I love having a baseball player for a GM. Danny's hit a double (Zeller, Thornton, 1st rounder for TPE), single (drafting Smart + Young), and now just hit a sacrifice fly (Turner) to drive in a run. Danny has scored at least 1 run this offseason.

I don't think the roster is all so random as it's being made out to be.

I think Turner could benefit a lot from playing with Rondo.

I think it's an interesting debate about assists. What do they reflect?
Commented on The Financial Case for Keeping Rondo on Jul 19 2014, 2:23p - 1 reply
I thought you misunderstood his post because it was about how assists are plays that occur relatively FEW times in games, and you responded by extending his logic to points and rebounds, which, like you said, occur MANY times in games.

Commented on The Financial Case for Keeping Rondo on Jul 19 2014, 10:00a - 1 reply
...because assists occur only 1 in 4 possessions (apparently). Rondo's share of those assists is even less. So he's not necessarily belittling Rondo, but just saying that assists aren't super meaningful.
Commented on The Financial Case for Keeping Rondo on Jul 19 2014, 9:49a - 2 replies
The focus shouldn't be on salary NUMBERS, but on the PERCENTAGES. Rondo's salary in 2013-2014 was $11.95 million, out of a salary cap of $58.9 million = 20.4% of the salary cap
Commented on The Financial Case for Keeping Rondo on Jul 19 2014, 9:47a
You're missing his point. He's saying that the things which occur the most should be valued the most. Assists occur about 25% of offensive possessions (I don't actually know if that's true) so aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Commented on The Financial Case for Keeping Rondo on Jul 19 2014, 9:31a - 1 reply
I think his point is: Rondo doesn't fit on this team anymore, thus not worth investing in.

This is a very good point. While I like the OKC trade from both sides, Jackson and Adams have another couple years on rookie salaries and Rondo is likely getting AT LEAST what he makes now in his next contract.

I agree. It's much harder to find a center of Hibbert's caliber than a PG of Rondo's caliber.

Well... I don't know what to say. Indiana decided to pay the guy $15 mil per year for those stats. And the NBA selected him to the All Star team. And his team was first in the east. But stats don't lie - he sure sucks.

What is an NBA player's prime? People seem to be shifting it earlier and earlier. Athleticism peaks around 20, but endurance peaks around 30. I've always considered "prime" to be 28-32.

Mahinmi is probably a backup C - but he'd instantly become the best center on our team, and a reasonably good rim protector.

Commented on Rumor: Stein and Lowe talk Rondo to Pacers on Jul 3 2014, 11:06p - 2 replies
Hill and Mahinmi are good, young players who fit needs on the team. A 1st rounder from Indiana is likely to be in the 20s... but I don't think Indiana looks like a top team after their late season meltdown, and likely losing Stephenson.
Commented on Rumor: Stein and Lowe talk Rondo to Pacers on Jul 3 2014, 11:05p - 2 replies

Bradley overpaid by about $3 million per year for his CURRENT production. That's no so bad, considering the current NBA. Also, Avery could be worth $8 mil if he keeps improving.

fast breaks, backdoor cuts, offensive putbacks = the majority of Tony Allen's offense... and is exactly the kind of scoring situation where finishing near the hoop is important
Commented on Boston Celtics Agree to Terms with Free Agent Avery Bradley on Jul 2 2014, 1:06p
So far, they've been roughly equally durable is all I'm saying. Bradley looks nothing like Cal Ripken, even compared to Tony Allen.

Jordan Hill would be a coup at this point. That's all I'm letting myself hope for.

Exactly. BPA doesn't apply when you can't really separate the players. At #6 in this draft, it's all about fit. Why draft a second Sullinger or another poor shooting PG when a defensive stopper (Gordon) might be available?
