TWitM: strong pitching all over the org

89

Usually it's hitters who get featured in our weekly Minors rundown, but quite a few pitchers forced their way in this week, with strong starts by Christian Binford, Andy Ferguson, John Lamb and more.

TWiTM: Finnegan debuts, Lamb dominates

22

Lots of pitchers turned in great performances in the week that ended with Omaha and Northwest Arkansas in first place in their divisions. Top pick Brandon Finnegan's perfect debut was suspended by...

This Week in the Minors: streaks, promotions, more

19

Tons of hitters in the Royals system had great weeks. Glenn Sparkman dominated on the mound, and may be next in line for a promotion to NWA.

TWitM: Merrifield, Schwindel, Cuthbert hit a bunch

34

Whit Merrifield is still hitting like his hair is on fire. Frank Schwindel and Chelsor Cuthbert are too. Foster Griffin is off to a good start in his new pro career.

This week in the Minors: low levels and a new half

19

Idaho Falls and Burlington started play this week. Bubba Starling is off to a hot start to the 2nd half. Whit Merrifield and Brett Eibner had great weeks at the plate.

The Sveum Effect trickled down to Omaha

36

Omaha dominates; other levels struggle. Several pitchers had really nice outings.

This Weekend in the Minors: #freeMattFields?

29

On the mound, Christian Binford shined while the rehabbing Bruce Chen still had some kinks to work out. At the plate, Matt Fields mashed.

This weekend in the Minors: Moose and more

63

Moose's pair of three-hit games highlighted a weekend in which many of the organization's bats struggled.

"I'm responsible. It's all on me." -GMDM. Really?

43

Dayton Moore gave us a new line this time. Is he really accountable now?

Lexington struggles; everyone else earns a split or better on Memorial Day weekend.

How does Moustakas fit with the Storm Chasers?

47

Mike Moustakas is coming to Triple-A. Where does he fit with the guys who are already here?

I put my camera in the line of fire beer to take these, so please go enjoy!

Ryan LeFebvre on broadcasting

22

...I hope the new analyst has a good sense of humor because we do try to have a lot of fun with the broadcast. I hope it’s somebody whom enjoys coming to work everyday with the humble attitude that we are broadcasters and the reason people watch is because of the players. We have certain opinions and perspectives but we’re not smarter than anybody on the field. The viewers watch because they love the Royals and the game of baseball, not because of the announcers. I believe that’s something an announcer needs to come to grips with as soon as possible.

Not just a shameless plug for NWArk OF Tim Smith's hitting lessons

I was going to write a simple plug for Tim Smith's hitting lessons, but it turned into a nice little feature on him, including his story of the day he was traded to the Royals.

Reminder to bloggers - free photos for everyone!

7

I uploaded a boatload of Royals photos last night, including lots of new guys like Tim Collins and Jeremy Jeffress (and Frenchy and Melky, yay?). This is just a reminder that anyone is welcome to use them for blog posts or whatever, as long as proper attribution is given. This page has all the tags I've used, so you can search by player name.

Bannister, Ka'aihue family safe after quake.

8

The Royals PR/media guys tweeted these small bits of good news. Not a ton of other good news out there today. (The team Bannister pitches for now is in Tokyo, which was affected.)

Slightly OT: Who is the next Neyer (who was the next James)?

36

If Rob Neyer was this generation's Bill James, who will be the next Neyer?

Frency on blogs and leadership

Frenchy doesn't read blogs.... and other revelations.

A resource for all Royals fans and bloggers

Sharing is caring, and I care about the Royals' fans and blogging community. So basically I want to share every Royals photo I have, which I painstakingly tagged and organized for your use. Enjoy?

Nobody goes to AFL games. Why?

20

Keith Law was kind enough to help me dig in to the mystery of the empty seats at Arizona Fall League games. It's kind of a shame that so many great prospects are all in one place, but go mostly unnoticed by fans in the area. Informal poll question: Have you ever been to an AFL game? What was your experience like?

Farewell to Herges, Lerew and Rupe

9

Self-share, but only because I was afraid this little tale would get buried: "Rupe also gave me one of my moments of realization that baseball players are people with an exhausting schedule, and I should keep that in mind when I think/write/converse about them. One day, the team had just returned from a long road trip. Everyone looked awful before the game. Rupe said they had flown in from wherever at 3 that morning, and finally arrived in Omaha at around 2 in the afternoon, just in time to go straight to the ballpark. He smiled weakly at the cloudless sky and wondered if somehow, some way, someone could arrange a rainout so the guys could get some rest."

I’m like a nomad – I haven’t had an address for, like, 6 years. I still use my parents’ address, but I haven’t lived there for over five and a half years. So they continue to ship me my mail once a month for the last six years, even though I haven’t lived in Florida since then. It kind of gets a little depressing; I’d like a little place to call ‘home.’ But such is life, I guess.

Still looking for details on David Lough's injury from Wednesday night. The ORoyals site still lists it as an "undisclosed injury." What have y'all heard?

I'm going to be at the K on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I think my tickets will be in one of the sections that flank the Diamond Club seats, but I won't know until I get there. Anyway, anyone who's there...say hello?

On Meeting Dayton Moore

19

Another shameless self-share, in case you missed it on Twitter and whatnot. In short - I met GMDM. It didn't go well. I used words in a blog post to kick myself.

ORoyals of the Month: April

ORoyals players of the month, in various categories from 'Highest OBP' to....well, less legitimate categories. Any other categories you'd like to see me post a leaderboard in?

Shameless self-share, because I worked hard on this, dang it! Jordan Parraz, Chris Hayes, Marc Maddox, David Lough and Ed Lucas took a few minutes to tell about what life is *really* life in the Minor Leagues. As you can imagine, it's quite the....uhhh....glamorous life. (This was done for a school project.)

Kyle Farnsworth Fan Search

7

I'm having a contest...I want to find photographic evidence of a Kyle Farnsworth fan. Check out the link for the rules (there aren't very many), and have your cameras at the ready. (Sorry for the self-Fanshot, but...my stupid blog doesn't have comments, and there are comments here so I can address any questions or concerns.)
