Week 4.  Once a defensive coordinator worth his job get's the film and breaks down our tendencies, we're going to be as predictable as an episode of Scooby Doo.

The offense appears to be playing scared.

There seems to be no desire to dominate their opponents, to punch them in the mouth and enforce our will.

Field position football (Herm's game) only works if you're able to execute the gameplan.  It's a huge detriment if you get the ball in poor field position and you go 3 and out and then give it back to your opponent.

At this point they're not and it's brutal to watch.

Arrowhead Pride Priest on NFI vs. PUP

Apparently the designation is a technicality.

From Profootballtalk.com:

CHIEFS HAD NO CHOICE IN PUTTING PRIEST ON NFI

A league source explains to us that the Kansas City Chiefs were required by rule to put running back Priest Holmes on the non-football injury list.  Even though he is still recovering from an actual football injury, the fact that the injury wasn't suffered in 2007 or in 2006 makes it, by definition, a non-football injury.

The source says that Holmes' status is "the same thing" as if he were on the Physically Unable to Perform list.  If so, this means that Holmes must miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

Though teams are not required to pay players who are on the NFI list, the source says that Holmes will receive his weekly game checks.
