Ed Podolak "resigns" as color commentator for Iowa Hawkeyes

Longtime Iowa football radio color analyst Ed Podolak has announced his retirement.

In a joint statement released Wednesday by the university, Podolak said he has wrestled with retirement through the fall and moved his real estate business to Northern California.

... with an eye on a trade.

This is likely coming from discussions on my recent trip to the Phoenix area to visit with old college friends, but I thought I'd throw it out there given our recent need for a QB.

What does the AP Nation think of the idea of trading LJ for Matt Leinart?

Here's my case-

AZ is going to need a RB. They've got a quick back in Hightower, but their big back Edge is clearly on his last legs.

Leinart is on the outs. Wisenhunt does not like him and doesn't want him.

LJ isn't doing anything on or off the field to endear himself to the KC fans or the organization.

Even if we draft a QB in the top of the draft next year, they shouldn't be the starter- we need someone to tend the position for a year or more.

Both teams are taking a risk with this trade.

The big contracts for both players look like they'd play out pretty evenly as far as cap hit goes.

So there it is AP Nation- What do you think?

I'm sitting in my office reading about KU's media day and stumble across this section of the article regarding their goals for the season:

That’s despite KU losing five starters off its title team.

We lost the Big Ten championship in the last second of the season. Just because we are young doesn’t mean we can’t be good. How good I have no idea. Now it strikes me that all we've been hearing from Herm from the very end of last season was that our team was going to be young, that they were going to make mistakes and that we had to be patient.
The bailouts have been there from day one for our beloved Chiefs.
It seems to me that great head coaches demand excellence. I continue my belief that Herm is not even a good head coach, much less a great one.
He can evaluate talent proficiently. He can deliver a press conference soundbite.
Heck, he might even make a pretty good defensive coordinator.
He is not a good head coach.

In an apparent effort to pump up a running game that was anemic on Sunday against the Jets, the Miami Dolphins have cut starting fullback Boomer Grigsby, according to David Neal of the Miami Herald.

Fullback Casey Cramer has been signed to take his place.

Grigsby is a former linebacker who converted to fullback last year in Kansas City. He beat out Reagan Mauia for the job.

Cramer has connections to Fins offensive coordinator Dan Henning; they were together previously in Carolina.

Maybe I'm just yanking the scab off of a really old wound and if you're not interested in reliving the frustration of offensive ineptitude of last year, feel free to jump to the next post.

My re-ignited rage stems from an excerpt from the following article-

Our KC QB's couldn't audible out of plays. At ALL. Ever.

Something that a 12 year old boy playing Madden on a PS3 can do by pressing the Square button... wasn't available as an option to our NFL quarterback.

Ugh.

It makes me sick and it makes me mad.

As a matter of fact, I've just moved beyond the "Taint-kicking" phase and have slid into the "Don't meet me in a dark alley" phase of my anger.

I hereby apologize for any and all thoughts, declarations, and postings I may have made towards LJ for his outbursts of frustration that I incorrectly labeled as "selfish".

He had every right to be pissed off.

Further, I congratulate him on having the self control to not charge up through the stands, climb into the press box, and beat Solari with his helmet.

Looking back, I'm sitting here thinking back to all the times that I screamed at my TV at the R2P2 scheme. It infuriates me even more to know that there could have been times when our QB saw a defensive weakness but was unable to exploit it- or even think about exploiting it- because they couldn't audible.

I think it's a good thing that Mike now lives in Seattle- over 1800 miles from me and the rest of the Chiefs fanbase.

Argh!

CHIEFS RELEASE SAFETY GREG WESLEY

League sources have told Pro Football Talk that the Kansas City Chiefs have released free safety Greg Wesley.

The 9th year safety, who has played his entire career to this point with the Chiefs, appeared in 15 games last season, started one and made 30 tackles. The Chiefs’ 3rd round pick in 2000 has 29 career interceptions.

Wesley, who is repped by Drew Rosenhaus, is expected to receive interest from a number of teams in the free agent market.

KU/UNC game kills Packer career???

In a delightful twist of fate, the KU Championship may have set the
table for CBS' removal of Billy Packer.

While most of us basketball fans had resigned ourselves to a few more
years of Billy Packer's inane ramblings, ACC bias, and his disdain for
the mid-major schools; CBS has remarkably sent ol' Billy out to
pasture with at least another year on his contract.

College basketball commentator Billy Packer, who has announced 34
consecutive Final Fours on network television and created a few
controversies along the way, will not be returning to CBS for a 28th
season, The Miami Herald has learned.

CBS has decided to replace Packer, 68, with studio analyst Clark
Kellogg on its lead announcing team.

An announcement is expected Monday, but CBS representative Leslie Anne
Wade confirmed the story Sunday night.

CBS believed the time was right for a change and that Kellogg deserved
a chance to work with Jim Nantz on the lead team.

Packer, who had been going year to year with his contract, confirmed
through a CBS official Sunday that he no longer will broadcast for the
network but is pursuing other projects in basketball. Packer declined
to comment further.

One has to wonder if the CBS execs were pushed over the edge by Packer
during the KU/UNC Final 4 game where Billy boldly declared the game
over and a blowout with 4 minutes left in the 1st Half- essentially
instructing the millions watching to tune into something else more
entertaining. I'm sure that went over well with the advertisers who
had ponied up big money for the prime 2nd half slots.

I for one will now watch the KU championship DVD again, with even
greater pleasure, knowing that Billy's called his very last game.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. March just got even better.
