Here's my wish list for 2009.

Reading the various posts regarding the changes that the Vikes needed I wanted to throw in my 2 cents. We may as well get over the fact that we are not going to get a change in coaching and for what it's worth I don't think we need to. Bevell is not the best "O" coordinator in the league and we know that, but a good quarterback can make an average coach look like a genius (see Mike Smith, John Harbaugh, Tony Sparano).

Jackson simply doesn't have the tools to play the position. I think he has some of the physical tools but I don't think the coaching staff has confidence in opening the playbook for him as evidenced by his interceptions on Sunday. There are obvious situations where Jackson needs to audible out of a play and doesn't. Most offensive coordinators give the quarterback 2 plays. One to call in the huddle and a second in the event he sees something in the defense (blitz, coverage, personnel) that he can audible to. This rarely if ever happens. Jackson may be a good quarterback eventually but can we wait 2 more years. Will Peterson and the rest of the defense wait that long before they want to leave. Had he played the entire year we would have been a 4-12 team with the best running back in the game and a top 10 defense. Unacceptable.

Here's an option that I want to throw out there. (not that it's going to happen but I wouldn't mind it)

Seattle is in the midst of a coaching change with many needs and not enough draft picks to cover all of those needs. We are quarterback away from being a legitimate contender (we have some minor needs but not as blaring as quarterback). Although the front office for Seattle and Minnesota are not the most cordial, this deal would make sense.

We trade our first (23rd) and a bundle a couple of other picks whether it's this year or next to Seattle for Hasselbeck. We assume his contract which isn't up until 2010 which helps Seattle's salary cap. Mora is going to want his own guy and is going to need rebuild through the draft. Seattle has a ton of need positions (LB, CB, OL, DL, RB) and will need the draft picks while lower their salary cap situation to pick up free agents in 2010.

Hasselbeck brings what we need most. A legitimate NFL quarterback with a good arm and a great running game to compliment his strongest asset which is to sell the play action and the ability to read defenses and he's familiar with the WC offense. We go into next season with Berrian, Rice, Allison, which is an upgrade from what he had in Seattle plus AP and Chester. Sign Birk, find an upgrade at RT through the draft. Move Tyrell Johnson into starting slot SS and M. Williams at FS. EJ Henderson is back from his injury with Leber and Greenway at LB.

Just my opinion. Probably wishful thinking but...........what do we really have to lose
